  1. An earlier poster already gave you a fairly good educated guess as to how many casts you should purchase in order to reach your desired level. Any further posts have simply been additional debate on other training methods already discussed.
  2. The willows will regrow 6 branches in 30 minutes. The papayas will respawn all fruit in about an hour. The same goes for all other fruit trees, including calquat.
  3. I didn't spot anything in the original post which asked for advice on how to profit from magic training. Most people train magic fully expecting to lose money. Nevertheless, I did indeed advise him against it, so I'm not sure what in my post you thought you were arguing against...
  4. Without doing the quest, there is no way to enter the stronghold period, let alone without a teleport. Doing the quest unlocks the ability to enter Trollheim. The teleport itself is a reward for a later quest, Eadgar's Ruse.
  5. Void mage prevents you from wearing chaos gauntlets, which entirely defeats the purpose of using bolt spells on anything. If you wear full void mage, you have to be rich enough to afford max magic bonus in every other slot. You'd be better off using mind or death rune spells if using void mage. Most people use charged claws of guthix autocasted by a void mace, if not ancient magicks when using void mage.
  6. I find it interesting that my main concern with this game hasn't been brought up in four pages of discussion. Anyone who suffers from occasional disconnections will soon discover that they spawn outside the waiting room if disconnected while in the minigame area, and suffer from "you just recently left a game of Soul Wars" AWOL status, as if they had left the game intentionally. This is not a mechanic that should have been programmed into a game with rounds of this length. Either it should be that players who disconnect within the minigame area respawn where they were in the minigame area (or in the appropriate spawn area if killed while lagging out), or people should be able to rejoin the same team unlimited number of times during the same round, with no time penalty for leaving. This way players who get left out due to disconnects can rejoin, if it's simply a matter of fact that programming limitations make it so that they cannot be respawned anywhere in a minigame area upon reconnecting, while also preventing team-switching bandwagon hoppers in the same way AWOL status obviously intends to. I am personally steamed that I have lost over 40 zeal to this ridiculous oversight, as I am a legitimate and highly strategic player of this game, who otherwise appreciates its mechanics. I have been disconnected sometimes as soon as a round begins, thus losing 20 minutes of fun I would have had playing on that server. Time to sit back and wait to be flamed for having a low speed internet connection (56mbps wireless).
  7. Even more interesting is that the Chaos Elemental spawns and guards a territory immediately adjacent to the ruins of the Unknown Ruins in the far northeast wilderness, the very location of the portal to the Spirit Realm where we initially discovered the highest prevalence of the dragonkin symbol. Upon its introduction into the game, this item was initially dropped by only one monster, the King Black Dragon. I'm not sure its origins could be made any more clear in light of this fact. 'Dragon' gloves are simply that color as a visual meme for how good they are in the relative hierarchy of the rewards for that quest. However, there is dragon involvement in Recipe for Disaster, specifically those black dragons who guard the Evil Chicken's lair accessed during one subquest. Also interesting, but not necessarily related, is that Sir Amik is the character saved by interacting with the dragons in this part. Undoubtedly, the Evil Chicken, being what it is, would unsurprisingly be in league with all other evil in runescape, including the dragonkin, who may very well have supplied the Evil Chicken with the very dragons who guard its lair, indicating a vested interest in whatever may lie within. This is self-explanatory. The god wars, dragonkin, dragons, and the rest are all intimately intertwined. Very unsurprising that dragon boots come to us from the god wars dungeon.
  8. I really hope that the new achievement diary sheds some light on these issues, but I fully expect to be disappointed in that regard.
  9. Lots of obstacles in the Balance Elemental fight room inside the Temple of Guthix. Can be used to lessen the damage you take when it switches to melee and can't hit you for a few moments before it realizes and switches back to a magic or ranged style. I believe Jagex patched in a hot fix that gave the Elemental the new "hurl boulder" attack which seems to hit infrequently (mostly 0s) but apparently through all protection prayers, and I believe it is this attack which inflicts reduced combat stats condition. I tried both poison and dragonfire agaisnt it, and neither hit (emerald bolt special activated, but no green splats ever occurred; same goes for the Tormented Demons), so I assume it is immune to both. I had to fight the Elemental 1.95 times, since Jagex was kind enough to upload a system update for the thanksgiving mini-event with no warning this morning (11/27/2008) when my first Elemental was about to die (System update in 0:00 for the loss). Really made me wish I'd stuck with it the night before and just finished it. I used the same gear and inventory setup both times, with the exception of the spirit jelly I summoned the first time (to epic failure) being replaced by the abyssal parasite, which performed admirably for its level, hitting for detectable damage almost half the time. The second kill was almost twice as fast, with the parasite hitting admirably often, while the jelly never landed anything above a 0. I used no scrolls. Both times I started with a dragonfire shield special attack, which yielded a 0. A matching 0 against the first Tortured Demon. I didn't even bother to bring emerald bolts for the second kill, after seeing no poison damage during the first kill. Here is my equipment: Helm of Neitiznot Glory Amulet Ava's Accumulator 100 Diamond bolts (e) Proselyte Chest Proselyte Legs Dragonfire Shield (18/50) Gloves (Recipe for Disaster, highest level) Splitbark Boots Ring of Recoil Inventory: Rune Crossbow \___one of these two equipped - I used crossbow when I thought poison/dragonfire might work; now I recommend halberd to use special bar immediately Dragon Halberd/ 3 spaces - Runes for all Blood spells (single target: Blood, Death, Chaos) Water/Mud Staff is optional if you want to save runes and try some Ice spells; alternatively, water runes 1 space for your best familiar's pouch (hopefully an aggressive, high combat-leveled beast of burden) Unholy Book is optional if you'd rather have a prayer/attack bonus than the shield's defense bonuses Split the rest of your inventory/BoB's inventory between Super Restore and Saradomin Brew potions Prayers: Rapid Heal - all times Rapid Restore - all times Protect Items - all times Steel Skin - when not attacking with melee style Piety - when using halberd/halberd special attacks Eagle Eye - when attacking with ranged style Mystic Might - when squeezing off a quick spell Protect Prayers - at your discretion (from Summoning has no effect on anything in this or the ensuing battle with Tormented Demons, though they are clearly summoned) I start out the fight with two dragon halberd specials, then switch to rune crossbow to fire my already equipped diamond (e) bolts. I occasionally mix in a manual cast of the highest level single target blood spell I can cast at my current magic level, usually after one of my sips of super restore, if I'm also missing a bit of health bar. Switch prayers according to whatever weapon the Elemental whips out. Giant bow obviously attacks with ranged, giant club is obviously melee, no visible weapon indicates a spell is about to be cast, and at any time, if the Elemental can't reach you, it may randomly mix in a non-classed "boulder throw" attack, which has a chance to hit regardless of your protection status (though it did still hit many 0s and otherwise low damage against me), and lowers your combat stats greatly, regardless of how much damage it does. Don't be surprised to be casting a very low level spell when you need to switch to magic for healing or whatever other purposes. Remember to use your last (or last 2, if another special has generated before re-wielding) halberd special next time you switch back to melee. My Abyssal Parasite did a surprisingly good job of damaging the Elemental, so I'm sure actual familiars are quite successful here. Diamond (e) bolt specials activated with surprising frequency, but often with hilariously low damage output when activated. I didn't use a beast of burden, and still had 4 of each potion left (4) when I finished. The ensuing battle with boosted stats against the Tormented Demons doesn't require any potions. These strategies worked for me, but obviously your plan needn't be this complex if you have maxed combat stats or are willing to risk more expensive items. For reference, my extremely odd stats: Attack - 65 Strength - 73 Defense - 75 Hitpoints - 98/82 Ranged - 78 Prayer - 101/92 Magic - 91 Agility - 74 Summoning - 56 Combat - 102 All this said, I hope this telling of my experiences during this quest battle will be of some use to lower leveled players who may be less combat-oriented than others in their questing approach. If not, then too bad, since I already posted it! Finally, my new Quest Point Cape outfit:
  10. Found one: This is the depiction of the stone of Jas from Meeting History, and should be great for the first page to show side by side how the symbols found in the Unknown Ruins of the wilderness incorporate one half of the dragonkin symbol and one half of the stone of Jas symbol. Sorry I didn't have time to host the full image myself, so hopefully you can work from the thumbnail/link and host it yourself.
  11. Yes, the right half of the symbols which adorn most of the area I've been told is officially dubbed "the Unknown Ruins" (far northeast portion of the wilderness) is the right half of the same symbol which patterns the floor of the castle walkway in the dragonkin cutscene. As I posted earlier, the left half of each of those symbols is the iconic depiction of the left half of the stone of Jas, as revealed in cutcenes during Meeting History. I know that screenshots of these cutscenes exist, and I continue to search for someone hosting one of them. Any help is appreciated. As I've stressed in my posts throughout this discussion, my main concern in this topic remains the ties between Guthix and the dragonkin. These symbols being intertwined in such a way is clear foreshadowing.
  12. Helm of Neitiznot? Also gives a higher prayer bonus.
  13. On a side note, I hope no one from Jagex comes across this thread and thinks, "gosh, that's way better than what our development team is working on for the grandmaster quest storyline. If only we'd thought of something epic like this in time to include it."
  14. The symbols are actually iconizations of the 'Stone of Jas' graphic initially introduced in a cutscene in the Meeting History quest, wherein the origins of magic and Guthix's far-reaching influence are revealed. This may or may not have already been pointed out in this topic. More: I've seen screenshots of this cutscene posted elsewhere... anyone have a link to proof?
  15. If not literally godly, then certainly it appears they intend to convey that sort of power. To compete with Guthix for the role of "force of balance" seems a very bold maneuver. Let's expect to be surprised.
