i have a candle stick but stravan says well, in all honesty you did'nt steal it yourself and you do not qualify as a member unless you steal iy yourself

You actually have to do that part of the quest in order to get the armband. You can just have someone give you the candlestick without helping your partner to steal the candlestick.
