RuneScape Information

  1. That quote from Jr probably explains why skill capes are not F2P. It is a business decision and has nothing to do with F2P not deserving them from an effort point of view, they don't deserve them from a financial point of view. In a hypothetical world were F2P did have skill capes, how many do you think will say "I don't want to be a member cos I already have what I would have become a member for"? I'd say less than 1,000 but to make it easier lets say exactly 1,000 people don't become a member cos they have the cape, thats only £3,500 there missing out on ... they won't even notice that.
  2. Bronze key red - A bronze key with a blood-red painted eyelet, (shades of mort'ton) EDIT, I've always wanted credit on tip.it ... don't ask me why. [Crew edit: Hehehe. You HAVE been credited here :D]
  3. I would disagree with this, it doesn't matter if they lose f2p players, no business wants to 'stagnate' which is what will happen if they don't bring new players in. Long term f2p will be used to the adverts, will probably ignore them, have already decided to not become members, therefore are no use to Jagex at all....other than some ability to bring in new players. Membership brings in longer term and more reliable revenue, that is why Jagex should keep all major benefits, updates and skill capes for members. After all, what other game offers free on line gaming with quests etc to the extent Jagex already does, and with no time limit? (And this has been mentioned before). :shame: The ads are already paid for, so if no body played f2p for a year JAGEX would still get paid, they could be pay per click but that would mean less money for JAGEX which is why I assume they wouldn't use that method. Skill cape isn't a major benefit, it's an obby cape with tensel on, it's crap and all the time and effort that goes into getting a 99 (which takes atleast twice aslong as in members) should earn them a cape with relatively good stats (relative to other f2p capes) it shouldn't be "congrats you got 99 ....... well you havn't paid (real money) for your cape so you can't have it".
  4. I wonder which foot he chose to shoot? The police can pull you over for thinking you have illegal substances :?
  5. You're right. If we weren't covering all expenses F2P has, they would find a way to increase revenues from F2P. Well, I would if it was my game, anyway. They are doing thats how there making a 7% profit, if they were just covering costs it would be 0% profit and if it was losing money it would be -7% (for example) so it is making some money, thats why it kind of annoys me when members say that they dont contribute towards JAGEX, they do, it's just not out of there own pocket.
  6. Actually, Jaffy1 is right. They would most likely have staff dedicated just to F2P. But they also make far more than 280k off of ads in a year if its 7% of total profits. Like I said before my math sucks but either way there still making profit on f2p so even if they had an entire army of people working on f2p it wouldn't matter, it is still making enough money to cover the cost of running it and a little bit extra on top.

  8. Running servers is one thing. F2p also requires J-mods, development, monitoring, maintenence, etc.. I don't know how much that costs, neither do you. I have played rs for about 5 years and I have NEVER seen a J-mod, member world or not so that wont cost anything. Development, it gets developed with members most of the time and when it doesn't it is just old members stuff going to f2p so it wont cost anything. Isn't monitoring the same as J-mod, so again costs nothing. Maintenence is the only cost but there is obviously enough to cover it cos I put the pie chart up which showed that they profit from f2p, if only by 7%, so they must be able to run it and still get a profit. No matter what needs to be done to f2p it still makes a profit, so I know for a fact it costs less than 280k to run and do everything else with f2p. It makes me wonder if you know what profit is? :?

  10. I can say the same thing about you. You say it gets Jagex profit, but you don't know that any more than he knows the costs of F2p. :shame: That strikes me as a little hypocritical right there.. #-o If 280k can't run a few f2p servers for a year then paint me a hypocrite.

  12. Actually f2p generates more than 280K a year in adverts so they do support the game just not out of there own pocket and JAGEX has said f2p are getting something for getting a 99 just not a skillcape. There is graph somewere showing that f2p generated 7% of income for JAGEX which means that if JAGEX earns £4 million a year then 7% is about 280k, I think. (maths was never my strong point :( ) http://www.mechscapeworld.com/images/re ... ncome2.jpg While it's true that the ads do generate revenue, it barely pays for the cost of f2p, so f2p is pretty self-sufficient. They aren't really increasing Jagex's net income, but they're not really decreasing it either. How do you know what f2p costs? I assume you don't and your just guessing which makes you look like a fool. You also contradicted yourself you said it barely pays for it then said they arn't really increasing (even though you just said they were) then you say they arn't really decreasing it, but you just said they were increasing it. Basically you just, there increasing and deacreasing JAGEX's profit ....
