  1. The treasure trail guide says "house" instead of "building" and "Here's" instead "Here is"
  2. My first death was to the bear near the mine southeast of Varrock. I was carrying a red party hat with me at the time. :( I started playing RS in December 2001 and was around for the Christmas cracker drops. I got a red party hat from one of them. Gosh, I miss that hat.
  3. Those bug topics are getting bumped up by someone. Look at the "Last Post" column. The majority of those topics were originally posted months ago.
  4. The image of the error message appears to be broken now, however if the error you describe is similar to what I experienced in the past then changing your Java Virtual Machine might fix it. Are you by any chance using Sun's Java? If so, you should try Microsoft's JVM. I used to get a problem a lot that forced me to close IE too and I was using the Sun JVM, but since I've switched I haven't had the same problem ever again. Microsoft no longer offers this on their web site due to a legal agreement with Sun. And while Sun's is supposed to be most up to date JVM, I find the MS one much more reliable for RuneScape. You can download it here. Just click the link that says "Java Virual Machine".
  5. Crystal bow and shield are not alchable anymore, however they do have a low alch and high alch value. Each stage has a different value. This is from a resource file mind you, but you should find it accurate as far these protecting over other items. Crystal Bow Full or New - 360k 9/10 - 320k 8/10 - 280k 7/10 - 240k 6/10 - 200k 5/10 - 160k 4/10 - 120k 3/10 - 80k 2/10 - 40k 1/10 - 20k Crystal Shield New - 320k Full - 300k 9/10 - 268k 8/10 - 236k 7/10 - 204k 6/10 - 172k 5/10 - 140k 4/10 - 108k 3/10 - 76k 2/10 - 40k 1/10 - 10k Fire cape: 24k Verac's helm - 41200 Verac's brassard - 112k Verac's skirt - 110k Verac's flail - 64k Guthan's helm - 41200 Guthan's platebody - 112k Guthan's chainskirt - 110k Guthans's spear - 40k Torag's helm - 41200 Torag's platebody - 112k Torag's legs - 110k Torag's hammers - 64k Dharok's helm - 41200 Dharok's plate - 112k Dharok's legs - 110k Dharok's greataxe - 83200 Ahrim's hood - 5200 Ahrim's top - 20k Ahrim's bottom - 18800 Ahrim's staff - 34k Karil's coif - 5200 Karil's top - 20k Karil's skirt - 18800 Karil's crossbow - 64k For more alch values, this website can be helpful: http://kulma.ath.cx/rs/items No where does it say that the information came from resource files, but I can only assume it does because of how frequently it is updated and the fact that it shows item ID numbers. But nonetheless, it's an excellent resource especially for those wanting to know store values of items.
  6. Something I don't believe that has been mentioned yet, but I just got a rune bar from the giant mole.
  7. Oh, yes! :D I finally got the cape after 30+ tries. I was left with more supplies than I thought would be possible. But something that I finally tried was not killing the healers. Every time before that I always tried killing them and in the end I failed. But this time I fired my crystal bow at each healer so they were after me. I got them lined up so only one of them was actually attacking me. And then I continued firing at Jad until he died. I only had to eat twice during that time and I was still wearing dragonhide even. So a higher defense level would probably help if you do it that way. But I could not believe my eyes when I saw the almighty 702 finally fall to the ground. After some large amount of money that I didn't keep count of for crystal bows and prayer pots and 30+ tries, my pain is finally over.
  8. Since today's update (Cabin Fever quest), I thought it might be worth noting that you can now take a break during the fight cave mini-game (the one with the TzTok-Jad/702). Before you had to stay logged in for 2 or more hours (give or take a few) in order to successfully complete the game. When you click logout while doing the mini-game, you get a message that states: What this means is that you cannot logout in the middle of a wave of monsters, but once you kill all the monsters of the current wave, then you will be automatically logged out. When you log back in, you will be placed at the center of the caves and the next wave of monsters will spawn. Edit by oddfaery2 05/30/07: Somebody already put this in the guide before I went through posts today
  9. Has anyone noticed that you can now take a break by logging out? I'm not completely sure when this came about, but I think it came with today's update (Cabin Fever quest). When you click logout, you get a message that says: Your logout request has been received. You will be logged out at the end of the current wave. Please click the logout button again to abort this minigame entirely. You can't log out during the middle of a wave. It logs you automatically after you complete the current wave. And when you log back in, you're back in the middle of the cave (unfortunately not exactly where you were when you logged out).
  10. This is great news. I knew I wasn't imagining it. Now I can get back to trying to get the fire cape without worrying about getting meleed to death by Jad.
  11. I've certainly experienced the monsters backing up sometimes. I believe that oocurs because you are too far away from the "area" that the NPC is tied to. It can't wander far from it's "set area" and so it goes back into that area. At least that's what I think. That's not lag related and it certainly isn't annoying as this is. I don't think this glitch has anything to do with that really. And the hill thing you're talking about probably more has to do with being at a so-called "bad" angle which causes you to go closer to the NPC. This commonly occurs at blue dragons. That's understandable and is not what I'm talking about. This is different.
  12. That is true about lag. But I generally play late at night when there are not very many people on (as was the case when I visited the fight caves). I also generally play on a server that is closest to me. I really fail to see how this is lag though. It happens far too often. Yes it's random, but it happens often enough that it seriously bothers me. Are you sure that your "once in awhile" thing wasn't a result of not being close enough to the blue dragon or attacking from the wrong angle? That can happen quite a bit and I accept that. But I do not accept this recent glitch. For all the time that I have played RS2, this has never happened until the agilty pyramid update on January 16th. An update has come since then at it still occurs. I lived in Florida and used cable and never had this occur. I moved to Wisconsin and for awhile was using a computer at the local library. Never happened there. Then later I was able to use dial-up on my own computer. It never even occurred then. Now I have cable again and has not happened for quite a stretch of time. Why now unless it truly is a bug?
  13. That might be the case. But I generally do not lag. And I have only noticed this since the agilty pyramid update. My internet connection has not changed since then. And if I were lagging, wouldn't I experience it elsewhere in the game and not just when it comes to ranging? Normally I would agree with you. But this happens far too often to just be some random lag. Besides, it happens when I just click attack without right clicking. I can one click blue dragons for instance. It happens there too. Also in the fight caves, I recall it happening when I was trying to range the level 45s. So it's not just right clicking.
  14. I can't seem to find anyone mentioning it here. I saw a few small blurbs about it on the official forums the day that agility pyramid arrived (which is when I have noticed it myself). I thought as with most of these so called "hidden" updates that it was nothing to worry about and they were imagining things. Until I noticed it myself... To get to the point, when ranging sometimes your character will run or walk up to the NPC you're trying to fight and then fire arrows. I'm well aware of the fact that if you're too far out of range, that this will occur. But this seems to be happening randomly where you are clearly not too far away. I have been only two squares away from an NPC with a long bow for example and still would run up to the NPC and end up getting hit. This happened to me a few days ago at the fight caves. I had killed all the healers and 702 had very little health left. When I had to switch prayers, I clicked attack and ran right up to him. This resulted in me getting hit a 77 and dying. Let's just say I was not a happy camper. I knew I was close enough because just a few a moments ago I had been ranging him fine in the same exact spot. I have reported it to Jagex, but as of yet haven't received a reply. I usually get an automated reply saying it isn't a bug or thanking me for the bug report. In fact the same day I reported that I reported this one, I reported another minor bug that did receive an automated reply thanking for the report. So it seemed kind of odd to me that I did not for the other one. So has anyone here noticed it? Because I have seen very few posts regarding it on the official forums and virtually nothing on this forum. Only recently I have seen a post in the Rants section of the official forum. I would have figured that there would be more "outrage" over this by now. But I guess either I'm one of very few people experiencing it or I'm just imagining things. If I'm not the only one, then I certainly hope others besides me report this as a bug so that it can be fixed as soon as possible. It is a rather annoying bug and can cause you to die as was the case for me, heh.
  15. Simply put, my problem is that I'm unable to load Runescape using Internet Explorer and Microsoft's Java VM. All that I see is a grey screen where the applet is supposed to be. But it gets more complicated than this. It seems to have only happened since this week's update (the agility pyramid one). It has worked fine in the past. And I honestly don't know what to do anymore. First off, using Sun's JVM with Internet Explorer does work fine. Using Firefox and Sun's JVM also works fine. So I can play Runescape, but I really would like to be using Internet Explorer + MS JVM as I have crashing issues that happen too often with Sun's JVM. But that is beside the point. What makes this weirder is that, if I select to use the unsigned applet using default java (which in my case is the MS JVM) Runescape loads perfectly fine. But obviously I don't want to use that since I have to download the files every time. To add even more strangeness to this is the fact that Jagex's official Windows client works fine using the signed applet and the MS JVM. Now to the best of my knowledge, the client is using the Microsoft web browser control which technically uses Internet Explorer to render the web pages and such. What I do not understand here is why it works in the client and not in the standard Internet Explorer program... Even stranger is this... I'm using Windows XP Pro. There are two user accounts on my computer. The one that I use has admin privileges. The other account is a limited user account. But guess what? Runescape loads fine in Internet Explorer using the signed applet on the limited user account! Again I ask, why does it not work on my own user account with admin privileges? I have enabled the Java console also to see if any error messages popped up when I try loading the RS applet in Internet Explorer and I do get an error which is this: java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: DZXWUJSL at java/lang/ClassLoader.findSystemClass at cloader.loadClass at java/lang/ClassLoader.loadClass at loader.run at java/lang/Thread.run I doubt that will help me very much in solving the issue as there are no error messages in the console on the limited user account of course. I have also tried deleting all temporary files and cache files. I have deleted every file in C:\Windows\.file_store_32 (which is where RS stores it files). But none of that seems to have really helped. However, after deleting the files in .file_store_32, I noticed that I see a progress bar on the applet that says "Loading game code" because it's downloading the files again. It gets to 100% and then just freezes. This is the exact moment that the Java error above appears in the console. After trying to reload the applet again, I get just grey screen again. I do not really understand this at all. While I certainly can still play Runescape using the Windows client and the MS JVM, I still want to get to bottom of this and get this fixed. Does anyone have any suggestions? EDIT: Well this is really strange. This morning it still was not working in Internet Explorer. Then about 10 minutes later, I checked again and it all of a sudden worked!? I'm really baffled.
