I heard that you can do the recipe for disaster quest with an over grown cat the part where you get hell-cat. Can you use an overgrown cat? I read that you cannot but I wanted to make sure Thanks

I'm In the City where the quest takes place, but am I allowed to get out once I'm in there and come back and will the quest be the same as when I left it? I have no food and afraid I'm going to die if I don't get some. Thanks
