    Mining

Lets see, connection speed does have quite a bit to do with mining. If your connection speed is higher, you will often beat out someone with a higher mining level for the ore. Also, first swing has a higher percentage chance of getting the ore right away. I do not know how much this changes each level, but it seems to have been more prominent when I was a lower level. For some reason, as my level goes up, it actually seems to take longer to mine coal. Then again, it may just be perception as the ore that takes longer to mine becomes more noticeable. Also, because of the higher chance of getting the ore on the initial swing, the "double click", or starting to swing twice, seems to be more effective, as you end up getting two "first" swings on the ore, I'm not certain if this is true or not, just heard about it before.

    Powermining

Honestly, I wasn't getting outmined, I do have enough civility to allow a person to mine their fill in peace, then move into that area when they bank to finish filling. (iron in this case) However, the powerminers were enough to make me give up this practice for a while and simply "own" the spawn, especially when a powerminer was there. I have a decent connection, a higher mining skill and I pay attention when mining which makes it that much easier to keep the spawn to myself. Bad911: There is seldom a perfect circuit, it's often a little off (I find anyway), but I very much agree with you there. It often seems as though the people doing this are new to the mining guild (I keep the hi scores open to see who I'm competing against), so they just might not know any better. Most (note I use most, not all) of the miners at 70+ are quite courteous when it comes to mining the coal, mith is competed for, however. Usually, I find 8-9 rocks makes a good circuit, although once, when the guild was almost empty (there might have been one other miner) I went 12 before the first one re-spawned (just about everything one-hit). I've seen several types of these though, there are those who start on the first unmined rock they come to, and mine a line back to their circuit (annoying), those who are simply going from the closed unmined to the next closest unmined (usually newer to the guild) and those who randomly bounce from rock to rock with no apparent pattern at all (confusing and annoying). The first are annoying, but you can either use an off the path pattern, or attempt to keep the rocks in their path clear when they come through. The second are usually fine once you get them set up in their own pattern (maybe try explaining it to them a bit). The third, umm, I really don't know what to say about them, I've seen some people run from the bottom edge of the guild, with 2-3 unmined rocks in easy distance to them, to run to the upper edge (near the guild entry, not the dwarven mine entry) to pick a single rock or two, then running towards the back, skipping several more unmined ores. If someone can explain this manner of miner to me, I would be grateful.
  3. Well, if they honestly need a reason to change it back: From the Irish Defence Forces pages, on the development of the Naval Service Uniform.
  4. You know, one of the differences between real life and Runescape is that in Runescape they will make the nasty, snide little comments to your face and not wait until your back is turned. *sigh* Welcome to the world boys and girls, it ain't a nice place. And the bigger it keeps getting, the more "faceless" each player becomes. Without being limited to a specific world, you just bounce all over the place and you never get to know your neighbors. And, they don't get to know you. In small community games, (and small communities) the people who keep order in the community are the players themselves, as they will ostracize anyone who goes outside of the boundaries that have been set. While you can play by yourself in a MMORPG, what is the point of it? However, if the community grows faster than players can instill the sense of community in the new players, there is a loss of culture. Ask long time players how it was back in the old days and what the community was like and you'll see how it has changed. Admittedly, Jagex has attempted to keep the community spirit alive (which is the reason behind several of the rules), but without the backing of the majority of the community, it just won't happen. Best thing to do is catch players as they start and help them to form a positive image of the community that they WANT to see in this game. Then those players can help to pass it along to others. Focus on doing this and keeping such a community to one or two worlds to begin with and expand from there. But, if YOU do nothing to attempt to improve the community except complain about how bad it is, you are not helping the situation any and have given up your right to complain about it. Ok, enough rambling, hope I made a bit of sense.
  5. Just looking at the high scores, Cooking has less that 50k 99's, that's less than 50k people who MIGHT have the cooking cape. (48645 currently with 6 people who only need 1 exp to go up to it). So, if it's so easy to get, why aren't there more? And if someone tells you that it's so easy to get, where is theirs? Might want to ask them that next time.

    Powermining

Now, before I start this, I will say that I can understand power mining and why to do it, I have even done it myself. However, why, in God's name, does someone think that it is ok to power mine in one of the better banking spots? Especially when the mines are busy? Can't they go find one of the more secluded mining spots to power mine iron? For example, the iron in Edgeville dungeon is far enough away from a bank that it is a pain to bank it and almost no one goes there to mine iron. Is it not a much better place for power mining that in the dwarven mines? Honestly, the people that I saw doing this should have been relatively safe from the skeletons and the iron is far enough away from the hobgoblins that the level 48's don't get in aggro range. But, as if this wasn't enough, why, can someone tell me, does one attempt to power mine on coal in the mining guild? Don't they know that iron is the best bet for power mining? What is wrong with these people that they not only draw resources away from other players, but that they must do so in such an alarmingly inefficient manner? And, no, these were not people who were dropping coal to get more mith, unfortunately, that I could understand to a degree, but they were simply dropping all of the coal that they were mining. BLARGH!!! I am so very glad that I am close to my current mining goal and will be able to stay away from the guild for a while after that.

The minimum requirements are to run RUNESCAPE, not the ads along with it, although they should require that the advertisers make their ads so that they will not interfere with gameplay when run on a machine with the minimum requirements. The bashing comment was actually not aimed at you, but at other posters (you didn't seem to be bashing to me anyway). Honestly, you can usually run programs on a machine that doesn't meet the minimum specs, but it will run much slower (lagging and such). There is also a question of what other programs you have running and how memory intensive they are, both known and unknown (running an audio program, firewall, virus scanner, MSN, Skype, Yahoo messenger, quicktime, real player, etc). And, how many websites you may be visiting. I supose one of the big questions may be whether it is your COMPUTER that is suffering the lag or your CONNECTION. If it's your computer, try and cut down on the background programs as much as possible. If you don't need it while playing, shut it off. Don't browse and do other things. If it is your connection, about the only thing you can do there is to upgrade your connection, or try not to have so many things using the connection at the same time (again, MSN, Skype, Browsers, etc). Finally, when those ads come up and you start to lag, scroll up to them, right click and set them to low detail. It's not a great work around, you have to keep on top of it, but it usually helps reduce the lag experienced. I'm not certain if it's video memory, or ram (It doesn't appear to be connection as much) or if it's the Java client, but on high detail, some of the ads on high detail seem to chew up the resources while they load.
  8. Sorry, forgot, Monitor resolution is also at 800x600. If it's at a higher resolution, it's not a problem, but at the 800x600 it places it behind the hp counter. Sorry for not clarifying earlier. Yes, I play at a low resolution, my 36" monitor is too old to handle the higher resolutions.

I honestly believe that a large part of the lag created by the advertisements is dependent upon your video card. That's one of the reasons that rendering on low resolution will help a lot of players with their lag problems. The higher end video cards will handle the rendering much better, so having to render an ad that moves and rendering the game image isn't so hard on it, on the lower end cards, the extra rendering causes that much extra work for the card so it lags, especially with an ad with a video type component. What would work best to combat the lag, imo, is if you could set the render level of the ads so that they would load at a low level instead of trying to load at high level all the time. And, if Jagex didn't care about the lagging, just imagine how many potential players will be turned off by a laggy game, I'm sure they do. And, if a P2P player wants to play with their f2p friends, they also have to put up with the ads. Honestly, I believe that Jagex would prefer that the ads be as non-intrusive as possible. While they do not make the ads that are displayed, they may have to host and broadcast them, therefore their own bandwidth is being used by these ads, if the ads are eating up too much bandwidth, it degrades the playing experience for everyone and requires more of an investment on their part to allow a large enough allotment of bandwidth for smooth playing and the advertisements. Mostly, I think you shouldn't bash Jagex because your computer isn't up to par, or for things that are beyond their control (such as the load caused by the ads), find a workaround to begin with and then make suggestions for a proper improvement. Oh, and two weeks really isn't long enough, most of the advertisers pay for a month at a time. They can't afford to pay back an advertiser that they have accepted, but that doesn't mean that they have to make a new deal with them. And, using an adblocker is against the rules. None of the advertisements Jagex uses are pop-ups anyway. If you're getting those, they're comming from elsewhere.
  10. Umm, well, as I have been actively watching the window, I have yet to see a warning letting me know when I should wave the mouse across the screen. Honestly, I'm not sitting here with a little timer to let me know that I should wave my mouse in front of the window. And, at times, while I AM watching the screen and paying attention, I may not have my hands free. A bit of warning that would let me know I'm going to be logged so I know I need to move my mouse might be nice. Maybe a little 10 second countdown timer or some such.
  11. What? They all claim to be reputable and say that you can trust them.
  12. It's interesting that I keep hearing about how RWTing goes on in BH, how the person comes in and is guarded by others until the buyer comes up and kills him and then scampers out with his ill-gotten goods. That's the theory that keeps people claiming that the changes have done nothing to stop RWTing. I've visited several different sites advertising Runescape gold and Runescape items. The ones that have actually mentioned how they transfer the items do it through farming the gold with your character. So, they require your runescape character name, password and bank pin. Some of them also require that you are members before they will do it for you. I have not yet seen one that says "Pay us and meet us in Bounty Hunter to do the trade." Now, while Jagex admits that they cannot STOP RWTing, what they have done is cripple it. They have also removed the incentive that caused RWTers to create accounts using stolen credit cards because the money saved up on those accounts will be lost. That was the reasoning behind changing wildy, either stop the rwters and the chargebacks on the stolen cards or shut down Runescape. It is quite interesting just how difficult it is to get this point across. What MIGHT have been witnessed is a transfer of items from a gathering type account (although why they would have FULL guthix before trading it out is rather suspect) to a main account, although I doubt it. Such a transfer method might also be used to transfer an expensive set of items to a friend or clan mate.
  13. Wah, prayer is sooo hard. I'll have to click a whole bunch of times with my dragon bones at a guilded altar. Try it as f2p. Best bones are Big Bones, no altars to boost your exp...(No, I don't have 99 prayer, mine's currently 53 and I haven't bought a bone, but there are f2p who do have 99 prayer). Sorry, but hearing members complaining about something like this seems a bit silly if you ask me.
  14. I managed to get the frogs while playing the Great Orb Project. I wonder if anyone has gotten randoms while playing FOG?

They have probably already been paid for the month to display the ads. So, they have to fulfill the contracted obligation. They do not, however, have to renew such an obligation. It may also be something with your computer, such as needing to update this or that to prevent it from slowing you down. When they come up, make sure you right click and set them to low resolution, that should help with some of it until they are removed.
