RuneScape Information

  1. Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). Promised to be a 'new start' and it was abysmal. And oh god, the loading times...
  2. Mild punishment (slap on the legs, backside, confiscation etc) should still be allowed and parents should use them appropriately. When I was a child, this whole "slapping your children is a no-no" thing was just coming into the public interest, and guess what? My parents and even my grandparents didn't pay any attention to that if I misbehaved. Sure, I could have landed them in hot water if I said something to someone, but I didn't. Why? Because I understood that it was a punishment for me doing something wrong. I wasn't scared of my parents, but I knew it was a consequence to fear them if I had done something I shouldn't have. (Fear may be too strong a word, respect would maybe be better). All those people blaming culture are ignoring one thing: it's still up to the individual to decide their own actions. You can listen to rap music and still be a courteous person. Teachers in schools is a bit of a grey area, they obviously shouldn't be allowed to punish someone like parents can, but on the other hand they need more power to stop disruptive individuals.
  3. So let me get this right; Some people are sceptical of a vaccine that's been released because they deem it too soon? Lawl. Swine Flu may not be serious for everybody (remember, everyone reacts differently to EVERYTHING), but many older people, very young people and people with certain illnesses are at risk of DYING, or horribly bedridden for weeks. Approving a vaccine for human use takes a long time, too long really to risk waiting for it to finalise. I guess people would also complain if a vaccine hadn't come out yet, as well. Such is life.
  4. Depending on the NPC's that'll be a part of this D&D, this could be an oppurtunity to expand the roles or histories of that person e.g. in terms of the WOM for example, some people from his past have come forward to make claims that he isn't so 'good' as he makes out to be (we already know that, but it could add a little fun). Mind you, anything to make quest areas like these useful again can only be a good thing, I thought it strange they introduce some semblance of law into RS and then just leave it after the quest. I'm just curious as to what the rewards are... I'm guessing a vast amount of Law runes depending on how well you do?
  5. Anime, quite simply because I find the art style and 'jittery' voices in most of them annoying, as in, can't stand more than 5 minutes annoying. Also, the Playstation consoles. Do not like ANY of them, I don't really know why. Guess it's because my friends were always raving about it. WoW, honestly I watched a friend of mine play it and all I could think was 'dude, millions of people play this?' Can't think of any more right now.
  6. Has anyone here ever played Star Sonata? That sort of combat system would be quite nice in Mechscape (even though it probably won't be a top down view). Elements of skill present, but no-lifers don't have too much of an advantage over anyone else.
  7. In a general sense? Probably the fact no matter what you're interested in, or how much you practice/learn something there will ALWAYS be someone who does it better than you.
  8. Please tell me how PvP is such a big part of RS? Last I checked, there were under 15 worlds for PvP, out of 160 or so. Now yes there are many PvP games, but only those few allow drops. And most of the worlds are some of the less filled during the most populated times of the day. Often I find them when searching for the lowest populated worlds when trying to do Slayer or something. Why should PvP worlds be so special that they can have a rare drop such as the Dragon Full Helm giving a higher percentage of dropping than when slaying Mithril Dragons? Someone who goes and stands in a world with armour and a teleport should get that much better of a chance to get rich? I can say I haven't checked out the new "Bounty Hunter", but the old PvP worlds were filled with PJ'ers. They sat there, prayed melee, and used specials to try to steal kills. Addressing two articles of this week in one, prayer is fine if you're actually fighting and not being pathetic, and stealing kills period just shows immaturity. How is it fair that that one person can KO someone who was in a fight and making the other person eat where the attack setting, or however you want to state it, reset where they could get attacked by another person and killed? The person who was fighting them then could or couldn't get the drop, while the player who stole the kill could get the Dragon Full Helm for doing nothing but doing a cheap shop? Well, PvP IS a fairly large portion of the game... remember, before the RWT updates ALL worlds were PvP (remember the Wilderness? You know, the large area dominating most of the NE map). You're point about PvP worlds being less populated than other worlds during peak times, but the explanation for this is that PvP worlds aren't specifically for doing much else. Skillers/people who don't like PvP that much are not going to visit PvP worlds to do their normal training are they? Unless they're prepared, they'll spend more time dodging fights than anything else. I'm not bashing you, but I'm just trying to explain that PvP is and always has been a popular thing in RS. We both agree that those drops are too common compared to their NPC-hunting counterparts, but PvP worlds should be that special because there is a good risk when logging into those worlds. PJer's are a problem but really, there's not a lot at the minute in the way of stopping them.
  9. In regards to the article on PvP: Why 'shouldn't' the rarer items like Dragon Full and DFS be obtainable from PvP kills? The article strongly suggests that those drops (among others) should remain PvM, but that is a very one-sided opinion. Before, they were only obtainable (by they, I mean the Dragon Full specificly) from Mithril Dragons, and now they have 2 sources in the game. PvP is a big part of RS, whether some of us like it or not, so why should those who prefer killing players than NPCs be left out from gifts like these. Granted, from the sounds of things the drop-rate is more common than from Mith Dragons (I wouldn't know personally, I don't really PK, but looking at the price fall I'd guess they are) but really? Like someone else posted, they are far over-priced compared to their usefullness. Dragon is pretty much obsolete compared with the more powerful (and ironically cheaper) armours available, and it saddens me that poorer players aren't really able to use Dragon as the next appropriate step on there way to becoming better equipped, but that's a rant for another time. Oh, and the reason GWD were excluded? Erm, my guess would be because those drops are from BOSS monsters, which no matter however which way you put it, Mith Dragons are not. The article on KS: Despite the inconsistencies on meleeing Avianses (which I didn't realise until I read this thread  ), all I really wanted to say is that if you choose a good money-making tactic (especially one this popular) then you should really just suck it up when someone comes along, likely better equipped than you, and starts killing everything. If the article had concentrated on KSing in all forms (some cases where KSing actually makes little sense besides just generally annoying other players) then it may have made more of an argument but really, GWD is like a magnet to this sort of behaviour and tbh it is a case of 'if you can't beat them, join them'. The article on Prayer: There's nothing to say on this one. Nothing. Prayer is a skill (that was here from the get-go of RS I believe) and as such it should be expected that people will utilise their abilities. Prayer is by no means a cheap or fun skill to train, so why should someone who's possibly endured hours of this mind-numbing training then be expected to throw their rewards in the proverbial trash can. I honestly don't see why some people see this as nooby: if someone is losing a fight, of course they're going to use prayer if they haven't already as it may help them turn the battle. And if they utilise prayer before even entering the fight with you, then surely you can't complain since they'll run out faster than you do. If they pot it back up, yes that may be a pain but in the end you're costing them money and supplies, and that only lasts for so long. The Obama article: Pretty lulzy, but it dragged on a bit. The same thing repeating may be good, but repetition gets old. Maybe if the author had thrown in other 'things' that Obama did with his RS career could have been even better :D
  10. Massive BK fan here  Grunty's Final Battle (BK): Terrarium of Terror (Challenge Music): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAqGY-hugx4 Conker's Bad Fur Day: And for the lulz  :
  11. A geek was never, is not, and never will be a 'cool' thing. Being a geek is something that a people almost never choose to become: other's attitudes towards them pretty much decide the whole thing. Those few who do choose said-lifestyle, are in fact not geeks but nerds as many have established in this thread (mainly symbolised by the fact they don't really care about others perceptions of them).
  12. I'm not really sure what this would come under, but one of my big (and only, so far as I know) fears is encountering creatures in the water e.g. fish, squid, crabs etc. I'm not scared of these things when I see them on land, but if I was in a pool with these in I would freak out in 0-5 seconds. Same reason why I used to be afraid of seaweed, always thought it was some sea-beast rubbing against my foot
  13. Unholy ashes? Which do what? It wouldn't exactly make sense if they gave prayer exp... Why can't they just have the same function as any other bones? It's only ashes, and it doesn't HAVE to be like normal ash. Besides, realistically speaking you can still 'bury' ashes.
  14. Well, he's an Ourg, so yeh adding ourg bones as his drop makes sense. Although I agree that the other bosses should also drop their respective bones (and Kril could drop unholy ash, keeping in line with his demon-self).
  15. I guess I'm just different to Joe simply because although the idea of grinding for cash sounds nice in my head, I don't have the patience for it, and I'm simply not bothered. I've had this account for almost 2 years, 3/4's of which was spent as F2P and believe it or not, most of my skills were in the 50's (barring the member's ones, obviously) before I even became a member for the first time. I didn't get my first million until my second month of membership, and even then I haven't ever gone above 2 million in wealth. I only managed to successfully get that amount of coins in the first place because of my love for the Hunter skill (0-70 in 3-4 days, fastest succession of levels I've ever accomplished) and selling red chinchompa's in batches of 400. Sure, I could have saved them for my own range training, but since I never liked ranged I figured the money would be better invested in a whip. As for quests, they are the best part of RS for me since most of the time they are engaging and, most importantly of all, I've never had to invest more than 200k in any of them. When I completed Mourning's End 2, I was so annoyed and thankful that what I thought was the hardest thing I've ever done in RS is over and done with... no more. Then the day after, I felt a little bit of sadness, because once I looked back on what I had done I realised that it was one of the most intense puzzles (even outside of RS) I had ever done, and the whole thing seemed epic, in a way. I know in light of recent quests, ME2 has sort of lost it's status a bit, but in the end it's always been something I told myself I'd one day complete. Although people like Joe have valid points to make (they may not convey them well), I think they are taking the materialistic side of RS too seriously. Sometimes, you have to wast a lot of money before you find out what you enjoy doing. I'll never be a 'high levelled player', because I simply lack the patience. However, the difference between me and Joe is that in the end, I don't really feel like I'm missing out on anything.
