dogfever
Its impossible to say exactly because hits are not of constant value, therefore xp per arrow is not constant, likewise if you pick up your arrows the number you will lose will vary. If you make some approximations then Goobore's method will give you a reasonable answer: http://forum.tip.it/viewtopic.php?t=434814 df
henk333
Its impossible to say exactly because hits are not of constant value, therefore xp per arrow is not constant, likewise if you pick up your arrows the number you will lose will vary. I disagree with the bold part because I allways watch how much arrows I shoot and pick up, over longer periods at a time. For example when I range Firegiants I bring 5k iron knives and pick them up for the entire duration of my slayer task, but keep them in my inventory. So at the end of my task I check how many knives I threw (5000-the number I have wielded) and how many are in my inventory. I've done this for both arrows and knives and find that both have an 80% return rate. So when you shoot 1000 of them you get 800 back. As a rough estimate for xp per arrow I did a similar thing when I was 56 range. I measured my xp gain while shooting 1000 iron arrows, picking them up, shooting, untill the whole 1k was gone. That got me 54k xp, which is 54 xp per arrow or an average damage of 12.5. That is quite a high number, but it makes sense since you use your arrows more then once. Theoretically your 3800 iron arrows should give you 205k range xp (3800*54=205200) Haven't played RuneScape since 12 january 2007 and it feels great :)
dogfever
I agree with you, my statement was misleading. I don't know exactly how JaGex calculates arrow loss, I would imagine, like most of these things there is a discrete probability of losing an arrow when it is shot, e.g. 0.2 as suggested by your experience. It is however unlikely that you will lose every fifth arrow, more that you stand a 20% chance of losing any arrow shot. Therefore for smaller numbers of arrows shot the actual number lost is likely to deviate significantly from the mean. However, over larger numbers of shots (like your 5000) the number lost will eventually stabalise at the mean. Although I do concede your point given the number of shots donut was talking about. I stand corrected :D df
