May 7, 200917 yr ok, its not a RS related piece, but i think it is very good. a short story. [hide=]He sits on a crate of ammunition. Hes shivering. He must be cold; his uniform is drenched, both from the rain and the blood of his fallen comrades. He takes out a cigarette. He attempts to light it, but his tries are futile. Its far too wet, and the match wont catch fire. I take out a fresh, dry box from my pocket, strike a match, shield it from the rain with my hand and light the reefer between his lips. He takes a few puffs, then sighs. Hes only been here for two weeks, nothing compared to my two months. Yet he has seen enough. Hes only 20, too young to hold a Mauser, less shoot and kill a stranger with it. Hes a good soldier; smart, cunning, and resourceful. He knows where to find cover while fighting in the boondocks between the two trenches. He knows how to use leftover gun powder to make a pineapple out of a stale potato. But what good are those abilities if youre always ankle deep in mud, watching your comrades, your friends, your enemies, not much older than you, get their faces ripped apart by shrapnel from shells. Get their limbs blasted off by grenades. No amount of survival skill can teach you how to cope with that. Hes sitting on that crate of ammunition still. A lieutenant walks over, motions for him to rise, and opens the crate with a rusty, dated crowbar. Funny how thousands of men due to the fat needles in this coffin of sorts. A coffin that sends others to rest in coffins. The lieutenant says something to both of us. We check our ammunition and attempt to dry our weapons with our already waterlogged sleeves. A fruitless effort. I prepare to leave. He lingers behind for a while. Then he moves, takes file next to me, and we join a band of brothers, all headed to the same breach. The abyss where many go, and only a handful return. But it is our duty. We march, the distant rumbles of artillery fire like a drum beating out commands. Commands to march to our graves. He says that he wants to go back and sit on that ammunition crate again. He doesnt want to fight anymore. I tell him that after the battle, he can sit on all the ammunition crates he wants. He replies, Ill probably be lying in one by then.[/hide] i can add to it, if you wish. just leave comments on what could be added to should be taken out. ty ~ 3,072nd to 99 Mining on August 30th, 2009 ~~ 112,084th to 99 Magic on April 16th, 2011 ~~ 131,681st to 99 Crafting on March 29, 2019 ~~ 178,385th to 99 Prayer on April 2, 2019 ~~ 234,921st to 99 Defence on May 9, 2019 ~~ 173,480th to 99 Herblore on June 21, 2019 ~~ 155,160th to 99 Smithing on July 16, 2019 ~
May 26, 200917 yr Not sure about a reefer...and towards the end it seems confused between coffins and bullets....I assume you don't mean putting people in ammo boxes, because it doesn't seem likely that you would go up to retrieve the bodies, just to put them in boxes. It has a strong start though, and is very dark thoughout, really gripping the feeling of war. More work perhaps is required to let everyone see what you see though, because you make referance to making pineapples...Now I know that a pineapple is a grenade, but I also know that they only came in during the second world war. The things you are talking about would be a Mills Bomb(looks alot like a pineapple) or a Jam Tin Grenade(Guess how you make that...) so maybe it needs more work than just listing his abilities. I don't know, give and take. http://www.uzzisoft..../archimage.jpegWell I knew you wouldn't agree. I know how you hate facing facts.

I think reefer is slang (very old) for cigarette (from dictionary.com :D ) yea I thinknsome things are a little shaky. the pineapple thing is the wrong time period, thanks for pointing that out :wall: I'll revise it when I have time, look for a new copy with maybe more info in a month ~ 3,072nd to 99 Mining on August 30th, 2009 ~~ 112,084th to 99 Magic on April 16th, 2011 ~~ 131,681st to 99 Crafting on March 29, 2019 ~~ 178,385th to 99 Prayer on April 2, 2019 ~~ 234,921st to 99 Defence on May 9, 2019 ~~ 173,480th to 99 Herblore on June 21, 2019 ~~ 155,160th to 99 Smithing on July 16, 2019 ~
