  1. Runescape is made up of multiple 'levels'. This was talked about in the High Detail dev diary in context of the new water graphics. From memory there are 4 or 5 levels for each square of world map. When you go up/down a ladder, you move to a different level, but not necessarily on the same square. Dungeons may be on a particular level within the uncharted space, but are unlikely to be on ground level, as that would break their ability to use it for real ground. However I'd expect a huge majority of current dungeons to be within the current known map space, as that would be easier for Jagex to manage. As others have said, the black squares are uncharted/undeveloped parts of the map that are slowly being developed and revealed. If someone had a world map from original RS2 release to compare against the current world map, it'd probably be pretty clear. Also, it would be quite interesting for someone to map out (pun intended ) updates since RS2 and what map space was unlocked with each to see if they have any pattern (e.g., large chunk of map space added once per year) - although I doubt there is a set pattern. The massive quest will undoubtedly unlock a good chunk of new map space. The question is: how much and where?
  2. Posted into "RuneScape Oddities" thread:
  3. Yes, this is what he means by infrastructure. It covers the engine, server farm, development tools, business and support processes, among other things. The game is still important, but only to the team assigned to that game. The FubOrb team probably doesn't give a rip about RuneScape (probably not entirely true, as some would have come from the RS team) and vice versa. Each team wants to make their game as good as it can be. As long as each is different enough to not directly compete on concept (.e.g, 'fishing' for repair parts in the junkyard in MechScape), then they have the opportunity to be quite successful with all 3 brands.
  4. Less gold = 1gp is worth more = higher prices. Less gold = more deamnd (aat the same price) = higher prices And Primadog, it costs 200m for the shards alone, so idk how it can cost 44m for 1-99.[/i] But if players have less gp available to them, they will not be physically possible of paying higher prices. Therefore the demand will drop until the supply comes down to meet the equilibrium price that buyers can (and want to) afford. Ultimately, this is a skill that can be raised a heck of a lot of ways (why not just buy everyone's pouches on GE and summon them all???). Picking generic gp values is not really beneficial. It CAN cost 250M but it CAN cost 50M, depending on how you train it, how fast you want to train it, and how much effort you want to go to to get charms and secondaries. Evidence is now needed as to how people are training it and the speed.xp/gp ratio before a close to absolute opinion can be developed. I expect the spirit shard price to drop - possibly in half - sometime this year. Not sure when, but definitely this year, because I'm pretty sure it's more expensive than they really wanted it to be. Hmm... So Jagex's initial price for spirit shards were wrong? Ahh!!! Everyone panic!!! It's now time to throw your hands in the air, run frantically in circles, and make high pitched screaming noises until you fall unconcious from lack of oxygen!!! Since when has Jagex been wrong!?!... Seriously. I mean it. Jagex probably WON'T lower the cost. Why? Cause they seem to really want to bleed our economy. And, as December 10 and January 3 have taught us, they don't back down when they really don't like something. Based on the latest news post, I'd like to say "I told you so", but I won't say that of course ... I'm faaaar to mature to do that. I'm surprised that it happened so quickly though.
  5. Technically speaking, you were the first person to log out with 30 Summoning. It's entirely possible that someone else hit 30 but kept leveling for another couple of hours. Either way, awesome job ... if the above did happen, you're the smarter one!!

  7. Lol that is the general point. But what did f2p lose? :-k Yeah, a pretty dopey comment from dv_trainer. We've lost something we didn't have?? BlimpyboyJr, what I'd suggest you add to this is how many of each recommended familiar you'd need to summon to reach the next level.
  8. I foresee a repetition of the last Multi Site Steel War, where members are Tip.it. A few members will die, but really all you'll see is F2P carnage. I find it hard enough to kill a revenant ... I'd have no hope on a member with anything better than rune.
  9. I haven't read through all 11 pages (just page 1 and 11), so forgive me if this has already been said. I think that rares will eventually go back up a bit, but not reach the old highs. This is because of the availability of money. RWT has been killed, meaning that people aren't able to buy lots of gp. Also since the changes on death (gravestones, etc), there is an increase to the gp lost on death. No one else can pickup the high value items you drop if you don't make it back, so that gp is lost in the game. The GE has caused many skiller profits to drop due to lower prices. There is no PKing anymore. Overall, the player to player mass-transfer of wealth has been eliminated. All in all, there are more money drains now than there used to be, so players simply don't have the spare millions to put in the rares. Therefore the demand is lower but supply is the same or increasing because of the hysteria and/or expectation of gp needed for Summoning. Of course, this was a desired side-effect of the changes over the last few months (or entirely intentional), as Jagex never intended the rare market to be there. They may eventually discontinue them after dragging prices low enough so that the final hit is minimal (make everyone in the process take a little hit on the way). But if they really wanted to do that, they may as well plant fake buyers to pull the rares out of the game. Since they probably haven't been doing that, I'd suggest that they are still quite a way away from discontinuing them.
  10. :-$ Shhh, they haven't noticed me yet. Quick, get a mod to delete the thread before Jagex read it ... it's not too late! But seriously, the world is big enough for RS and WoW. They are quite different games in the same general category. If the games were exactly the same, you'd probably see Blizzard swallow Jagex.
  11. F2P has become a lot harder in many ways (esp. Revenants ... we just don't have the range of weapons available that P2P do), which is probably why things like Dual Arena were released to F2P. I'm not complaining about this, because it is a logical and smart way for them to go. Make the free game just a little bit harder on one hand, add new things with the other, and hope that the end result move more to members. If I played more and didn't have more important needs for my $, then I would definitely go members.
  12. hey, good suggestion there, but is kinda common sense, as in you use diff attack styles depending on which stat you want to train, so is up to the ppl who are training. But anyway, thx for the suggestion :D appreciate it. If only common sense was common. Nice guide ... but I think suggestions around combat style would be useful, although your defense level suggestions are probably more useful to most. My suggestion is to keep attack and strength relatively close together, then bring up defense to an appropriate level before moving onto the next tougher monster. Although my stats don't currently show it ... I rate attack over strength. Better to hit lower more regularly than higher with more misses. Defense gives you staying power which would hugely speed up your training. On the whole, it is common sense, but sometimes people don't think when you expect them to
  13. I'd bet that most exP2P players who would complain about being stuck with the 3k limit would also complain about F2P getting all other updates as well. Doesn't entirely make sense that F2P don't have the an increased trade window, but I guess it is just showing everyone that F2P doesn't get everything ... maybe just to make a point.
  14. i realy hope its p2p only , so the members will get +5-6 useless cb levels for f2p , and when they want to go pvping they will be totaly pwned. If summoning is P2P only it would be the other way around where P2P would gain a disadvantage in F2P worlds or be the same depending on where you go ^_^ For example, if summoning were to be P2P, those players that raise combat through summoning levels but no F2P combat stats would experience a disadvantage to those with the same F2P combat stats but a lower level within the 1st and 2nd caves moving to the next higher cave in bounty hunter  The assumption would be that summoning would have no effect in F2P worlds thaat's what I was trying to say ( you have better way with words .. ) It's for this reason (partly) that I think it might have a F2P aspect. That way there will always be some balance between P2P and F2P. Otherwise, as has been said, P2P will be at a disadvantage on F2P worlds (primarily in BH for the moment), unless they completely ignore summoning stat when calculating combat level when on F2P worlds. As a F2Per, I don't expect it to be F2P, but can see some overall game reasons that it could become F2P. Personally, to me it'd make more sense to make an old skill (e.g., theiving) F2P rather than a new one.
  15. I think it will be members. If you go to yanille magic guild you can see into the pet shop. If it was F2P then it wouldn't be in yanille :? I had thought it was going to be members only, but since it affects combat level, I might have to change my mind. It would unbalance the overall game by allowing level 138 members into F2P world against level 126 players, although I guess the summoning aspects wouldn't be usable so in a sense it wouldn't actually affect combat. It would, at minimum, blurr the understanding about what someone's levels might actually be (e.g., level 100 F2P vs level 100 member). If it is F2P, it'll be equally as hard as prayer (or more so) to level.
