I'm not sure if anyone can help me with this because no one I've asked so far has encountered this before and searches online do not reveal any solutions.

Today I tried to use my dvd RW drive to copy some files onto a blank DVD, but whenever I dragged a file into the window, an error message appeared saying that there was an error in copying that particular file. It turns out that my blank disk was displayed as having:

Free space: 0 bytes

Used space: 0 bytes

This has never happened to me before. I tried multiple disks from two brand name manufacturers and encountered the same exact problem.

However, when I use a DVD burning software like nero, the blank disks are recognized and can be used to burn entire DVD's. It is only when I try to drag single files directly onto a blank disk that I encounter a problem.

No current version of Windows has built-in support for DVD burning, which is why you're having to use programs like Nero, DeepBurner, etc, to do it.

Having said that, current versions of Nero come with a program called InCD which will allow you to use Windows Explorer as (I assume) you're trying to, although it will only work with rewritable media.
