I highly doubt the people buying the items know they are coming from "gold farming" accounts.

The trouble is, we don't have much of a choice. Getting levels simply requires tons of raw materials that no legit player is going to farm. It's how rs is built. I currently need 100k pure essence, and that's for just a few rc levels. I'd love to buy them from a legit player, but chances are I'll get them from a bot, or at best, a mercher who got them from a bot/gold farming account. Not sure how it can be helped tbh.

Also found a blue phat yesterday and another blue one today. Just saw them lying around passing by, without hunting for them. On the flip side, got 91 thieving today, not one sceptre yet even though I'm opening all the chests :razz:. (Not that I'm complaining, obviously.)

Weird: how even in the old version of rs with current population also a race to 200m starts... While it wasn't there in the real pre 07 rs. I wonder what made the population change so much over the years.

I've been wondering about this too. The other day, I was trying to explain to a friend the much more casual gaming attitude the general rs population had before the 99 capes came out, but he couldn't really grasp the difference with the current attitude.

The simple fact of the matter is that the 07 players are coming into it with years of rs knowledge and years of changed attitude to the game as well. They were bound to just transpose it to 07. Hell, I'm guilty too, in just a few months I've built an account on 07 that took me like a year back in 2006.

I think it's too bad we didn't get a version of RS from before the 99 capes were introduced. Then again, maybe the 99 and 200m "disease" is so embedded in the players' minds that the absence of capes wouldn't have mattered at this point anyway.

^ That argument can be turned around just as easily. Making pop equipement heavily outclassed by nex gear renders the whole effort a bit... pointless. I don't need the armour to be better than nex's, but I'd like to get *some* use out of it.

Don't get me wrong, I love POP, but I'm not seeing much use in continuing it, aside from the fun part. Not too long from now, when I have all the stories done, all the upgrades and buildings, there will be very little left to draw me to my port. This wasn't a small update to the game: it was highly anticipated, it was well developped, it was one of the few that was received very positively by a player base that usually finds fault in everything... but it'll be dead as can be within months after its release.

I got the "A Song of Ice and Fire" box from Amazon. I'm halfway "A Game of Thrones" now, I'm guessing the next 6 books will keep me busy for a while. I'm loving it, but I've seen the series and seeing its loyalty to the books, I can't wait to move on to the new stuff in the next books.

Well, am I late to this party.

Regarding the "older men" discussion: I dated an older guy over summer. He wasn't that much older, 6 years or so, but he made a rather big deal out of it. In any case, while he may have had the good job and the houses and all that shit, he definitely didn't have it together any more than any guy my own age I've dated. He was terribly insecure, kept worrying about the size of his penis and about me leaving him for a woman, only to eventually break it off because he didn't love me. People tend to be conflicted at any age. They also tend to hope that as they age, they'll gain wisdom and clarity in exchange for losing their youth, but I don't think it really works that way.

Still, I do tend to be attracted to older men. I love a good head of pepper and salt hair on a guy. Sadly, most men lose their hair as they grow older :razz:.

Also, I don't know who said that "older" women who are still single, are single for a reason and should be steered clear of... but I take offense :wink:. Relationships go awry, end,... and not all women can or want to jump from one relationship to another. Especially since we're now able to get the good jobs and the good houses all by ourselves too. But I suppose that some would argue that self-sufficient women should be avoided.

So anyone else going off the bruteforce path to buy upgrades to the port before continuing on?

I'm considering it, as of right now most of my slate missions are 5k+ requirements and I'm lucky if I can get 60-80% on them. I've got a few tier 3 crew members and I'm thinking about going back to skulls to get gun powder and leveling them up.

I'm leaving the hasty path too. I had a good day at the Hook today, completed most missions with ease, got myself a Chimera and a Clansman for each stat. Still, tomorrow I'm waving the Hook (mostly) goodbye and sending the bad-ass team out to get gunpowder and bamboo for all the port upgrades.

I'll be dging mainly for the next few months anyway, so I don't need all the scrolls and the gear and the xp-boosts that urgently anyway. I want to concentrate on building my port and getting the adventurer's stories completed.

i've bought all the gunpowder upgrades for my ships apart from the rudder - will i have to buy the gunpowder rudder before i'll be allowed to buy the slate (or higher) rudder?

i have no need to speed up missions right now and would rather save the gunpowder for port upgrades...


I think you can skip them, but I'm not sure. It might be worth getting the gunpowder rudder anyway. The Hook missions are quite long already, 2 to 3 hours, so spending that bit of gunpowder may be worth it, considering that you'll be wanting your first few hundreds of slate for crew and the bigger ship updates, not for the slate rudder.

Should have results on what the workshop is like tomorrow. Also back to the arc to collect bamboo to buy it. After that I'm camping gunpowder for other rewards. I'm wonder with the way things are would it be more interesting and worthwhile to sweep through and buy everything you can. The other optio would be to keep bruteforcing it like most everyone else.

I'm thinking of doing a few slate missions now to get the resources to buy the upgraded crew and then taking that crew back to the bamboo and gunpowder region to collect resources for the buildings. It's no use training the old crew, I want those newly trained big shots who can then go do the harder slate missions with a bit more ease...

DG bosses are a mess right now. I didn't encounter too many problems with cursebearer on C6 yesterday though, as long as I kept ability spamming.

But I also experienced Thunderous grabbing you without the time to hide. Worst of the crowd: Blink. He's lethal. Downright crazy, which is in keeping with the character they created for him, I guess. He hits for nearly max life points very regularly (here it comes - kapow). He's also glitched: if I tele out while he's stuck at a pillar, he remains there for the rest of the fight, spamming his kapow effect. Only way to get him down is a routine of tele - hit - tele -hit.

As for the usual DG monsters, they hit a bit harder, but are still very easy to take down. They're nowhere near their pre-EOC difficulty.

I used to be very awkward around guys face to face. I just didn't have a clue how to flirt or how to behave around them. Especially the boys I liked.

Now, this is going to sound so lame, but the following method really worked for me. One of my friends was verrrryyy good at this, she just oozed charm and class. So I started observing her to figure out how she did it, listened to her talking to guys... and after a while, I started copying her. To my great astonishment, it worked. I gained the self-confidence I was lacking, which in its turn gave me the necessary oomph to develop my own 'style' and personality instead of being a copy cat.

Maybe you could look for a similar example in your surrounding. I'm not advocating you try to be someone you're not, but I would suggest you develop some 'game' skills, to put it a bit negatively/bluntly. Evidently you have something to work with already, considering that those hidden skills emerge when drunk, now you just need to boost that self-confidence so they're available when you're not inebriated.

Oh god, yes, thank you Jagex.

I understand that those who love DG as a social skill are worried about the update and feel that it may threaten the one skill that's not a grind fest, requires a learning curve etc. But the fact remains that DGing is built more like a minigame than a skill and that it hampers the maxing goals of many a player. I myself am not a team player in RS. I get to work in teams all day long, so when I'm chilling in front of the TV, I like to skill and play RS on my own. DG has been my bane from the start, much as I loved the concept. Teams do and should get better xp than solo, but the solo xp has to at least be acceptable for players such as myself. Up until now, it has been abysmal. DG is one of the reasons why I quit two years ago.

I'm not convinced the changes will be detrimental to the skill either. It'll allow players to get their stats up to a level that makes them good candidates for teams. A good few of the solo'ers who didn't want to touch the skill until now, may join teams and learn the ropes of teaming after reaching 99, e.g. It may bring in new players. If they just double the xp, teams are still worth considering for better xp. Considering the long way to 120, I think many will look into it. Also, the changes will make smaller teams worth it as well, something nobody could possible be against.

ETA: part of my joy is undoubtedly founded in the fact that for once, I get to enjoy the change in a skill BEFORE having it maxed, instead of seeing it made easier after I've already put in all the effort :wink:.
