What's the point of keeping them once you have the hat and the outfit?

I've been trying to finish this quest for awhile, but I can't get past the part where the Vampire Juvinates attack you on the way to the temple. I know there is supposed to be a spot where you can stand where they won't attack the guy (forgot his name), so you can kill them all. I can't figure it out. There seem to be places that would work, but i can't get him in position before he gets attacked. Any ideas? Help would be appreciated!

I'm at the end of the grand tree quest fighting the demon. I'm ranging him from behind the rocks, and after shooting about 100 arrows at him and killing him halfway, he goes *poof*! He just disappears. This has happened three times. Its pretty irritataing. Am I just taking too long to kill him? Has this happened to anyone else? Suggestions? Thanks for reading.
