what about wearing iron full helms and sheilds

ok i turned my mage file into a mage/melee i curently have 1 def i was wondering if wearing iron chainmail would give me a disadvantedge if a mage attacked me i know tha its i disadvantedge to my mage but i always could take it of but when im melee what would be the best armour to wear without getting owned be mages or should i just wear mage robes like i am and keep my def lvl1

my str and stt is lvl 45 and 35 so if i wanted to raise my mage or ranger does it lvl up your cmbt lvl ? or does it only start lvl u after your att lvl or somthing like that?

prayer is bad? cuz my prayer lvl is also lvl 22

my att is 35 my str is 45 and my def is 22 i know thats its bad to raise your def to much but will my guy ever be good enough to kill pures in the wild?
