Imcando Channeling Rod?

31 July 2015 - 10:24 AM

I just got this Super Rare Item from Treasure Hunter on June 31, but I have no clue what it does.  Is it a magic combat weapon (it's wieldable and increases Accuracy...) or does it do something else?  I've looked around and the only information I can find about it is when it was put into the game and it was some kind of promo item that shouldn't even be available anymore, as the promo supposedly ended in May.

So what's the deal?  Does it actually do anything or is it just a Dwarven-styled Wand/Staff for combat magic?

So much for "short"cuts...

Got a Daily challenge to plant an herb seed; didn't feel like messing with the main herb patches since they all had stuff growing already so I 'ported to Trollweiss to use My Arm's patch. I arrived at the exact same time as another person who was apparently heading the same direction, but we both decided to take different routes. I followed the windy path down where he took the Agility shortcuts; I expected him to get to the ladder leading into the mountain way before me since he was using the shortcuts.
He didn't.
In fact, despite my wearing much heavier equipment than him, I actually got to the ladder first. Once inside, he easily outpaced me, but when he took the "shortcuts", I was able to run right past him while he was still stuck halfway through the climbing animations.
So I guess the lesson here is, use the shortcuts if you want the EXP, but if you're looking to save time, just go the "long" way since it's apparently faster.*

*Okay, the real lesson here is Jagex needs to scale back many of the animations or time them faster. Between that and the "lean" and "stand" animations in Tears of Guthix minigame still being too long (not to mention the many other time-intensive animations that could be made faster, shorter, etc), we're wasting a lot of game time waiting for animations that shouldn't be wasted.

Desert Treasure pyramid traps

06 December 2012 - 11:02 AM

I need someone (or several someones) to confirm this, but I think I may have found a way to prevent accidentally triggering traps in the pyramid run portion toward the end of Desert Treasure. The first few times I tried it, I was fully kitted with armor from the boss fights and because I didn't know what kinds of dangers to expect inside the pyramid, but I kept triggering traps, sometimes on the top floor.
I'm not sure why I thought to do it, but I banked everything I was carrying except for some Energy Pots and Super Antipoisons, put on my Enchanted Water Tiara and Boots of Lightness and tried the run again. This time, I didn't trigger a single trap and the only things that stopped me were the occasional Scarab or Mummy randomly coming out of a crypt.
I'm thinking the traps that drop you outside may be triggered by the total weight you're carrying, but since I've only tried the low-weight method once, it would be helpful if others could try to replicate my results by running the pyramid with heavy and low weights, preferably people who are doing the quest.
If weight has nothing to do with it and my experience was a fluke, then so be it, but if it's replicable, people doing this quest would benefit from that info.

Tears of Guthix minigame

22 October 2012 - 04:36 AM

Ugh, I HATE how the streams randomly change without warning! Last time I did the game, I spent a third of the time just chasing streams because they kept changing literally every second. Worse still, by the time my character got to the stream and put the bowl under it, it had already switched to green, so not only was I wasting time chasing the blue streams, I was losing tears in my bowl. It doesn't help that the animations are so freaking slow, either...
In order to make it less irritating, what they could do is this:
- Speed up the character animations. Seriously, it doesn't need to take that long.
- Make the streams change less often. Put a minimum time they have to stay in a certain position before changing again, say three to five seconds; not long enough to be abused, but long enough that it feels like the player accomplished something.
- Give us a warning that the stream is running out. Make the streams flash or fade or something to let us know that it's probably a good idea to find another stream to collect from soon. The warning wouldn't need to be more than a second long, whatever form it would take. If nothing else, a warning would help offset the time it takes for the standing animation to run.

The minigame is supposed to be a reward for doing the quest, but as it stands, it feels less like a reward and more like voluntary torture. It would feel more rewarding if it were less frustrating to do.

Google forces Youtube accounts to be linked to Email

23 February 2011 - 07:11 AM

I just tried to pop into my Youtube account real fast to see if any of my subscriptions had updated, only to get a screen informing me that I can no longer use YouTube without linking it to my Google account "for security reasons".
Well, seems like a heavy-handed and desperate attempt to get new Google accounts, but fine, what's one more free account I need to keep track of? I figured I'd just use one of my stock throw-away username/password combos that I have for free accounts I don't plan to use and...
Wait, why do I have to verify my password through my phone? The hell? Why can't I use my Yahoo account? Are you serious? 1) I'm not giving Google my phone number; they're the spam-ad Goliaths of the modern age and I honestly don't trust them to not ad-blast my phone, 2) I pay for my texts and I'm not wasting my money to verify my account when I can do it for FREE through email, 3) I don't post my phone number anywhere online unless I absolutely have to, such as for online job applications or trusted sites like Amazon.
I think it's just dumb to force people to verify their account through their phone. I know a lot of people who have to either pay for their texts, don't know how to text or don't get texts at all on their phones. Where does this leave them if they want to watch YouTube? And why not give the option of verifying through email?
I guess I'll just go to DailyMotion until I get a reply from Google about whether or not I can verify through my Yahoo. That is, unless DM got bought out by someone like Ask.com or AOL and I have to create accounts with them too...
