  1. To lose weight, you need to have a calorie deficit. Meaning you have to burn more calories than you consume on a given day. It takes 3500 burned calories to lose 1lb of fat, so if you have a deficit of 500 calories/day you'll lose 1lb per week. For most people this means restricting themselves to 1500-2000 calories per day, depending on a variety of factors. As a weightlifter on a strict diet, keeping a calorie log is essential. It's also not too hard these days with sites that have databases of all types of brand name and generic foods, all you have to do is type in what you ate, it'll come up and you click on it. It's a great way to put what you eat in to perspective. Consume lots of protein and good carbs (less-refined sugars). A couple sites that have calorie counters: http://www.livestrong.com http://www.fitday.com Good luck and don't give up. It's worth it.
  2. I have a 12-month lease on a 4 bdrm flat. Even though the lease technically is only 12 months long, we must give 3 months notice that we are not renewing, otherwise it will automatically renew. It's in place so the landlord has ample time to find new tenants.

    Reading

I hate to judge a book by its cover... But my god, who designed that? It's absolutely disgusting. The tag line is idiotic, too. Well I do judge books by their covers, and this one takes the cake at the height of the printed crapola. Stephen9o3, don't buy it, much less read it. For no reason other than you spite you two, and because the book actually received good reviews, I went out and bought this book. I don't have tons of time to read, so it'll probably take me a couple weeks to get through it. I'll report back when I'm done. :)

I decided to look for some reviews: http://www.bookspotcentral.com/2008/10/ ... f-shadows/ http://www.sffworld.com/brevoff/494.html http://fantasyscifibookreview.blogspot. ... weeks.html Last paragraph from the first 3 hits on google for reviews, I usually only ever read the conclusion of reviews. Overall very decent reviews. Not sure how reputable those sources are but still, I prefer reviews from average joe's rather than those who know everything there is to know about literature, as I am someone who definitely doesn't.

Has anyone read the Night Angel trilogy by Brent Weeks? It always catches my eye when I'm at the bookstore but I'm hesitant to buy. It is Brent Weeks' debut trilogy, and it seems like the trilogy could be pretty corny, but I'm not sure. Here's what book 1 looks like:

I'm currently reading Eric Nylund's newest book Mortal Coils. I bought it because I thought the Halo books by him (particularly the first one) were very well written. I'm a couple chapters from the end. The book is pretty decent, took a little while to get started. There will be more to the series, so I'm definitely interested in how those will turn out. Next on my shelf is Ender's Game. I hope it lives up to all that I've heard of it.
  7. Haha, just watched that episode today, and I actually laughed out loud when Ben made the reading remark.
  8. I would have voted for the coalition in the past election. It's about time a coalition was formed. The only reason the conservatives are in power is because they're the only right-wing party, and the votes from all the people that vote right wing are concentrated on one party. Whereas there are multiple left-wing parties and left-wing voters' votes are spread amongst several parties. I would love to see Stephen Harper go, he's really making himself look bad now too, by claiming this is undemocratic (which it isn't, look up responsible government), and by attacking separatism so hard and claiming a vote for the coalition is a vote for separatism.
  9. I really don't want to see a Conservative majority. In my riding, we currently have an independent MP, Bill Casey. He was a Conservative but he was kicked from the caucus for voting against his own party's budget because it violated terms of the Atlantic Accord. He's running again, as an independent, and I plan to vote for him, and I think he has a good chance of winning. Green Party announced that they support Bill Casey and won't be running anyone against him.
  10. come to Canada  We do have some good universities and medical schools here. I've been considering medicine but I'm still unsure, I'm going into first year of science this September at Dalhousie in Halifax.
  11. Hey! I play this game every now and then, use to play the old TMN too. A while ago I was ranked about 20,000th, but as of lately I havent been playing and now I'm like 60,000th. I gave this game a shout out in the "Racing Games" thread a couple days ago ( viewtopic.php?f=151&t=758491 ) Send me a friend request whoever, my username is Stephen9o3.
  12. I saw someone ask about piano sheet music on a torrent site (invite only) that im a member of. Only a couple replies but they were talking about a website called pianosheets.org, it's a piano sheet music site, downloads are torrents. I'm not sure of the selection or anything of that sort, but you could check it out if you wish.
  13. I highly suggest Trackmania Nations Forever to everyone here. It's a FREE F1 racing game, but it's not just racing around a flat track, there's loop-de-loops, wall-rides, huge jumps, etc. and it takes quite a bit of skill to be good. The game is made pretty much just for the online play. Quite a few people play online and it's a lot of fun. The reason for "Nations" in the title is because you play representing your country, and you get points for your country. There's also leaderboards for your country and for you province/state. I'm currently ranked 9th in points for Nova Scotia, Canada :P But not many Canadians play, as evident by the fact that Canada is ranked 25th~ in the world on this game (France and Germany are #1 and #2) http://www.trackmania.com/en/
  14. Well, in Canada we have CBC, I guess it might be sort of like a Canadian BBC, and there's also a french version of CBC called Radio-Canada, click HERE for the website. It's a long story why, but right now I don't have the English CBC on TV, only the french CBC, so I've been watching a lot of the olympics in French :P Unfortunately I don't understand French :(. From that website you can watch Live olympic coverage in french. For French music, MuchMusic, Canada's music TV station has a french program that runs for like 1 hour/day, called French Kiss, and also a French sister station, called MusiquePlus, click HERE for the website. There's french programs and whatnot on the website you can watch. There must also be a french music section on that website, but I can't find it, probably due to the fact that navigating a French website is hard with how much French I know :P If you do find it though, it could help you find french music you like that you can later go download or whatever.
  15. Considering that you're just out of high school, that's pretty much impossible. Definitely not impossible, I work 30-40 hours a week at a grocery store for 9$ an hour, so my biweekly pay is $500+ after taxes and crap, 3 months at $500 biweekly would earn me $3000. Only working for the summer though, going to university in September.
