standby---?!?

i leave my computer on for the whole day to avoid having to start it over and over and to save power consumption i tried to use standby

 

it worked but i couldnt get the computer back to its original screen

 

i tried moving the mouse, pressed space bar, pressed power button, pressed every key on keyboard and took the power cable out and put it in again(which obviously didnt work)

 

can someone tell me whats wrong

 

 

 

i have windows xp proffesional running on a dell optiplex gx110

i went to power options(didnt think of it before) and fixed it, it now responds when i move the mouse
