  1. :( last active November 25th?

This saddens me. RETURN MY FRUITY HAT'ED FRIEND!

  2. Apparently the Sahara desert is growing. Less land for Africans = less Africans able to live there. Not to mention that the rising temperatures will increase the length of droughts and decrease food production on a continent where starvation is already a huge problem... So, are we going to give medicine and food to Africans today, helping them live and reproduce, so that their children can suffer through the same poverty, disease and starvation that we tried to save their parents from? Really, the ones we helped are likely to live long enough to have MORE children to suffer... Oh, and of course there's the issue of warlords confiscating supplies which were meant for the general population, only making their regimes stronger. Maybe we should stay out of Africa and let the Africans handle it? I don't think they'd mind if we managed to make the world a few degrees cooler if it meant stopping the growth of the Sahara and more seasonal temperatures for growing crops. Oh, and anyone who thinks that global warming = more cropland farther towards the poles- ecosystem growth doesn't work that way. It's a very slow process to naturally develop soils into sustainable fertile land. Also- no-one argue with Saruman, he's an expert (he got a 98)
  3. I don't support uncessary cruelty, but I don't support avoiding harvesting (while avoiding overexploitation) of renewable natural resources. I do believe that species should be protected- but for their role in the ecosystem, and not for how cute they look. There's too many seals- if we can club a few to make the environment better, I certainly don't mind.
  4. Just because it's impossible for humans to grasp the full power of their subconscience doesn't mean we should drop all efforts to reform society today. After all, all prejudice is caused because of current social standards (most movies depict a white male/female as the main character, always doing good, but when we turn our eyes to prisons or gang-infested areas, the majority are all minorities), and attempting to fix that now could potentially end almost all forms of discrimination it the near future. And yes, it was just an example. I don't discriminate against any group at all, except stupid people. I refute the claim that showing the main characters in movies being non-white has any chance of ending "all forms of discrimination in the near future". It certainly wouldn't hurt if we had a few more muslims in positions on T.V. showing them as something other than a terrorist, but I don't have any illusions that it would change very much. All people discriminate- we see apple juice and orange juice, and pick the orange juice we were familiar with growing up, ect. It simply makes sense for animals to try to favour those most similar to themselves above the rest- you've got a better chance of furthering your own genes that way. However, humans are social creatures with ideas such as "fairness" and "equality" which don't necessarily fit with that. I do not argue that it would be a much, much better world if we could live without discrimination, and I feel we would be doing a disservice to the world by not attempting to change the status quo (without going overboard, mind you). I love how when white people start talking about racism, they all pull out that one black friend that they have. Hell, I've got one too, and I consider myself pretty racist. This is a genuine question -- What are you trying to prove? Hate is natural as well, even God has it. But does that mean it is acceptable in your society? And just so you know, all the racists I know use that excuse that discrimination is natural. You are correct in that it is natural when it comes to some things. But when it comes to human relationships, the mind is a blank tablet that is formed from the prejudices of its predecessors. White people do not automatically hate black people, that's a lie, and a bad one while you're at it. Blah blah blah God. Please quote exactly where I said white people automatically hate black people kthnx. However, white people do tend to automatically be prejudiced towards their own parents- coincidentally white people, most of the time. The same goes towards others. I wouldn't stretch "prejudice" so far as "hatred" however. If you choose to see the two as one in the same, that's your failing and not mine.
  5. The scientist- the rational thinker- questions his beliefs. It doesn't matter so much where the questioning leads the rational thinker, so much as it does that it is this questioning that leands them there. I know a number of physisicts who believe in a God of some sort (strangly doesn't happen as much with biologists and chemists). I am athiest. I am open to the possiblity that there may be a diety or religion out there which I could accept, but havn't found one yet. I would also accept belief in pink unicorns if evidence were provided that they are real- but I don't call myself agnostic in either case. A lot of religious people are pleasant enough, and don't pose much of a problem- I wouldn't want to convince them to change their mindset because they seem quite happy with it. The ones who I don't see as friendly are those who feel is it their duty to convert me, or pick a single phrase out of an entire book as their mission in this world ("I need to stop gay marriage because God says something that includes both men AND women blah blah blah"). One quote I've seen in another forum... "I contend that we are both athiests, and that I simply believe in one less God than you do. If you were to look at the reasoning for not believing in all the other Gods, you would understand why I don't believe in yours."

    Today...

My friend came down from Sudbury. We're gonna go to the local pub and grab a few beers. Tomorrow, I might be going to my old highschool to help make new labs for the chemistry teacher. Or not, I'm not sure yet- apparently it's a PA day.

  8. A lot of people view "coming out" as something neccessary, that it's an eventuality that you MUST let everyone know; that you wouldn't ever be happy if you didn't. I challenge that idea. If you're happier knowing who you are and not coming out, I say more power to you. No-one can decide for you when the right time is- or who you should come out to- except for yourself.
  9. Saw mlb, he was not impressed. Said he's going to kill himself now. I'd feel bad, but I guess it's just his time.

  15. Actually I accidentally hit one of those quicklink things trying to come back to this tab. I hate that, wish they didn't have that. Was trying to find your profile the whole time. And almost started singing along with you, but you beat me to the last line.
