Combat level skills

Featured Replies

Combat level: 24

 - 10 Attack

 - 40 Strength

 - 3 Defence

 - 2 Range & Mage

I am new to RS3, but have worked out that upon reaching certain combat levels, it is definitely worth raising the others (defence and such) as once your combat level is at a certain value, it won't raise anymore despite training other skills.

With this in mind.. I need to think smartly about how to create my pure and was wondering firstly if anyone had any tips (I want mainly strength pure), but also where is the best place for 40-60+ strength?

I have been training on Level 1 Troll Tuckers in Burthope so far (40 exp per kill, each kill takes one hit, usually 10 in one room at a time) it's very fast, but at around 40 strength I believe that there are quicker areas - but I need your guys help as to where these places are!?

(Baring in mind that I am currently on, and for the foreseeable future will be on F2P)

Thanks in advance,

Deliaaaf.

Hill giants and then (once you are strong enough) deadly red spiders are good training methods.  The hill giants are in a shack west of Varrock west bank.  You'll need a brass key to access it, which I recommend just buying from the Grand Exchange.

Also keep in mind that the combat level formula has now been updated, so raising pretty much any stat will raise your combat level.  The only exception is for offensive stats in different categories.  For example, if you have a high Strength and Attack level but a lower Magic level, you may be able to level magic some number of times without increasing your combat level.

For a full explanation of how combat levels work and the formula for it, you can refer here.

So I can actually stick with 3 defence and face people in the wilderness having a fair chance?

I only ask because; I thought that with the new system, someone of the same-ish combat level as me could have the same offensive stats (attack, strength, range, mage  whatever) but have much higher defence than me due to the new system where raising defence after a certain combat level means you can max it out.

If that's the case - I can actually re-create a 3 defence strength pure! (with some range and mage, which would be sweeeeeeeet!)

That's right, you could have similar combats with higher offensive stats but lower defense.  I'm not terribly familiar with pking on either Legacy or EoC, so someone else will have to provide more info on that.

Was there any reason for level 3 defense instead of 1, or perhaps just an accident?  I'm curious :P.

Did a quest by accident that gave me EXP for level 2 defence, range and mage.

Although; there is a defensive ability at level 3 which is useful, and having 3 defence doesn't raise my combat too much so hey-ho!
