Supposedly, the scarab boss at the end isn't really resistant to all forms of melee. According to Jagex's questhelp system, it's weak to stab attacks as well as magic.

 

Another thing to add-

 

Kaleef's body can be used as a safespot, so that the scarab will not summon the melee attacker, and it attacks with ranged. If a safespot is used, protect from magic or ranged is useful, depending on the armor that was brought along.
