i much preferred the old graphics to rs2, perhaps there is a magic spell that could shoot a colored blob? Any reference to RS classic would be deserved seeing as they closed it off and there's no way to get back. And a lot of players want proof of when their character was created, at the moment only the first 2000 people to sign up for runescape have any real proof. Jagex used to track how much time you have spent logged in to the game, so they most likely saved when your character was created.

Yuck, I don't like cabbage.
-
meet me in the cabbage patch!

i've got a collage of old players posted on the tip it boards long ago. fook is even on it. is it wise to post pictures of other players?
-
rob became robsimons a couple days later because he forgot his password

before telekinetic grab came out:
varrock bank had a vault in the basement filled with diamonds and stacks of coins but it was locked gate. these diamonds looked like stereotypical cartoon diamonds with the cut that made them large on top and long point underneath.
varrock museum had historical armor behind a fence inside which had names like "helmet of so and so warrior" and "sword of some guy". now i believe its just iron armor if anything.

i remember jagex saying something about classic never getting updates or assistance. not catching autoers could fall under that category if their apathy for classic grew. i dont know if they used to ban autoers.
-
im going to buy members for a month as soon as winter break starts. i'll let you know if you can still get in. i haven't logged into classic since 2005.
otherwise, i cant believe i decided to keep stuff on that account when they rs2 available. i kept 60,000 gold pieces and rune armor there, which is almost as much as i have now on rs2. it would be nice if they let me stick my stuff on rs2 before keeping me from logging in on classic, but then there's probably plenty of players who have autoed stuff that would come too.

does it count if i would declare myself an awesome runner-awayer. i used to love to shoot people with my level 14 range skill, hit nothing, and bolt away laughing. lightning was the only person who ever caught up and killed me.

Here's some pictures that I found. All taken by me. :)
this screen shot was probably taken with [Caution: Jagex Rule Violation]_2!! i remember using that! not only did it have a sweet macro but you could zoom out to view more and remove "fog of war" to remove the blackness of stuff far away. yea i got stat wiped, but i really used [Caution: Jagex Rule Violation]_2 because you could play full screen and zoom out.

when they were making runescape 2, they promised to keep the old runescape for people to play. i just assumed they kept it as runescape classic because of their promise. gowers are nice people.
-
oh yea! they used to keep track of how much time you had spent playing runescape. like instead of level rankings, they had time played ranking. oldmanschild was the first to reach a full day of game play i think.
-
Everdred was the first player to reach level 99 in any skill, it was in woodcutting.
RSC InfoRunescape was opened to the public in january 2001. before that, jagex had a game room with checks, chess, slime wars (my favorite), connect 4, etc. (they took it down a couple of years ago and im still upset they never returned it.)
Here is a map of one of the original planned layout of runescape. atleast i believe it to be, it was posted on the tip.it boards back in 2001 or 2002. i wish i still had the screenshots i saw on here then of runescape as mud game with even simpler graphics than runescape classic.
2. i dont know if the max level was 123, i always assumed it was 99. i guess nobody had their levels high enough to know.
4. If you trained too much, your fatigue reached 100%, you had to go "ingame sleep" until it lowered.this was added feature, was not always there. it certainly wasn't added until after 2003. it started off you had to find a bed and sleep in it, then andrew introduced sleeping bags.
5. Long long ago, there was the black hole. Players who were banned were sent here, you could go and see them. They were inside a fence, like a zoo. It was later deleted after Jagex decided to just keep them banned from the game.there was no fence. it was a black screen. every square was black and you couldnt move anywhere. also, if someone else was sent to the black hole at the same time you were, you would be stuck in the same square in the blackness. later, poeple were trying to get blackholed so they could see it, so jagex added Thurdor's Black Hole in the dwarven mine. He let you go in and gave you a disc of returning for 10gp. once in the hole, you spun the disk and it returned you to the surface.
6. You could duel/stake anyone anywhere. When you died, you only lost your STAKED items and you spawned where you died.this was only in the members version when it opened. it wasnt in the free version. and you respawned in lumbridge. this is why lumbridge was just pretty much duel city for a while.
Stories of how RSC first openedCyberwars closed and moved to the newly created game Runescape. View the 2nd story.
Ive never heard of cyberwars.
Second
When RS was first open to the public, you could attack anyone anywhere except Lumbridge. Only those 5 levels above you and below you were you allowed to attack. You could choose your class: Pker or Non-Pker. Soon after, they were more specified: Warrior, Ranger, Miner, or Adventurer. The Wizard "class" was soon added. After this, many small updates were added. Until the wilderness was first introduced.everyone was pk in the beginning, choosing between non-pk and pk began later. as for choosing specified classes, there was also necromancer. you got a little stat boost in the attributed skill and some items
warrior-wood shield and bronze sword or something and some strength xp or something
rander-range xp and crossbow maybe
miner-miner xp and pick axe
wizard-blue wizard clothes, mind or body runes, and good magic xp
necromancer-black wizard clothes, mind or body runes, and evil magic xp
adventurer-bronze axe and i dont know xp
the xp you recieved, got you to level 2 or 3.
Interesting stuff
in the beginning, you could attack anywhere but lumbridge. the cabbage fields outside of lumbridge were a very popular place to kill unsuspecting new players, it was always a slaughter there. fights back then, you could attack and you could log out in the middle of battle. so it was pretty hard to get killed. plus you could run away after the first hit (later they made it so you had to wait for 3 hits before you could run, which is where poeple came up with the 3 hit kills). people would wait where you logged out for you to come back and youd log in like an hour later and WHAM, you are dead. you lost everything. the bank opened a little later, and it only held gold then, so people mostly kept stuff on mules (characters created to hold stuff).
there was no adamantite in the beginning. it was slowly released piece by piece. same thing with rune after admantite wasn't as amazing anymore -much like dragon armor is doing now (except bluerose13x reached rune smithing and started making rune items before they could really be released. andrew did make it so the rune plate was the reward for dragon quest which was touted by them as the ultimate quest).
red capes added no armor, pretty much useless unless you wanted to get called a noob. some clans wore them to identify themselves in the clan like the razors.
grey capes could be obtained from the highway man, they offered 1 or 2 armor, i cant remember.
then they added the champion's guild which sold blue capes. you could only get in if you had enough quest points. blue capes had one more armor point over grey.
beer could be drunk infinitely to raise your strength to level 99 which was promptly changed after word spread.
there was no buddy list at first, you used to have to type "tell (enter name)" then type your message and it would send to them.
F1 used to be low graphic mode where the runescape screen graphics were reduced 50%. it looked like alternating blacks lines running through the screen but you could still see. it essentially looked like night time.
Al karid was added a week or 2 after the game opened and it was awesome. before that it was just ocean.
other wise
thats wrong it was range that didnt effect combatrange did effect combat at some time. im pretty sure prayer didnt effect it at some time too.

i lost some pumpkins, easter eggs, and 92 disks of returning with that wipe! i bought a 100 discs back when thurdor was around with his black hole cause i have a habit of collecting worthless stuff and then he got deleted. if i had those disks yet, id be rich finally!
you did keep all your quest points, everything else was erased. so i was a level 3 wearing rune plate. there weren't level requirements then, you just needed to have done dragon slayer.
i have some pictures of before and after the event, im guessing it happened on 6-7-03 because one of the pictures is called bank6-7-03 and theres nothing in it.
-
I just say give outrageous prices or be like, " OK OMFGERZ PHAT FOR 1K! I RICH" then decline and sit there and yell at him for declining the trade.
hahah. yea bombard him with trade options and decline as fast as possible or put up a wood shield, mind runes, and wizard hat asking for free stuff plz cuz u just died, people take a long time to figure out you are messing with them.
-
they had a mass wipe for [Caution: Hack-Scam Site] which i was lucky enough to be apart of, they also banned a bunch after the knife bug. they ban poeple, but the mass bannings come after jagex figures out how to catch people abusiung a bug.

rather than update, andrew gower should be taking the day off, play some paintball or maybe slime wars. playing runescape for 5 years is more of an embaressment than something brag about, so im happy to announce ive only been playing for 4 years and 358 days.
-
i used to play slime wars and connect 4 on jagex.com, why did they remove those games years ago and never return them!
-
what happened to planeshift. it was such a big deal for like aweek but it wasnt coming out for like 2 years. that woulda been a year ago. cali sun or super_vegeta or some other tip.it old forum guy used to post it.
edit.
holy [cabbage] its out. haha.

My origional char got stat/item wiped for automining for 2 days (started doing it right before the big wipe, unluky) Was at like 82 mining then -.-. I remember some 1200 or 1300 total skill char got wiped, forgot his name, its on the tip of my tounge but i cant think of it. He was a top 5 overall player.
Heres a funny pic for you all, its not fake either. I logged on one day stranded in the wildy few months after i got my rune. Duno if larges were out at this point, i think they were.
If the file size is too big photobucket gonna auto resize it so it might look crappy.
sunjon got wiped. he was the biggest name. i didnt know anyone else played whom got wiped. i did have the entire list bookmarked and then one day it disappeared. it was awesome cause they ordered it in tot he order you signed up so i was right at the top next to sunjon. thats awesome that you still play. all my friends who used [Caution: Hack-Scam Site], quit after the wipe. i hope you got all your original stats back. im still working on woodcutting and its a [bleep] compared to before they added new trees yet really easy now that wwe dont click each time. was that goblin walking around or was he stuck too?
-
those old graphics are so awesome! i cant take these online role playing games seriously and everyone time id grow bored id just laugh. because look at it! its like a little kid designed it. with blob arrows and all. it was awesome! now the world is dark(seriously there is no brightness in the game now) and fully animated.

Hmm ... :
-tell command , you wrote "tell *playername* *text here*" and it would send a pm.
-Hmm i dont think anyone mentioned it yet ... Could put only up to 65k in a trade ... so if you bought something over 65k you needed to make 2 trades.
hahahaha yea, it wasnt 65,000 flat though. it was like 65,356 or some random number.

I understand fully all
I was one of the first players to play this god forsaken game aswell...
i remmber times were there was only 1 server on this game and it was never above 2000 people
lagged horribly...
and yes i remember the evil cabbage patch in lumby... How many times i was killed by newb killers and who knows what else
i miss those times... runescape was such a different game then than what it is now.
I remember the first drops of items.. and yah knowone even cared about the value of those phats we all just wore them cause it was neat... first drop of rare items.
i also remember feeling a somewhat feeling of richness when i first reached 100k cash... but those days are over...But im still playin
Shout out there for anyone that remembers S H A R K
back then one of the best miner smithers we had in this game
the first rare drop was pumpkins. they werent rare but it was hard to follow the gowers and mods and race against every other person in the game to the spot they dropped it. and telekentic grab didnt help when it came out. 100k is a lot. our clan raised 25k once for the layed owned houses. that was a lot for 6 people to combine. how did you make 100k? i remember s h a r k in the scorpian fjord mining area. i couldnt go down there though, there were scorpians! i thought they poisoned you for the longest time. now they do! i couldnt wait for the camels to let us hold extra items in.

Has anyone heard about the creator Andrew Gower then? I always thought his development of the game was genuine, and I really have enjoyed where he has taken runescape. I would hate to hear he's quasi-pseudo-retiring from making decisions, but I can't blame him either- I would enjoy my millions too.
