Jagex CEO and CTO Mark Gerhard is leaving the RuneScape developer at the end of the year.

He will work at the Cambridge-based studio until the end of the year to help with the transition, with a replacement CEO to be announced "in the near future".

Gerhard has been CTO for Jagex since he joined in 2008, adding CEO to his role a year later. He has assisted the studio expand its portfolio as well as enhance its flagship title RuneScape.

"It has been an amazing seven years and I am proud to be a part of the great company Jagex is today," he said. "It is never easy to say goodbye, but I believe I am leaving the company well positioned for the future, in good hands and with a deep bench of talented people as I move on to new challenges."

Jagex shareholder and board member Jeff Horing added: "It's been a pleasure to work with Mark and see first-hand his commitment to Jagex. He has been a guiding hand through a changing landscape and helped take the company to the next level. We wish him every success in his future endeavours."

So it's finally happening. Thoughts on the new CEO Replacement possibility and direction Runescape will go?
