  1. Now I assume you mean it uses your stats with the deflect hit? Totally seperate from your melee hit? Because there were multiple times where I hit a 350+ deflect hit with a 400+ melee hit in the same game tick. If that's what you're saying, then yes, I think that may be the case :P Sorry if my post wasn't clear, but yes, I am theorizing that the damage of the deflect hit is calculated with your stats. The deflected hit (triggered as a result of having a deflect curse active) and the normal melee hit you deal are two independent instances that both use your stats when calculating the damage.
  2. It seems clear to me that the first "poll" was nothing more that a publicity stunt designed to both generate maximum support for the issue due to the way it was presented (massive signs saying to vote yes with only one option available), and also to get more players back into the game. I don't think that Jagex could be so unbelievably incompetent as to design a whole new page just for this poll when they have been using a perfectly good system for years. They must have known full well that the player base would be largely in favour of this change as numerous players have been screaming for its return these past few years. I'd also be willing to bet that a lot of players who are indifferent on the issue of unbalanced trades and wilderness pking returning are supporting the issue due to the clear mob mentality that has formed. They were already planning on returning things to the way they were, and just wanted to gain the maximum amount of support from the players by acting like they're genuinely willing to take the community's opinions seriously on important issues. As for Jagex's supposed new methods of bot detection, I feel that they're kidding themselves if they think they can control the problem. Regardless of how advanced they make their systems, newer and better bots will always be developed. The number of bots has not been lowered in any noticeable way lately, so they either haven't implemented these miraculously efficient system of theirs or it doesn't work. Not to mention that, if the did have some revolutionary technology for combating bots, why would they advertise it so much? Why not keep it under the radar in order to catch the casual cheater off guard? And do they really think that by telling the community about it that it will be a sufficient preventative measure? I think that Jagex knows what will happen, and they just want to minimize any backlash from the community. I can't say for certain what the future of Runescape will hold, but I have my doubts that it will be another "golden age".
  3. That's the strange part, now isn't it? Because her max hit with mage (and Melee) is only 315... My take on the matter is this... The deflect damage is not the monster hitting itself, but rather handled as the player dealing the damage. When the monster attacks you with a deflect prayer up, the damage that would be dealt to the player is prevented as normal. The game checks what damage would have been dealt to the player, and then has the player deal a hit to the monster for set damage equal to 10% of the damage that was prevented. In this case with Veracs equipped, this cap is no longer considered and the player damages the monster as if it was a normal hit, without concern for how much damage was prevented. This means that the deflect damage is calculated using the player`s stats, and not the monster whose damage was reflected. This would allow for large hits such as this to occur. Obviously this is just speculation.
  4. You're that terrified of other players? I'd love to see how you'd react if you ran into a black guy in a dark alley somewhere  I fail to see where he claimed to be afraid of other players. If you're trying to troll, you aren't doing a very good job. Personally, I also think Nuke's idea is pretty much perfect. It satisfies skillers, pkers, and clue hunters. The only people who I can see having a problem with it are those who specifically want to pray on defenseless players. I don't see the appeal in going after clue hunters or skillers since the pker gets hardly anything for the kill and they become an annoyance. All it does is create more bad feelings between the two groups and, frankly, the current culture conflict between them is bad enough already.
  5. Certainly an interesting read, however the writing is kinda bland. Granted, if they tried to spice it up and include every noteworthy or interesting update they might make it too long, and a lot of people might not bother reading it. It's too bad that I started this account so soon after the implementation of RS2. I would've loved to have been around for RSC when it was in it's prime, just so I could see what all the hype is about. Still, it is always interesting to consider just how far the game has come in the time I've been playing.
  6. Happy birthday :D

  7. You need to get over your hate and bias. I'm sure that there are some pkers that are respectable individuals. However, the vast majority of those I encountered prior to the removal of the old open pk wilderness were immature individuals who pked simply to annoy other players. This is purely from my own experience however, and does obviously not mean that all pkers were like this. Although I can say with confidence that many were. One could also say that it is a little selfish to force inconvenience on others and make them change their habits just so you can pk like the "good old days".
  8. Since nobody else is going to address this issue, I will. It is certainly true that botting is every bit as prevalent as it was before free trade/wilderness pk were removed. While the overall number of bots has remained more or less the same, the purpose of these bots has shifted. Following the removal of free trade, the numerous gold farming operations that once had a significant impact on Runescape's economy largely disappeared. However, in their place we now have more sophisticated bots used for everything from mining to killing green dragons. They are simply less noticeable than before since bots are no longer primarily generic level 3 throwaway accounts to be cycled though. If free trade and open PvP were to return, there would be no reduction is the number of these types of bots. The thing is, with the return of free trade it is a foregone conclusion that the gold farmers that we no longer see will return. Thus, we will have both groups of bots, normal looking players and gold farmers, botting at the same time. Reintroducing free trade/wilderness pking will, therefor, lead to a higher number of bots than ever before.
  9. Well, after putting it off for a long time... I sure hope this was worth the 110mil I spend on bones...
  10. Seems like a pretty cool bonus for doing the quest. Hidden content like this is always cool, and I wish Jagex would throw in hidden details like this more often. Helps keep things interesting. Unfortunately, mine gave me only 250k worth of junk =/. Could've been worse, though. Found my in Isafdar, btw.
  11. That's possible, but if it is a Mahjarrat then he has to be the lamest one we've seen thus far. He sure went down pretty easy given how strong they're supposed to be. If I remember correctly, someone posted that concept art in the torva thread. I don't think it's really fair to say that the quality of the trailer's animation is terrible. It certainly isn't good compared to what is common these days, however considering the engine used to create it the quality could be a lot worse. edit: I think this is the concept art you're referring to...
  12. No? Just a more interesting and unique place than the rest of runescape. Not for the pker. I think pvp right now is pretty broken. I don't know about you, but lagville pking and putting all the pkers into a giant cage with safe areas 3 squares is a disgrace compared to what pking in the old wild was like. Not to mention the drop system and this crap with DP and EP. I can't get good drops unless i lose a bunch of money or wait an hour? What? If memory serves, the old pk system wasn't really any better. Instead of packing everyone in and around Edgeville, pkers were generally concentrated just north of the boarder of the wilderness. Safety was still just a few squares away. It was also pretty crowded around there, especially in W18 and other worlds where pking was popular. The current system is far from perfect, and I will agree that the way drops are handled could certainly use some work. That being said, I don't think reverting back to the old wilderness is the best solution. I'm not saying that there should be no risk in the game, far from it. However, why should there be risk involved in certain activities like level 3 clues in the first place? It's not like the expected return of one is very high, in fact on average you receive rather little. The only reason I can think of is that people remember how it used to be, and think that anything different is inherently inferior. It seems to me that Jagex would be opening a big can of worms if they went through with this, considering the complaints that were common back in the day. Not to mention that they would be forcing a world idealized by long term players on some who where never around for the old wilderness in the first place, and are likely fine with the way things are now.
  13. So, the old wild was just like /b/? The problem is that it would be increasing the risk of preexisting content (such as the Chaos Tunnels) while keeping the reward the same. I imagine that most players wouldn't bother using the tunnels when they'd have to dodge pkers every time they wanted to kill some demons/dust devils/bork/etc. Anyways, I agree with NukeMarine. In terms of combating RWT, reintroducing the old wilderness is just taking a step backwards. Jagex would need to relocate and rework numerous features added to the wilderness after open pking was removed in order to make the appealing to the players. I'm not sure that its worth going to that much trouble simply because they want to shoehorn pking back into the wilderness. Whatever happened to the whole "if it ain't broke, don't fix it?" mentality that Tipit users have had for so long? The current system is not broken, and the old system was not perfect. There's no need to make things the way they were. It seems to me that most players have simply been blinded by the rosy tint of nostalgia.
  14. What's your evidence to support your statement that bots are still abundant and that botting and rwting is as it was 3 years ago? It's hard to cite any real evidence that RWT is still a problem, however one simply needs to take a trip to east Varrock to see the abundance of rune essence bots. Not to mention the bots that can be found in other areas such as the Living Rock Caverns. I'm not sure if it's a big a problem as it was, however it would be naive to think that it isn't still a major issue. The difference is, as stated before, that the bots aren't primarily level 3 throwaway accounts like they were, but rather otherwise legitimate looking players. Old problems have simply been replaced with new ones. Bringing back wilderness pking/free trade is likely to cause more harm than good, and would certainly increase the amount of RWT already present. I shudder to think how prolific bots would be if free trade was reintroduced. While I can understand the appeal of having things as they once were, it is a change which does not *need* to be made.
  15. I agree with Stormrage, the only thing that *needs* to be changed is the PvP drop table. This entire "poll" is astoundingly biased and flawed. The inability to vote no, as well as not requiring a password defeats the purpose of the poll. They simply cannot expect to get an accurate representation of the player base when anyone can log into the game and submit the names of whoever the see and the Grand Exchange. Not to mention the bots that have already been made for the sole purpose to submitting names to this poll. There is simply not logical reason why Jagex would make a poll this flawed unless it was intentional, particularly since their polls in the past have required log in information. I found this little note to be especially interesting... Jagex is encouraging people who don't even play the game, and have no knowledge of any of the issues involved, to support something they know virtually nothing about. I can only conclude that Jagex has already determined whether or not to reintroduce free trade and wilderness pk, and this poll is only a stunt. They either plan on doing this anyway, in which case this poll is an attempt to convince the players that Jagex listens to their opinions, or they plan on keeping things the same and the petition is just a way of getting the players to shut up about the issue when it all blows over. I think the most amusing part about all of this is how the average player seems to have done a 180 in terms of their opinion of Jagex. A few weeks ago, if someone was critical of Jagex's decisions they received endless support, while those who defended the company were met with flames. How quickly people forget the past. As I read the posts in this thread that have been made since Jagex made this announcement, it seems that most people who support the return of wilderness pking/free trade think that their opinion is the only one that matters. Inb4 someone "votes" for me after reading this.
