So starting tomorrow, we kick off band season with our first performance and the rest of the week and continuing on till December is going to be insanely hectic!

Let's start off with tomorrow, shall we?

Wednesday: Band Extravaganza

Urgh, I hate Extravaganza! Here's the rundown, we get out of school at 2:40 (as opposed to the usual time of 3:30 where band practice usually extends to, today we get out with the rest of the school). Our call time is to be there at 5. It isn't worth going home for barely two hours, so me and a few friends and maybe my girlfriend (if her parents let her, they're very strict) will stay after school and hang out. Let me get a little off topic here and describe the process of staying after schoo. My band director leaves about 30 minutes after school/band ends depending on when we get out, and he locks up the band room, which is essentially the haven of all band kids (pretty much our second home), until he returns. We have one extremely stealthy person stay after (usually the same guy, Cody). and he hides in the Bari sax locker (ITS HUGE!) in the locker room while the band director locks up and shuts off the lights, etc. A few minutes later he'll come out and let us into the band room. We then hang out in there, go into the locker room and watch a movie or something (we have a hole int he wall that we run extension cords through). We have to be pretty quiet usually because the janitor comes and cleans randomly, and we either get a really cool dude who doesn't care or this [bleep] who kicks us out every time. So yeah, we either end up doing this or we walk down to the local plaza and grab some food and hang out.

So, back on to Extravaganza, yes?

We get into uniforms and go there, the middle schools play some lame songs, and then all of us high schools march our shows, basically showing off what we've done this year. It's utterly pointless and just gives bragging rights. Last year, a school by ours, North High, announced that they were taking a trip to China what must have been five times, it became a band meme, so to call it, after that.

Thursday: Thursday Night Rehearsal

Oh yes, Thursday Night Rehearsals! These are actually quite fun, and many many adventures come from these. To name a few, i've gotten flipped off by a radical Christian girl of about 5 years old, we stole a homeless mans sign (which now lies in the trophy case in a high spot of honor, with our championship plaques), i've puked my brains out all over a security guard who threatened to kick us out of the plaza, and had an epic hula hoop battle which ended with a friend of mine getting some hand injuries. And that's just this year so far!

Basically, we get out at 2:40 after having two band periods to do homework in (cause the rest of our night is gone to band, so we have now to do homework.) We show up at 6 and have rehearsal to 9, although its usually pretty fun. Same shenanigans as usually ensue in waiting time, none of us usually end up going home. Plus during rehearsal our really cool instructor comes and we end up usually spending the first half of it playing team-building games and having section march-offs and drill-downs.

Friday: Football Game :(

Eww, football games! I really dont need to go too much into detail here. Same shenanigans ensue until call time at around 5, and then we go to the game. oh wait, there is something I can add! On the way to these things, we have "Silent bus" where we are supposed to not talk and think about the coming performance (either halftime for games or the actually performance for field shows). Well last year, a friend of mine Marc sat to another, Matt "hey, what if you just shouted something reeeeally loud right now?" and without missing a beat he yells out "WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?", and we're on my band directors bus! Well he stops the bus and comes back to "investigate" which means walking down the aisle looking for someone looking guilty. Now this guy Cody (the sneaky guy) is sitting there completely out of his uniform listening to music with his girlfriend lying on top of him. The band director just stared at him as he slowly got back dressed and put away his iPod :XD:

Saturday: First Field Show! (Competition for Marching Band)

Oh, I love field shows!! Here's the rundown: we ge out to school at about 2pm ish and rehearse for 2 hours or so. then we go to the band room where all the band mommies provide us with food and soda<3:. We chill for a while, get dressed, and have a long [wagon] bus ride over to the school where we'll have the competition (usually an hour away or so.) It is supposed to be silent bus, but it's only enforced on my band directors bus (he gets on the first one, we have 4.) Last year every once in a while i would end up on bus 1 cause seats got taken quick (we got dismissed by class, I was a sophomore.) But this year i dont, im a junior, and my girlfriend who is a senior saves me a seat :) . So we get to do whatever for a bus ride the whole way there (trust me, band bus rides never have a dull moment on them.) Then we warm up for an hour or two and then perform, which is always a blast!! We then head into the stands for watching the rest of the bands perform, wait 30 minutes or so, and then have a long awards ceremony before a long [wagon] bus ride home. We end up getting home at like 1am usually. Field shows are so amazing!

tl;dr, i'm essentially living at my school from tomorrow till Sunday, in a nutshell.

Only difference from last year is, this time I have a girlfriend there with me the whole time :twss:

So i'll probably post a new blog after these band things go down, and to tell of the epic adventure im sure to have on Thursday!

Until next time, thanks for reading :D
