RSCArchive

Tynarus

Recommended Posts

I'm currently putting together an archive of the RuneScape classic website from bits and pieces I can gather from around the internet, including the wayback machine. Most of the site will be from around 2003, with some exceptions. This is to give a little nostalgia to those of you who played when this website was up and to give those who haven't a taste of what it was like.

The archive can be found here:

http://www.rscarchive.org/

It's not a 100% remake of the website itself, as the HTML and CSS for it has been redone for improvement and legal purposes. All text-based content and images on the website belong to Jagex limited, though the copyright for the HTML and CSS markup on it belong to Tynarus.

Eventually static parts of the website will function as they did in the past. Ie. login, news, customer support, forums, etc...

Feel free to make page requests here or send me an email at [email protected]. Thanks. :)

The website looks really good!

Just wondering, I thought you couldn't view old rs website via the wayback machine, how'd you manage to do that?

They did remove RuneScape.com from the wayback machine sadly, I only managed to get a few things off of it before they took it off last year. :(

But you can still view everything up through most of 2003 via runescape.co.uk, runescape.org, and runescape.net. Now they all have javascript on them that will try and redirect you to runescape.com, so you have to disable javascript on your browser before viewing any actual pages.

It's a long, drawn-out, and very annoying process, but it does work. Sadly everything past 2003 is still gone though. :(

Final version is a long way away I'd say. :P I have other website projects, college to sign up for, and other things as well.

I added most of the membership benefits pages the other day, as well as the customer support page, though none of the pages stemming off of that yet seeing as most of them require a login. Due to that I've started making a registration system so users will be able to test out and see those customer support pages when they're done, as well as use the forums. :D

As for the green "Tynarus" bar I added to the main page, Jagex did have the same thing later on in 2003. Though theirs was a blue one with a "Jagex" logo and 2 advertisements as opposed to my green one with a "Tynarus" logo and a little navigation bar. Here's a picture of it:

Thank you. :) The site may be offline for a bit later today and/or early tomorrow if I end up switching to a paid web host later like I plan on doing. After that the uptime should be well improved and the "secure" sections of the website will actually be secured using SSL. Bear in mind I'm not doing all of this just for the RSC archive, but for my main website. The archive just happens to be able to tag along. :P

We're currently in the process of switching not only our web hosting but the domain name that the archive will be hosted on as well.

Once everything is done pending and the website re-uploaded the archive's new URL will be http://www.rscarchive.org/

The website may be down anywhere from 12 to 24 hours from the time of this post, sorry for any inconvenience.
