Ridiculous problem with my computer that's driving me insane

30 April 2006 - 06:30 PM

Ok so my computer one day started to not turn on, it'd work for about 2 seconds and then go off. I thought it was the power supply so one of my relatives who works repairing computers took the computer and fixed it. I say fixed it, I mean, he got it to turn on and stay on. Now however, when I load up the computer, I get to the Windows screen; 'To begin, click your user name' but then when I click, I get an error. It says: 'Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system. DETAIL - insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service', and then it loads a blue screen of death.

However, when I load my computer up and go into safe mode, it loads fine and everything is there. I'm guessing something has corrupt but I don't know what.

I have a couple of questions:

- Is there a way to fix this without taking the easy route of re-installing Windows? I don't feel like putting 60GB worth of data onto discs.

- If I have reinstall or format, can I burn stuff to disc in safe mode?

- Would system restore help? And if so, can I use it in safe mode?

Any help is appreciated.

I'll be in standing. They've been playing some Rage Against the Machine and Soundgarden songs on this tour. It's going to rule.

Anyone else going, or been to one of their shows on this tour yet?
