  1. I average 6-10 clues a week, usually from tasks, and I have yet to get anything remotely good. The last valuable item I had was a robin, which was 2 or 3 years ago >_< I don't even get uncommon junk like trimmed armor and most of my level 3s lately have been sweets and ranged gear. Personally, I don't even bother doing a task if the first clue is a dress up involving items I need to retrieve. I just wait for next clue scroll to drop (and when I have been dropping, at times I've been averaging 2-3 clue scroll drops per task). The one thing I haven't had lately is furniture, which is kinda funny since I was averaging a piece of furniture every other clue back before I took a hiatus from clues.
  2. It always feels very odd when players consider themselves old school and such. I then have to think, since I was playing long before that, what the hell am I? I've been with the game for over 7 years now. I'm 134 (technically, 135 if I ever get around to using my charms or bones for one more level) with a 2100+ ST and eight or nine 99s. Now, because I've been playing that long people view all of those things as being fairly unimpressive :-# So yeah, that's the other end of the spectrum; getting judged on the years despite having most of those 99s and such for years. The other big problem with just being with the game forever is just being used to being great so then you get mildly irked every time the bar is raised and it takes you a while to catch up (such as when any new skill comes out) or admitting that it's really not worth catching up (I was t75 for defense at one point, but I wouldn't try for that now >_>)
  3. Yes, recognition would be a lot more pleasant than fame. Plus the examples in the article basically sucked. -Leaders are famous as well as powerful. -Many famous people are wealthy, which IS power. -JK Rowling has enough money to buy a mercenary army and conquer Canada/Scotland/etc, whereas our Nato general friend doesn't even have full control of his troops (ie, although he "only" reports to the president (which is a democratically elected position), he's not in firm enough standing to take over America let alone half of anywhere else). The whole concept of fame is skewed anyway. There are still many players who could walk by BlueRose or Zezima and not know who they are. Plus you could use a board for several years and not even know the people in charge who moderate all of your posts because they need their little power trips Plus the "Did you know...?" sucked >_>
  4. It's standard metal armor. Why would it have a strength bonus? To make it not suck, possibly? It's not on par with the Neitz helm, beserker, etc. Beyond that, nothing's really standard about dragon armor. Well, at any rate, it's no more standard than 3rd age.
  5. This intended update makes me feel a bit better for getting 90 slaying about six months ago, despite knowing that the bow won't be worth much :-# :-#
  6. Yeah, but why's his exp over a million higher from the time he died?
  7. I recently came across an interesting picture in a topic on another board: Can anybody explain this?
  8. If I honestly believed that there was a better MMO on the market, I'd be playing that instead. WoW is nothing but hype, GW has a nice system in place but nothing really beyond PvP, FFXI isn't great, and you can only play CoH/CoV for so long.
  9. Pricing is largely anecdotal. I'm also not sure if you'd consider the higher costs of fletching materials as inflation or the beginnings of a recession. At any rate, I'm shocked to hear of an increase in the price of yews given that there should still be an ample supply.
  10. I started playing in early 2001, so I would've been 18. I think I was 16 or 17 when I first started playing at the GamesDomain Castle.
  11. Yeah, whenever I make a valid point people would rather call me a troll rather give it serious thought. Right, so it's the best because it has drops; ie, heavily luck-based rewards. Whips are fairly rare for most people . And treasure trails? More luck . Although tasks also involve luck, you can always reassign until you get one you can do more quickly. And yes, I'm also straight melee. "Maniac" isn't casual. He gave those numbers for a "maniac," I argued those were fairly casual. You're now agreeing with me and yet say you're disagreeing.
  12. I'd enjoy seeing you try. The rewards are monster drops and you can get more valuable drops from other non-slayer monsters.
  13. I still want skills that have 100+ opts that you can only reach by potting from 99. I work 9 hours a day with an hour fifteen commute and even I can manage over 2 hours of RS. Get over yourself. And part of it is also training method. I use Duradel because I won't spring for cannonballs. However, a lot of lower tasks can be cannoned quickly. And it's going to take longer if you don't pot during the task. What did that have to do with my point? Oo I was just saying that slaying is the only skill that you don't get exp by exploiting its benefits (unless, of course, you happen to get it as a task--and there a few players who just ditch all non-abby tasks so they can get slaying exp while whip-hunting). Back when I first got 14m defense exp, I was ranked 77. Now, 13m exp later, I'm slipping out of the top200. Everybody I talk to seems to think 92 will be the next high level monster. However, I don't think we'll ever have another slayer monster with a drop that parallels the whip in terms of initial value (back when a whip would regularly sell for over 10m). At any rate, I just slay so I can fight every monster in the game.
  14. 20-25k exp per weekday isn't "like a maniac," neither is 40k exp on a weekend day. The guys who hit it like maniacs are doing much more than that Oo 1. Every skill has a cut-off right after a level. 2. The difference between slaying and every other skill under the sun is that you don't get exp through accessing its rewards. Examples? You need 85 mining to mine rune. However, when you mine rune, you still get exp. When you cut magics, you still get exp. Craft glories or bhides? Still get exp. So the deferential is somewhat larger than slaying, in which you only get exp by taking tasks. And honestly, 85 slaying isn't good money. I wouldn't encourage anybody get it for that.
