  1. Well, my moms blew up so we bought a new power supply over 450 watts for myself and I can give my old one to my mom, but then why does it still show the message? I guess I'll look that up. It says that the GeForce 7900 needs 450 watts and my old one had 300 watts, so i figured i would need a new one :? . I fixed the hgraphics card problem, 2 down, 1 to go, stil lcan't figure out about the hard drive.
  2. Okay well, I don't know what is wrong with my computer so I'll probably take it to the shop because it's real messed up. There are 2 partitions when I use XP as a boot disc. 1 partition with 131 gigs and another with 8 megabytes. I CANT find out what type of Presario it is because it doesn't say anywhere and I checked my brothers computer which is the exact one I checked in the properties of my computer and it didn't say anything, their website is crap and doesn't help. It doesn't recognize ANY sound card, I cant even find a driver for Sound Blaster Audigy PCI 7.1 because their website is bad too, and when I downloaded one it said there was no sound card. I took it out to use my on-board sound and it doesn't work either. When I play Oblivion sometimes it locks up and when I go on msn and start a new conversation it freezes for a while, and when I alt tab out of Oblivion and back in it locks up adn gets a blue screen. I don't know how to fix this so I'll probably just take it into the shop. On the compaq website it says you can download drivers so maybe that will help? BUt i cant seem to find out how to tell which type of Presario I have because there are a ton on the site.
  3. It is NTFS. And yes, I THINK I had cd's that came with the computer. I should have because I have a Compaq and it was a Presario when I first got the computer, there were 2 drives labeled Presario and it came with a bunch of programs, now it's just a regular computer, but it doesn't seem to work now. It locks up and it does not recognize my sound card at all.
  4. I have a 200 gigabyte hard drive, and when I install Windows and all that usually I should have around 187 gigabytes free. But when I reformatted my computer, my partition only had 139 gigabytes, and when I finished reformatting and installing XP i have 125 gigabytes in my hard drive? Also, I'm pretty sure I have only one partition, I had around 185 gigabytes of hard drive space on drive C before, and around 6 gigabytes on D:\ but it was for system files only, now I don't even have that extra 6 gigabyte drive :? . I have reformatted 3 times now.
  5. uhh im still ocnfused. Also, I have a drive D:\ already with system files that came with the computer, would I still be able to have a 2nd hard drive? Also, how do I exactly hook it up? Once I plug it in, do I go into boot menu and do something to like, install it?
  6. Oh, yah the person who i got it from gave me the cable that comes with it. Would you by any chance be able to give me a guide on how to do this?
  7. Crap, um I think my 200 gb is ATA and the other one is for sure a IDE. So that means it wont work?
  8. I have a 200 gig hard drive and I need to keep a lot of files before I reformat, about 30 gigs of files. I have an old hard drive with about 20 gigs of room left and i was wondering if I could add that hard drive as a 2nd drive, then transfer files on it and reformat my C:\ drive, how would I go about doing that? I am on XP and the hard drive i am using is a Barracuda 7200.7 and the one i want to add is a Western Digital Wd4000 40 gigabyte hard drive. Sorry if I am missing information I don't knwo what toher info to give. Thanks
  9. Next up, Google Showers! See into one of many showers in the U.S!
  10. i dont know how the gts got on my list before as its $250 minimum without taxes and shipping costs, so those 3 i stated before are the best ones i can get, so out of those ones the XFX is the best one performance wise? its $10 cheaper than the EVGA but $10 more expensive then the gigabyte geforce, price is not a factor here because I can afford any of the 3. So my final pick is the XFX then? Edit: it seems people on the Ncix boards say that the 8600's are a joke and are not good, and that 7900's are way better. I looked up one and found a 7900 for $196 BFG GeForce 7900 GS OC / 256MB GDDR3 / SLI / PCI Express / Dual DVI / HDTV / Video Card i dont care about not being compatible for Dx10. Sorry for being a hassle :wall:
  11. ugh, one final question. I foudn that the site ncix.com delivers to Canada is cheaper so I found more 8600 cards. This is the original one I'm getting at Tigerdirect: P56-8600 :: PNY GeForce 8600 GT / 256MB DDR3 / SLI Ready / PCI Express / DL Dual DVI / HDTV / Video Card (1.65 lbs) these ones are the ones I found at ncix.com for cheaper when I searched "8600." Gigabyte GeForce 8600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDTV Out DIRECTX10 Passive Video Card EVGA E-GEFORCE 8600GT 540MHZ 256MB 1.4GHZ GDDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDTV Out DIRECTX10 Video Card (256-P2-N751-TR) (23715) XFX GeForce 8600GT XXX 620MHZ 256MB 1.6GHZ DDR3 PCI-E Dual DVI-I HDTV Out DIRECTX10 Video Card (PVT84JUDD3) (23701) I have no idea which one is the better deal, one again, thank you for helping :)
  12. Okay so just finalizing this, I want better performance and I do not plan on getting Dx10 or vista, so out of these 3 which is the best choice? EVGA GeForce 7800 GS CO / 256MB GDDR3 / AGP 8x / DVI / VGA / TV Out / Video Card EVGA GeForce 7900 GS KO / 256MB GDDR3 / SLI / PCI Express / Dual DVI / HDTV / Video Card EVGA GeForce 8600 GTS Superclocked / 256MB GDDR3 / SLI Ready / PCI Express / Dual DVI / HDTV / Video Card thanks again
  13. Sorry, I edited my post, I have a PCI-e slot, I also added the link to the card I was talking about, and Blade, I meant $244.84 with tax, with shipping and handling fees also. Without all that it's $199.
  14. I have a PCI-e slot. Anyways, no I'm most likely not getting Vista anytime soon, but how do we know that DirectX 10 will not be compatible with other operating systems in the near future? And judging by your posts, probably the best choice for me would be the GeForce 8600 GT 256MB? Altogether with tax and shipping and handling it's $244.84. So this card is good and it is compatible with Dx10 if it is available for other OSs or if I get Vista. I'm still looking for input though, thanks for posting :D http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3048563&CatId=1560 ^That's the $200 card I was talking about.
