I've been trying for ages to stop pop ups and flash banners but no programs i get seem to help at all. I also tried making a userContent.css file with some script in it and i dont think i did it write because im still getting he sa,e ads and pop ups.

Can someone make some sujestions as to what programs are good, or help me troubleshoot if i've done this file wrong?

I saved it in C:\program files\mozilla firefox\chrome\userContent.css

and copied it straight from http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/adblock.html

Thanks in advance

Firefox should block all popups automatically. Could you please link to a site where you're experiencing popups?

If you seem to get them at random, it may be that you have some spyware/adware installed on your pc. Please download Ad-Aware SE (google for it) and run a full scan. Then download hijackthis (google again) click run a scan and save a logfile and then copy and paste the log to here.

To block flash ads, a useful extension is Flashblock - it replaces all flash content with a clickable button which you can click if it's something you want to see. It also allows you to whitelist sites which you don't want to block flash on (if for example, you enjoy watching flash movies or something.)

If you must block all ads, go no further than the Adblock extension. However you should note that many websites are supported by revenue from ads (including tip.it!) You should consider this carefully before you block all the ads on the site. Perhaps just blocking intrusive ads like popups and flash ads is enough? If everyone blocked all the ads on that site, then the webmaster might be forced to close it.

Oh and by the way, the usercontent.css file needs to go in your profile folder. If you're using Windows XP, that's at C:\Documents and Settings\%yourusername\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles\8charndm.%profilename\Chrome (note that 8charndm is an eight character random string.) If you're using another operating system, here's instructiosn for finding your profile folder.
