Player Moderators: Too Much Power?

Through my experience in the game, I've never seen a P-mod abuse his/her powers. I used to be friends with a fair amount of P-mods, and a few of them I still keep in contact with. I'm sure Jagex let the odd 'bad-seed' into the Moderating team, since anyone can act like a good-person ingame, but in the end, Jagex would never really know until that person randomly goes around abusing their powers. I know Jagex take their real-life information, but unless they've seent hat person in real life and seen what they are like, I guess they'll never be sure.

I'm pretty sure Jagex state that they look over every action taken by a P-mod & F-mod, so surely if they are unfairly muting people etc. then they will be found out and have some type of disciplinary action taken against them. And I always thought that Player Mods have 48 hour mutes. (Just asked one on MSN and they stated that they can only give 48 hour mutes).
