#5319898 200M in all Skills

Posted by Sylpheed on 21 October 2012 - 12:51 PM

people comparing donating a few golden coins on a game to donating real money to the fight for cancer wow.

First of all, this.

Second, in my opinion, if you donate to charity for ANY reason, (whether that be for emotional or physical investment) other than to genuinely want to help people, you are doing it for the wrong reasons.

I can't help but think all the people that are complaining about donating to what is now a lost cause are doing so because they can no longer claim they helped Suomi to 200m all.

I don't care to name names but people in this thread have specifically stated their donation was an investment. By very nature of the word investment, you expected something in return which IS selfish.

#5319066 Hallowe'en Treat: Scary Bonus XP Weekend!

Posted by Sylpheed on 19 October 2012 - 01:08 AM

After reading the posts about Summoning I feel like I just read the same argument and counter argument about 20 times over.

I have no issue with the x1.1 limit being lifted, (I would take full advantage of it myself if I wasn't already 99) I do, however, have an issue with Jagex taking another U-turn on their stance of the skill in relation to bexp weekends.

I'm pretty sure they said themselves when they first changed it that Summoning was so different in the way that you gained exp that it would be unbalanced to give it a 2x boost.

I swear they backtrack and U-turn on previous policies more than politicians.

Self control would be the key term to use in this thread. I don't understand why certain individuals are getting angry at Jagex for doing this.

Nobody is forcing anyone to play for 48 straight hours. If anything, it promotes less intensive playing than the old formula. In previous bexp weekends I felt like I had to play 10 hours to get the multiplier down to x1.1.

If this one is double exp for an entire two days it means people will reach their goals faster, hence having to play less.

#5316028 Why Do People Judge RS So Much Differently Than Other Video Games?

Posted by Sylpheed on 10 October 2012 - 10:14 AM

Pretty much what Deletion said.

In the world of videogames, certain genres of games, just like films, are considered by both the public and general media (in the UK at least) to be more nerdy than others.

Also, because Runescape is really, really old for an MMO people assume it is the exact same game as they left it and don't realise the changes that have occurred.

He looks awesome. Shame every single world is going to get bum rushed by people trying to kill him on release.

I was kind of hoping they were going to make him more difficult to fight considering he isn't and hasn't really been considered a boss monster for a long time.

It's a boss monster designed for combat 80 players. Stay away from it with your maxed stats.

#5311684 Legitimate Reasons to Raise All Skill Caps to 120+

Posted by Sylpheed on 28 September 2012 - 10:33 AM

The only time Jagex should even consider for a second raising other skill caps to 120 is when they all have content up to and including level 99. Even then, they shouldn't raise it for the sake of it being 120.

#5309686 Future Update Discussions

I'd say it looks like assassins creed but I have never played that game, or seen it played so I can't really judge

That's horrible. :L

This also makes me sad.

#5303008 05 Sept 2012 - GWD Remastered

Posted by Sylpheed on 05 September 2012 - 05:22 PM

I don't know which mod did this. I don't know why they did it. If they're looking for money, I can tell them I don't have any as I'm a student. But what I do have are a very particular set of skills; skills I have acquired over 4 years of RuneScape. Skills that I have worked hard for and people like them can't take them away. If they give me my particles back now, that'll be the end of it. I will not look for them, I will not pursue them. But if they don't, I will look for them, I will find them, and they won't like what'll happen.

Is it just me or does the updated version look a lot like a frozen floor from Dungeoneering?

#5300331 Mod MMG on RuneScape Micro-Payments

Posted by Sylpheed on 30 August 2012 - 01:37 AM

There are so many people on this forum that just want to hate Jagex regardless of what happens.

I swear even if they were to remove the SoF and SGS tomorrow people would still be throwing nonsensical and presumptuous bullshit all over the place.

That goes both ways you know...

Sure it does, the people that blindly defend any and everything that is perceived to be bad by the mass majority are just as ignorant and misinformed as the people that relentlessly spew hatred.

The trick is to keep level headed and open minded. Sadly, a lot of people only hear what they want to hear.

Oh, and I guess a lot of you haven't tried MapleStory. It has an anti-cheating program that runs in the background of your computer when you start the gameclient up. It's called "GameGuard". I'm certain that's how they are stopping the bots. IVP just shipped the GameGuard code to IVPex and they made a version of it for Runescape.

I am actually pretty familiar with Gameguard, not from MapleStory (it's not the only game that uses it) but from other MMO's I have played.

It's also notoriously bad at preventing cheaters and is despised by a large population of players that are forced to use it for certain software. If Jagex actually do use Gameguard I can't see it being particularly useful in the long run.

-------------------------

I'm not going to claim I know a lot about business economics or structure because I don't but it seems pretty clear to me the reason why the SoF and SGS exist. Runescape isn't the crappy F2P game built and coded in a university dorm anymore; it's a commercial business.

Marketing, extra employees, new tech and R&D all cost money. If membership fees arent adequate income then they need new ways to increase revenue.

I honestly believe that if the SoF and SGS didn't exist then Runescape would be in an even bigger decline than it is now.

Anyway, this thread has pretty much extracted all the discussion value it's going to get at this point, all that's really left is people voicing the same discontent as usual.

I'd really like someone to point out the lies that are apparently so prevalent in MMG's post by the way, that would be really helpful.

#5295299 Squeal of Fortune "Updates" was: Spin Results (970 spins)

Posted by Sylpheed on 15 August 2012 - 12:14 PM

Your "study" is only valid until the next time Jagex changes the squeal, probably next week. By all means buy spins if you want to gain xp, coins or cosmetics but let's not pretend it's research. We'd get much better data if just a few hundred people on tipit recorded their results (from the 2 or 3 spins) into a database daily than any single person buying hundreds of them.

Yet, nobody is doing that are they? I honestly don't care what his reasons are for buying spins, if he's providing data that's informative for other players then does it really matter?

#5289133 Pendants of Skill! - 26/7/2012

Posted by Sylpheed on 31 July 2012 - 12:34 AM

I think it's perfectly reasonable to be mad at Jagex and their investors for making this an option, but I don't understand how people can be so mad at other people for being human.

Everyone please read this and really take the time to understand it. Read it twice if you have too because it's probably the most important thing said in this thread.

Also, lol at the analogies in this thread.
