  1. I was being a little facetious with the death comment, but still, I don't want to get shocked. I might have found a guy who can help me out (better yet, he'll do it for free). Thanks for all your help, I'll let you know how it goes. :D
  2. I did a little more research, and it seems as though the inverter/backlight costs about $35-70. Pretty reasonable, i also got ahold of HP, and they want $200 to fix it. The small chance of a painful death might just be worth the extra cash :-k
  3. Perhaps the tip.it community can provide assistance where Google has failed... I have an HP DV1000 notebook that I bought about 3 years ago, and is no longer under warranty. Yesterday, the backlight went out and my little chat with customer service provided me with no results other than another number to call (surprise surprise) Glancing at eBay, I see that I can buy a inverter backlight for this model, is that what I'm looking for? How about the actual labor of replacing it? I have a good deal of experience working on desktops, but notebooks are strange waters to me. ANY advice is welcomed with open arms. Thanks, -frau
  4. that has to be the most innovative idea ive heard on these forums in a long, long time
  5. hey great guide. motivated me to get my farming up
  6. Are you right in theory? Absolutely. In practice, however, things get much more complicated. Many people who are clinically depressed and suicidal will rely on no one, and trust no one. They are not attention seekers, on the contrary, they want no one to know. My girlfriend who I've been dating for a year has battled self-mutilation, suicidal thoughts, and depression for the last three years. She has scars up and down her arms from times when she has cut herself just to feel something, anything. She didn't see anything wrong with it, it was just a way of coping with her pain. She flirted with the idea of suicide, but never tried anything serious other that a near-fatal instance of alcohol poisoning. The point I'm trying to make is many of these people will not get professional help because 1) they dont feel they need it 2) they don't want to waste anyones time and 3) its possible that they are suffering from a mental illness that prevents them from thinking logically. What I'm basically trying to say is people need to look at all sides of the story before they judge someone who does something they dont agree with. What are the circumstances, what was he/she going through that caused this to happen? Something like getting scammed might seem trivial to you, but could have a drastically different meaning to them. I've encountered a lot of people who look at depressed individuals and say, "Just get over it already!" It makes my blood boil, after seeing firsthand just what some of these illnesses can do to people, and I just encourage everyone to be a little more sympathetic to their situations. *Steps off soapbox* -Jesse
  7. What right do any of us have to condemn or condone his actions? To an outsider, yes, it may appear to be a selfish act, but to him, his reasons were logical. We don't know just how bad his life was, but it was obviously bad enough to do something drastic. So call him a weakling, call him a coward, call him anything you like, but regardless of how he died, it is still a loss of a HUMAN life. And you with your lofty ideals, would you do so much better in his situation?

  14. When i heard Coldplay for the first time, it was listening to "Yellow" on a Now! album, and i didnt think much of it. Then i borrowed a rush of blood to the head a few months ago, and since then ive gotten evry song theyve ever made. Ive never listened to a band non stop as long as i have with them, so if you havent heard it, go ahead and try it out, it good stuff.
  15. I just bought it today, am listening to it right now, its great, i advise you all to go out and buy it when it comes out in your area. Im sure youre all thinking, hey, this is fake, the CD doesnt come out until the 6th! But lucky me, people who live in Japan get a jump on these things, it came out here on the 1st. Any discussion about the CD is great, as it is released, I'm sure all the Coldplay fans will want to talk about it. Peace... Edited by Pyro: Removed the last line, I'm afraid we've got rules against piracy.
