  1. Got bored and went to mine in the crafters guild... 3 autos in there, hitting the gold. I had a damn hard time getting some, and only did so because my level is higher. Almost every server had at least 1 there. This is my first month back after a long break, and I'm really beginning to doubt paying for this game again. The cheating is rampant...
  2. I've noticed over the years that the definition of noob has changed a lot. It used to be an insult primarily intended for immature people (or those who made absolutely atrocious suggestions/trades) Now you can be a noob for anything. Earlier today for example, I was heading over to do some Pest Control and my combat isn't very high (69, the exact reason I was doing PC) and some guy got on the lander and immediately called me a noob. He was no more than 93 (memory is hazy) Fun fact: I've been playing this game on and off since 2001. There were only 2 servers when I started. My levels don't show it, but the knowledge is there. I don't take any offence to being called a noob.
  3. Well, the original poster seems to be talking about financial things affecting people's daily lives, and in that case I completely agree. I never learned these things... nobody has had the time to help me understand some of these things. I mean, I'm 18 and I've literally just learned 2 months ago how to pay bills. I really wish someone had shown me how to do this because I got stuffed with a $20 fee for not doing something right. At least I learned that one first, screwing up the next bill would have been a $200 fee... Point is, I was never shown how to handle the daily financial tasks everyone goes through in their lives, and I was never told who to talk to about it. Everyone just assumes you know, and yet many teens (and quite a few adults) don't know about things like savings accounts, doing income tax properly, credit cards... These are extremely valuable life skills... at the very least, if you teach in school people can't say "Oh, I didn't know!" because they did. Sucks to be you if you didn't pay attention in class.
  4. I have a few "lights". They've helped, but I've found most of my light comes from myself. I'm just too determined to satisfy my curiosity with the world to let go now. For me at least, even 80-90 years won't be quite enough. Admittingly though... my girlfriend has made me so happy... she tries so hard to see me and keep a smile on my face when I'd be happy with far less. She's so amazing, and sometimes I feel like I don't deserve her... But the other day she said something that brought tears even to my eyes: Her: "Before you do something you're not sure about... talk to me. Don't forget that I know who you really are." Me: "I don't mean this to be challenging, but... what makes you think that?" Her: "I love you. I love how you always look me in the eyes and how you're so giving (and forgiving!) and how you are willing to do so much to help people get back up, and how you'd do anything for me.... you know, sometimes I feel... like I don't deserve you..." I know it sounds sad but it actually was a really happy moment.
  5. Many of the new monsters and fighting areas are geared to much higher level players, and a lot of the other activities/skills, like construction and slayer require more experience with the game... or just plain old cash, which you don't usually have unless you know what you're doing. Some of the recent updates have been aimed towards lower level players, who form a much larger group in the RS members population. It's unfortunate, but true. Don't forget that high level players are a much harder group to please, because their interests are spread over the same skills as the lower levels, but there aren't as many people to get to in each skill.
  6. Woodcutting/firemaking is a good one, fishing isn't bad, going into the wildy with 3 items and making PKers angry because they have to waste their food is great (I have a grudge with PKers, like a poster on the first page who said he likes to kill innocents) By far, mining is my favourite. I've been a miner since I started, and it's always been nice. I prefer to mine rune essence these days, mostly because I don't have to keep clicking, and I can just watch it pile up in my inventory :P
  7. I remember trying to get planks for the f2p Dragon Quest way back in the day, and the only place I could think of was that broken down house in the western wildy... well, I got killed on my way there, 3 times, by 3 different people, on 3 different servers. I had nothing on me. NOTHING. I even told them they were wasting their time, and I was just getting planks for the quest. Maybe it's just me, but PKers seem to have a need to make up for something.
  8. This one is a four way, lol... what makes it even better is that a player mod was there, the two noobs, and me. Anyway, this took place at Varrock East Bank while I was fletching a few days ago. Noob: Selling full zombie! *He repeated this a few times, then the mod walks into the bank.* Noob: Selling full zombie! Mod: Event items are untradable. Noob: Selling very rare full zombie! Noob2: Buying zombie costume! Mod: Random event items are untradable. Noob: Ok, trade me. Noob2: Ok. Mod: Random event items (like zombie) can't be traded. Me: lol Noob: I can't trade it, wtf? Mod: Maybe that's because random event items aren't tradable.... Me: lmfao *They kept trying for a few minutes, with the mod trying to talk to them the whole time. I was laughing so hard tears were coming out*
  9. Mad4u689 Leza Lady Kalika Lord Solaris (I think he's under a different name now) Peppy 101 (or something like that) It's sad, these are the only people I remember. They were all old timers in RS Trivia... well, here's hoping I hear from them again. If anyone knows anything, please drop me a PM.
  10. Hey FooK, long time no see! I havn't seen anyone from the RST crew in ages. You still in contact with any of them? Anyway, I've been on and off since March 2001. The only thing I have to say I miss is PKing being allowed all over RS. It definitely wouldn't work now, but it was fun then, when everyone was much closer in levels. Hmm... let's see if I can remember anything special: I remember the RS news saying that the 2nd ever server opened around the time I joined. I don't remember if it was there before or after I joined, but I remember that news post. I also remember being a part of RST (RuneScape Trivia) for awhile, though I didn't really do anything of great importance. Addy plate was 40k, and at the time 40k was the stuff of dreams. A huge zone of Varrock and a smaller one in Fally was set aside for Player Owned Houses, which have finally come to be I specifically remember Bluerose13x making addy kites for people in exchange for 300 or 350 coal (can't remember). Only there were no item banks... people had to use mules. Heh, well, I'm done for now. I sound like an old man rambling off old tales... and I'm only 18. Wow... to think I've been playing this game since I was 12! My stats definitely don't show it, lol... only ~950 total skills : I remember being deathly afraid of you guys... until I started making armor for Sabres. Business was good :P I very vaguely remember Cyberwars. I remember seeing Sabres making the move over and thinking "Aww crap. Not again..." lol. As a group, you guys were definitely slow to make friends, that's for sure. I was playing LORD when I was 4 years old, and I still own a working Atari 2600 (was actually thinking of hooking it up again today, heh). I was born in 88 so you've probably got me beat, but I wasn't raised by video games, I was raised with them
  11. I do that. I also try to tell how many people are coming in that "group", how fast they're walking and if I know any of them. I get it almost everytime. I have this bad habit of finishing people's sentences. People keep saying I can read minds because of it :-s It ties in with my habit of paying attention to as many minor details as possible. I watch people's facial expressions, listen to their breathing, look at the way they move their body, and consciously make notes the whole time. Like my friend Nat said, "You can even tell when people are lying to themselves." I've also recently been really hard on girls who show interest in me. I ask them a lot of hard questions and challenge them pretty early on. I got like this after 2 really nasty girlfriends, so I guess it shouldn't be surprising...
  12. I wouldn't call it a phobia, but I do get extremely uncomfortable around pointy/sharp objects, especially when they're close to my face (because I'm also incredibly afraid of getting hit in the eyes) That does include fingers near my face, which does make some of the ladies think I'm weird. Once I trust someone it's alright, but it takes some getting used to.
  13. To get respect from some people, you have to earn it. To get it from others, you have to take it. Now, we only have one side of the story, but it sounds like you'll have to put your parents in their place. Like an above poster said (sorry, didn't grab your name) you have to stand up for yourself. But it doesn't have to be overt... taking their power away by being silent will at least have some effect, if only to make them think you need help. Just be careful; you need to be utterly silent. If they get a reaction out of you, all that work you've put in will have been lost. Besides that, just remember happiness is a state of mind. You make it for yourself.
  14. I don't know if you've been playing long enough, but for a time there was no way to see your progress in skills. Some people actually wrote up guides talking about exactly what items they had made to level. I think it was Hitman X who described his levels after level 60 smithing. Heh, yeah, I'm an old timer (though it definitely doesn't show in my stats)
