hmm, try making it two colors instead of one? By that i dont mean making one side blue, and the other shift into some other color.

If you're using PS then don't do Ctrl + U to colour, do Ctrl + B, Colour Balance. You can get a much better sig instead of one plain colour, you can get a good blend of colours after a bit o' pratice.
