    Dubstep!

Dubstep Awareness The reason Im writing this is because I wish I had guidance to dubstep when I first started my journey to becoming a dubhead. The first time I heard dubstep a few friends of mine and I were going to a ska show (Big D and the Kids Table). On the way there, my buddy turned on a song like I havent heard before. He played Africa VIP by Caspa & Rusko and I was instantly in love. The next part to my journey was to see an actual dubstep show. Fortunately, or unfortunately, my first show I endured was that of Excision and it got me HOOKED. Ive heard his music before and quite liked it, but something about the energy of the crowd and the dynamic attribute of a DJ eliciting moving and what appeared to be profound beats sucked me in. The next night (without sleep of course) I attended Electric Daisy Carnival, which drew a more raver techno crowd that Ive only been a part of a handful of times. I instantly headed toward the dubstep stage where Caspa would be playing and spent most of the night there. Ever since, Ive been sucked in by shows and my musical affliction of dubstep. So anyway heres some things to check out. Songs are self explanatory, and the mixes are in essence a mash up of songs. I know a mix is long, but it reveals a lot about the style of an artist and provides more of an experience than a song on its own. Caspa & Rusko: To me, these two seem like the most traditional form of dubstep. SONGS MIXES Cockney Knees Up Excision & Datsik: By far my favorite DJs. Ive seen them both and have had amazing experiences. They are very filthy yet ever so clean with what they do: Strong basslines and filling wobbles. I stress a listen to the 2010 Shambhala mix and the song Swagga which, to me, is a trademark to dubstep. SONGS Swagga Southpaw Against the Machines REMIXES A Millie MIXES Shambhala 2008 Shambhala 2009 Bassnectar: This guy is a god, but I dont consider him a complete dubstep artist. His music isnt so focused on wobbles as traditional dubstep is. Hes amazing live and you cant really go wrong with him. SONGS REMIXES Day N Night MIXES Live Mixset for KISS FM Borgore: Lyrically explicit, dirty wobbles, heavy bass; Borgore has a lot to offer. Impressive to see live. SONGS Nympho REMIXES Womanizer MIXES Ice Cream Mixtape Goresteps Most Hated Doctor P: Havent been able to see him live, but you will most likely hear a Doctor P song at most dubstep shows. Catchy tunes and lyrics. SONGS Badman Sound Reasons (Actually a remix of 12th Planet) ESKMO: Very original and enjoyable. ESKMO uses lots of natural sounds and has a more chillax feel to it. SONGS Hypercolor MIXES LAZERSWORD: A mash up of hip hop and dubstep (hes best with remixes). Sweatpants Money mix is a sick as HELL. Kinda sucked live when I saw him though =/ SONGS Koopa Boss Mode Jet Black REMIXES MIXES Sweatpants Money: https://www.nalden.net/ > click search: sweatpants money > theres an article with a download link. Heres some more of my personal favorites you might like to check out. SONGS Druley Ketamine Ocean MXWL remix Eleanor Rigby ARTISTS Nero: very clean and overall just very good with his reinventions of songs Flux Pavillion: Reminds me a lot of Nero Downlink: A lot like Excision Virus Syndicate: Dark hip hop over dubstep. A LAZERSWORD/Borgore feeling but definitely different Drum Step: In all honesty I think the creation of this sub-genre was a stupid manifestation. What I believe is, the underground listeners of dubstpe feel as though dubstep is mainstream now and to make themselves feel better, put a label on dubstep with a tempo increase Anyway, heres some good tunes in that means. Dream Elephant By all means I didnt cover but a fraction of what is out there in the way of dubstep, but its a good start. Sometimes people ask me what I listen to I say,Dubstep, and they in turn ask, Who is Dubstep? Just thought Id try and spread a modern and growing piece of musical influence to all yall. Its strange how this genre has captured me. The music and the musical culture has me seeing a show almost every week. And as my last piece, no. No, dubstep isnt all I listen to. Im a fairly musically appreciative person. New music, old music, a lot of reggae, ska, metal, rock, indie, rap, hip hop, and a fistful of techno (Im sorry but I really do hate country). So give dubstep a shot, you might like it. And if you do, have fun exploring it's musical domain yourself. P.S. Finding some music is difficult. Mixes require a bit of digging to find. 2. You're colors aren't really that bad. You just need to put more range and contrast on them to make the image look more 3D, eventhough the angle of the face is somewhat flat. Here's just a look at a quick alternative palette that has a wider range of dark and light. I hope this helps. P.S. I found that it helps to have a darker background while working and choosing colors.
  3. @Promise: Thanks @Wongtong: The reason I don't finish mot of my pixel art is because it's extremely time consuming to make an image pixel by pixel. @Ouchy_S: Lol, thanks. I think a gallery is made better with more finished pieces :P @Nadril: I think that the avatars come out better because they aren't forced and thanks. @Deadliest: Thanks, and I'm a fair artist. I'm enrolled in a college art course as well as my studio art class at my Highscool. I could probably post a few drawings if I figure out my new scanner. @Julius: Glad you still like it ;) And yeah, those two are soem of my favorites. @Mylez: Thanks @wildmonkeys: Thanks, I actually am still fond of that one. And I would give it to you , but frankly I have no idea if i sold it or gave it to someone else already. @ThruItAll: I don't recall that one... It might be on my old computer. These that I posted are just left over from my PhotoBucket. @misterxman: Thanks, and yeah I'm kind of a Halo nerd and would've liked to finish it, I just don't really want to do pixel art anymore. I think artists like you and Godslayer really inspired to continue to do pixel art, I would just rather make it a free time activity and make smaller projects. @star_in_the_sky: I could never really get anatomy just how I wanted it, pixels are really rigid and don't flow well... @Pat_61: I made some of my pallets from gameboy or arcade games. Try looking there for some nice pallets.
  4. Not many people know me, but I'm prominently a lurker and post seldomly. Obviously, I was drawn here because of my addiction for RuneScape which has long passed... I got intrigued by the creation of signatures, both pixel and graphic ones, as well as it being a viable way of earning some gold at that time. The point of this is to get some closure of leaving eventhough I might pop my head in every once in a while for a POTM eventhough they do not seem very popular. On to my stuff. My first posted pixel (ignore the samples :? ) Early attempt at making a signature with over used C4D's Improvement Finally got good at using GIMP for making signatures... kinda Working on Pixels WARNING: I do not finish many pixels! way too big to finish... realization of terrible backgrounds lol worked hard on this... this would've been good... Really wanted to finish this, but got really burnt out on it And the first digital painting I'm going to post (I'm still new to it be gentle) My last accomplishment before I quit This is basically my little journey of RuneScape and the things I made along the way here at Tip.It. I still look forward to dropping by and giving my two-cents to people and making an avatar every once in a while ;)
  5. My advice to you, if you want to get serious into drawing, is to look into anatomy. I can tell your going for a more cartoony look, but if you combine that with a bit of studies of anatomy you could do so much better. I drew this sketch of a similar stuctured person, just as a general reference of that body set. I hope this helps... [hide=][/hide] P.S. I know it's not very symmetrical (at all), but I was trying to get the point across.
  6. I went to a ton of concerts this summer. The top were The Police, Birthday Bash, and Projekt Revolution (Atreyu was a lot better than I thought they'd be). I think that you get into the music more at a concert than you would listening to the radio.
  7. Ok, you get it. [img=http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f288/xxxshade/juliusav.png]
  8. I'm giving away this avatar to whoever wants it.
  9. Overall, this picture looks very tossed together: the skulls, sign, and parts of the character all seem to be made in/for different contexts. One thing that bothers me is the path and stalagmites seem rushed and for a album cover. Also, the hand grabbing the skulls seems to be painted in a completly different style than the character itself. Finally, the perspective on the lava makes it akward to look at. I see a lot of potential in individual parts of this piece, but brought together hurts the collective feel of it.

    Pixel WIP

I wouldn't go too in depth into your WIP until you make the point of view a little better. I'm sure you can find some type of guide on the web, but here's a quick draw over to show you what im talking about.
  11. Ok I made a quick draw over to make the anatomy look a little more natural. What I did was: -Made the neck and body thicker -Brought down the eye level -Gave a rough sketch of what arms would look like -Continued the larger body -Drew the line of where the spines may align
  12. After reading it a few times I still don't understand if it's an addition to mage because of the new rune comming with it or if it's a new skill as stated a few time. If there's something I missed it would clear up a lot.
  13. Haven't really seen you since signature selling was banned here. Anyway looks really nice zoomed in, but so far you can't tell too much detail zoomed out. Really like the ammount of detail and colors you put into your work. It's all pixel.
  14. Go kid on the KTM. That's what I rode for my first couple of years.
