  1. Looks like a well thought out and easily usable update...kudos Jagex, now lets watch for the 100 "ZOMG! threads" to appear on the rants by those who find pleasure in standing in banks auto typing
  2. i dont see how this will be relevant to price drops. its a copy and paste of a player owned shop. i think its a great idea, i hate taking time to sell my slayer drops/clue rewards. Thats why i usually sell low and buy high because to me, my time is worth more then trying to hold out for another 100k  now i can allegedly throw it into the GE and keep trainng slayer =D>
  3. sigh how many of these threads can we have? Pick one of the three hundred others about same topic and feel free to reply....IMHO :P
  4. fact: nation wide study conducted in 2005 in the US found that the average age of gamers is 30 yo, and that approx 40% are women. 90% of my friend list is female players, 124+ and all adults. You are not alone, lots of women/girls play, enjoy your game, and ignore the immature children who poke fun out of ignorance of the facts. Peace
  5. started dec 2004, made combat 100 in under 4 months killing trolls, made 123 combat in under 12 months total play time. made 125 in 20 months total play time. Then had to go play in the sand on deployment to Iraq (US Navy) for 8 months with no play time. Back now and playing catch up. Geez my strength rank plummeted from 299 to 798. Now back in the 400s I wouldnt say I am an Old timer, but I play with integrity and high standards. Old timer tipiters probably remember me, I had a few popular threads in the rate this area, "Made 100 in under 4 months"...and "made 123 in under 12 months"...hehe, anyway, happy holidays to all peace
  6. I did not say that anyone who can make money is a cheater, you are taking my words WAY out of context. Your last name isn't Sharpton is it? hehe sry, he is a sorta famous jerk in US who can take anything you say and swing it around on you. No where did I assume only 2-3 ppl can afford p hats...there isn't a phat store.....obviously ppl have them, tons....what I said, if you go back and actually read it, is there are probably 2-3 (maybe a few more), very skilled, experienced, powerful high level stakers who throw money back and forth like they are lobbing tennis balls at each other. THEY can easily make that kind of cash if they are consistent. What I was implying was that the large portion of the "stakers/pures" running around with their 600mil gp headpiece, dancing around the willow trees in draynor, most likely got that kind of cash from less legal means...i.e. rs gold buying. Now the way I presented my opinion might have come across a bit abrasive and assuming, I did not have the time, desire or patience to write a book. so I pounded out a quick reply and moved on. Now that I have had a night to dwell on it, I take most of what I say back, as in hindsight it was written in a moment of annoyance from my two encounters the other evening. I know there are players who enjoy to stake, and that is their prerogative. It was wrong for me to backhand something as significant as this update. Furthermore to shoot the cow to cure it's toothache is a bit extreme, which is what Jagex may have done. Like all things, they will probably adjust soon. As much as I hate cheaters and scammers, to negatively affect thousands to get a few hundred slackers.....is a bit overkill. This coming from a guy who usually gives no quarter, and zero sympathy to slackers, scammers and cheaters. In RS or RL. However, I am man enough to say maybe I had my arrogance/ego cinched up a little high, and made some harsh assumptions which is beneath me. So, I will admit this seems a bit extreme of an update, well intentioned, but extreme. So for all you legit stakers out there, I feel for you. I would be PO'd if they adjusted my slayer exp rate from the deplorable hourly rate that it is now, and took away half of it to prevent some kind of perceived issue. I still believe that RWIT brings an exorbiant amount of cash into the game at the click of a player, who then has billions to throw at coveted items, thus increasing their "value". I feel that if RWIT/RS gold buying did not exist, those items would be valued at a significantly lower number. There, done, said my piece, moving on. have a great day, I just got assigned another 196 abbies, so I am gonna go do those and pocket another whip hopefully.
  7. QFT. I've had a level 120+ person ask me where Varrock was. I've seen a level 112 ask how you win in Castle Wars. Idiots existed before PC, but when those idiots went to PC, they came out as "high level idiots." It's disgusting. Ok, maybe the 120+ who asked where Varrock was was an idiot, but what if the level 112 didn't play minigames often? Or had quit for a long time and forgot how to play? Or what if they were simply a NEW MEMBER? You can't call them an idiot just because they don't know something that you assumed was common knowledge. This happened to me the other night. BY the way, I was 124 before PC came out. I checked out PC for a few nights, tired of it, and went back to slaying. I have been playing for 3 years, however, I have never pked (I have buried a few though) never staked, dueled, have played cw a few times, I only have 201 quest points, and there are areas of the game, besides what I just mentioned, that I haven't a clue about. However, I do have 142 mil exp, am pretty efficient on some skills as indicated by my stats, and relatively unexpereinced in some others. I play my game the way I want. Just because I am 125, doesnt mean I have to be a walking tour guide for RS, nor does it mean I know everything within the game. anyway, I was just finishing up taking a month off from slayer to wc (just got 96 woot) and a fellow wcer told me about the barbarian spot. So I left to go check it out. I rubbed my games, walked up to two wilow cutters, and politely asked, "hey guys, where is the bank for this area? I was told there is one".....the lev 89 or so says "ROFL, omfg, its inside the building there, deposit box".....then he says to the other wcer, "geez, hi lev pc noobs these days...bloody shame". Now my blood pressure sky rocketed as I checked my uber-experienced RS player on the high scores, to find out he had 40% of my exp, junk stats over all, and I am the "inexperienced" hi-lev noob. See what assumptions get you? Just like assuming that lev 5 wcer is a bot, then you check his stats, and he has 7 99s. So rather then getting to know me for a min or two, he decided to insult me. Being the "A" type personality that I am, I went into a verbal back hand on him for about 30 mins, as we exchanged words while wcing. Beneath me really, but he had me PO'd. I hate when ppl assume things. I made 100 combat in under 4 months, and 123 in under 12 months total play time....on trolls. boring but effective. When I hit 123, there might be one other "hi-lev" in Edge at the bank...Now that PC is out, we stand 8 deep at each counter. but to call me inexperienced merely because I hadn't bothered to wc at barbarians before..... :anxious: anyway I digress.
  8. Oh, I don't like pures either, and that's coming from a former hardcore pker. Most of them are arrogant little twirps with an arrogance that would put Alec Baldwin to shame. Still, that doesn't play much into this update. This doesn't only affect x p00nzor3z x, it affects each and every player that has ever used the Duel Arena. You say you don't like the ranting - sure, nobody likes meaningless rants like "oh em gee, I have to take .7 of a second longer to craft my nature runes!". This isn't one of those. This isn't some minor update that at the very best forces people to spend a marginal amount of extra time doing their favorite activity. This completely and totally destroyed an entire segment of RuneScape. If next week Jagex were to decide that woodcutting was too much of a benefit for autoers, and made every tree in the game uncuttable, would you say that all the people that woodcut shouldn't be angry? Heck, I'd be po'd, and I never woodcut. The only difference between that and this update is that this isn't woodcutting. This is pvp. Surely that's not enough of a difference to change anything, even if it does make str31001 angry. Well said actually, perhaps I was a bit harsh in my quick slam of the rioting. You make a great point, and do so with style, if I do say so. I am man enough to say I might have jumped to conclusions, wouldnt be the first time my type "A" personality has made me eat my foot, probably not my last either hehe  peace
  9. There is another way to resolve it which is very simple... Just do so that only people within 10 Combat levels of each other can stake each other -.- Since 95% (or more) of all real world item traders are Combat level 3. I've posted this solution many times, I gotta admit. No, that doesn't work. You don't know the exact levels of real-world traders (as it was implied earlier, a level 50-something could have done it too), so it would only create more fodder for players to complain with. @Lordkrohn: We're both on the same page of why we don't like players buying gold. I just don't believe that "most" players buy their gold online. Not unless I can see some hard evidence. fair enough, however I think I meant to say that a large percentage of the uber rich, probably have....like the guy with the 750 mil with junk stats laughing about how rich he is....although you are correct I feel in that to paint a wide swath of "majority buy online" would be false. I give you that :) peace
  10. Read: "We declared war on RWIT". They are not targetting the source anyway. The source is described in the RWIT article I have written, which you can find in my sig. The source is the ridiculous massive grinding required in these games. Jagex still hasn't learned a bit. I've said it on another thread about the duel change already: if they actually have the guts, Jagex is going to take away player to player trading in their holy crusade against RWIT. Trading will be replaced by the GE in that case. So if communist Jagex is serious, you better hold you breath... They are willing to destroy their whole game over a non-issue. Good call. Jagex themself even forgot about this game being about fun - as have most people. Well I went and read your "editorial"...interesting, wrong in my opinion, but interesting perception. You know probably half of the players are children, most of which can probably barely afford the $5 USD, let alone buy RS gold, while others could buy it easily...thus that is why it is unfair. To have a player spend copious amounts of time and energy to build their character, then watch some dweeb run by wearing 700 million....or be owned in the wild by a over financed and built "pure"...kinda makes him/her not want to play....understand? I am a 39 yo US Naval Officer who makes the equivalent of $42 an hour, with a careerist wife and 4 kids....affording rs gold would be easy, I have the monthly rs fee in my pocket in spare change....wouldnt be very fair now would it if I bought 40 billion in rs gold and bought up every rare just to drive up prices or walk around with every item in the game instantly available to me, when you are standing beside me working away at your being able to buy a full rune set...who would want to play THAT game? no one...and the game would fail. That is one of the reasons why I think it should remain illegal. Off topic: woot, just got whip number 60 to drop dances*
  11. What do we lose? our cash....wonder why the Dragon Ful helm is around 50 mil? because ppl have it and are willing to spend it, because they have more money then brains, and most bought it from cheat sites. I refuse to believe you can legitamently make 1 billion gp with a character who has 500 total stats.....I could care less about paper hats, but look at the prices....585+ mil for the highest one.....come on....RL gp buying is the reason. They ARE hurting the legit players.... If by 'cash' you mean the $5-65 you spent on membership this month/year, then that cash was as good as spent anyway. Even if you didn't buy RuneScape membership with it, you most certainly could have bought something else, either something you wanted or needed as an adult. If by 'cash' you mean your RuneScape GP, then your current example doesn't exactly back that theory up well. The Dragon Full Helmet is so expensive because it's hard to get the resources to fight Mithril Dragons and get them as a drop (or get chewed bones for a drop). The reason that partyhats are so expensive is because of their rarity; their prices have been going up and up and up since 2002, and that's honestly the nature of a rare item. By the way, you claim that someone that buys a Dragon Full Helmet has 'more money than brains' and got their money from a RS gold site. Are you calling people cheaters without any proof? And we're talking players with 1875+ total here. I can buy the DFH, 50 mil isn't an unachievable amount with a decent character, especially with high slayer. I prefer to get it like the rest of my outfits....from a drop. I am fully aware of how much of a pain miths are to kill, i just spent 2 hours a night for 2 weeks there, no drop. The price of "rares" has jumped up rocket fast in the last year and half.....right around the time when all those extra rs gold sites sprung up...do the math. By the way, I said "most", since you had a hard time seeing that, I bolded it for you. It doesn't take a lot of intelligence to see the correlation between rare prices, god items and the influx of gold from illegal means. As a legit player, I am not hurting for cash with the amount of drops I have gotten from slayer.......but I can not, nor would I, buy a paper hat for 600 million gp....you could "stake" everyday for a year and not make 600 million in MOST circumstances....I am not saying it is impossible, just improbable. One or two very skilled hi-lev players...sure, but there is so much gold floating around...I am sick of seeing the prices double every 3 months, and lev 60s sporting their "I got 4 p-hat sets and no stats to speak of".....cheaters...plain and simple..makes me nauseous. One or two great hi stakers....buyable, but 2 or 3 players couldnt drive up the prices of all rares and god items to the level it is today...that is from the uber rich nubs who buy it online....I had a lev 58, with laughable stats, trade me and put up 750 mil yesterday at draynor.....and listened while he bragged to everyone how he was uber rich and had gotten it from a "secret technique"....ya real secret....internet search...rs gold, click
  12. The Duel Arena Update Quick find code: 27-28-630-54011496 : page 378 Makes sense to me...now the hard part will be getting the 12 yos to understand the logic :-k What do we lose? our cash....wonder why the Dragon Ful helm is around 50 mil? because ppl have it and are willing to spend it, because they have more money then brains, and most bought it from cheat sites. I refuse to believe you can legitamently make 1 billion gp with a character who has 500 total stats.....I could care less about paper hats, but look at the prices....585+ mil for the highest one.....come on....RL gp buying is the reason. Look at the god sword prices. They ARE hurting the legit players.... I have 59 whip and 14 dark bows dropped and sold to date....96 mage all from alching the logs I cut to maximize profit....I make my money legit, and I can not even think about affording the God armors, swords, DFH...etc....ridiculous, THEY ARE ruining the game. Of course from your perspective, it "isn't" a problem. I won't even get into an integrity discussion, we all know that isn't a concept 95% of RS players understand. Yes it is a game, but it is being played with real people, who have real life time invested, and are emotionally connected in various levels with their characters...so cheating does matter. Anything they can do to prevent RL gold buying, and prevent bots, I am in full support of.
  13. *waves* hey M8 I am with you, I don't stake, so my opinion is moot, but I don't hink they went out of the way to "ruin the game".
  14. =D> These are the type of responses to the vast majority of Jagex's updates that always amuse me....."ZOMG I don't like the update, you better change it or we are ALL gonna quit!".......right.....allow me to show you the door, there you go M8, carry your lil behind right on over to another game, one less over-dramatic whiner clogging up the game....heres a tip, a lot of players love the game, enjoy dedicating years to developing their character, and I would dare say, it would take a lot, to make us quit. Now for the garden variety nub who has a "main" (lev 58) and a "staker" (lev 34)....who whine and flop about every little thing, threaten to quit when the latest update wasn't catered to their lev 65 pker, staker slacker...etc, we are better off without you. Go ahead and quit, people are signing up everyday, it is a constant turn over...no worries m8, I have a sinking suspicion Jagex will be just fine. They have the top 200,000 players who are dedicated, to keep them going. I could care less if they doubled, tripled or quadrupled the monthly fee, it's just pocket change afterall. Maybe they should, that will keep the riffraff out of the game...go play F2P. you can join the "why can't we get MORE for free?" protests in Lumbry. meh Wow. I would have expected a better response from you. I really don't care if you never stake or pk - it doesn't matter. Anybody can see that this update is [bleep] up beyond belief. A 3k max on a stake that decreases...any way you put it, this qualifies for the worst update in RuneScape history. It serves no purpose. Does nothing but screw up a major section of the game. RWT? -.- Joke. All they have to do is droptrade or find some other way to transfer. Sure, there are always idiots that cry "waaa...you have to take .5 of a second longer to cross the ditch when runecrafting, I'm quitting". This isn't some stupid ditch or some assist system. This isn't some minor thing that some generic kid uses to get attention in some rants forum. And yes, if this one isn't corrected, it WILL screw Jagex, because besides a few idiots that dislike pvp so much that they ignore common sense just for a chance to bash staking, you aren't going to find any supporters for this update. You will find a good chunk of the pvp sector dropping off, though. Get your head out of your [wagon] next time, ok? Oh I agree with you that it seems to be a blow against pures/stakers. I just can't stand the pking staking pures who build their character in under 3 months (I was a well balanced 100 combat in under 4 months, I am sure it sure doesnt take much effort to build a pure when concentrating/training on 2 stats) then run around thinking they are the combat beast pker because they can own a lev 30,40,50,60 balanced player. These are the ones who talk the most smack. I never shove my meager stats down ppls throats until they have annoyed me with their bragging. so....take one part long day at work, with way to many idiotic meetings, mix in a dislike for pker/staker pures, add a healthy dose of ridiculous "rioting" about the new update and finish it with the usual 100 threads whining about it. That is the recipe to my barbed reply, not an excuse, just an explanation  Now, everyone has the right to blow off a little steam, thats what the rants forums are for....rant away....but riot and threaten to quit? Feel free. The less people clogging up the servers the better.
  15. hmm well I have an average of 450 or ea (super attk, str def pots) and back when i was training melee, I was always potting. Still not sure as it seems like a waste for a temp 5% gain....which is what?....one point higher damage...oh well, I guess I wil do a test soon, thanks all

  18. 4 p hat sets?......m'kay. Possible I guess, even with such low stats. Yes, I know you don't need stats to have had a "main" or to build cash. But I would think you would have had to do something to develop a base cash amount in order to buy the things to merchant.....but then again, what do I know, I have never merchanted. Phats are not my thing, to each their own......pic please? hehe Not to be a cynic, but anyone can put on their siggie, "Owner of 4 p hat sets, I have 80 billion gp!...etc". I have a "look at me" line in my siggie as well, but mine is believable due to 90+ slayer, and having camped at abbies for a year straight, seen by many. was just curious. On topic: I would suspect if you could stomach being there that long rangin, you would get several visages. Think about it, people had it the first day it was released....random like everything else. good luck M8
  19. hiya, I have decided to push for 99 slayer, having camped long enough at abbies and dark beasts. I always slay with black mask if I am meleeing, which is 95% of time. I know that adds 15% to attk and str on the assigned monsters. The question I have is: How beneficial is it to pot with super attk/str while wearing the mask? Obviously it would temporarily add an additonal 5%. But the stat drops quickly from 118, and I am wondering if I am just wasting pots for a very temporary gain in atk/str. besides stating the obvious, has any high level slayers done any testing analyzing of this? Just curious....thanks :) wish me luck
  20. oh no, another idiotic mass gathering of "protestors" who think they will change the world by linkng arms and ranting aloud. Send a tactfully articulated suggestion in the official forums, maybe that may get your point across better then screaming in fally or where ever the dweebs gathered this time.....sad...really. Never staked or dueled, so I could care less. I support their wanting to do so, to each their own and all that....but to stage a "protest"? rofl...lame
  21. rofl, I was just slaying my last iron for assignment, and disconnected. I had prayer on, but I was letting it dwindle down because I knew this was last monster, and would repray enroute to shilo *huggz khramja gloves*....I am sweating pretty hard now....hope I am not a pile in the dungeon....omg...the thought alone sickens me lol
  22. one; this one, I don't pk, so have no need to ever do another. Don't understand why you would need 10 accounts, but to each their own. PEACE
  23. Look, this is not a book containing a fictional story based on RuneScape or something like that. It's a practical how-to-play guide. Your ridiculous comment makes as much sense as a tobacco company claiming that they're selling cigarettes and lighters to kids and telling them how to use the lighters, but "oh no, we're not saying that they should smoke, no sirree". (Why are so many people around here so desperate to defend what is clearly indefensible behavior on the part of Jagex? Is the company really that successful with its implicit brainwashing program? Or do folks just need to feel like Jagex can do no wrong because it makes them feel uncomfortable to have to deal with difficult issues?) Edit: Thanks Pauly, and nice to "see" you again. Okay a few facts: I am 39yo, active duty US Naval Officer who has been serving for 22 years (joined at 17yo), wife is a 3rd grade exceptional student teacher....we both play, 2 of our 4 kids play. At my wife's school at the book fair, they have this book, she bought it to bring home and show me. It is in my lap at this moment. Copyrighted © 2006 by Jagex Limited First printing Sept 2006. What this has to do with school books I am not aware of. But it is in the book fair. On the back cover it also has the Copyright of 2006 Jagex. So as Qeltar stated, this is a book being sold in the US at Elementary schools. I don't have a problem with my kids playing, I teach them what to do and not do, and monitor as neccessary. but I think Mr Qeltar has some very valid points. It is clear he wrote the original article in the "heat of the moment" and I have been guilty of that over time as well  But the game IS marketed at children, and tons of very young kids play and tons of adults play as well. (another flame war in itself) Yes kiddies, we played the first few video games, enjoyed them, and continue to do so as adults. 2005 US study showed average gamer is 30 yo, not 12 like you think. Approx 40% are female as well. So it is very possible that the player who just slapped your player to the ground like a bag of trash could very well be your friends mom. Think about that for a moment...hehe Anyway, I understand where Mr Qeltar is coming from. I dont think it is the end of the world, but it is definately something parents need to know in order to make an informed decision on what their children are potentially getting involved with. Of course nothing stops them from clicking away at the library. Peace
  24. just ignore em. Lots of things in life and in game become annoying, you'll become stressed out worrying about every little thing around you.
  25. ya, and they just redid it to...should be dark and ominous in my opinion
