I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I dig giant robots.

The Giant F***ing Mech genre is one that hasn't seen a good entry in a while. There was Armored Core V, but I never saw it as a game I could just pick up and play. The graphics were substandard, the gameplay had a difficulty brought on by unintuitive controls rather than design, and I don't think it really had the 'heart' of the genre pinned down. Mech Warrior: Vengeance was a solid title, as far as I can recall, but twelve years can do a number on even the best of games. The new Mech Warrior Online allegedly comes out later this year, but it faced delays in the past and may well again.

Then comes Hawken. The release date is set for the 12th of this December, it's free to play, and... Well, just take a look at the video. It's gorgeous. I've heard the gameplay previews have gone pretty smoothly as well. Altogether, it looks like this might be a new spark for the Mech genre, and I for one can't way to try it out.
