This is a stupid question but on photoshop how do you add a shaded area as seen on the pic below?

Easy, get your rectangular tool, stretch it across your pic, so that it makes the area selected (Make sure on a new layer), then fill with blk and lower opacity....

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

As for the inner text, rasterize it, select it, then move to your "band" layer, press 'delete', then delete your rasterized text layer, fill with blk again and lower ITS opacit to something even lower than the band...

P.S. There may be other ways to acomplish this, but that one is a for sure worker...
