  1. Hiya everyone!

My name is Devoted12 and I've played Runescape since Runescape classic (though on a different account). In about 2006 or so I created Devoted12 and then joined the Tip.It Forums! I was a moderator here for a year and two and have always really enjoyed the community. I decided that I'd like to play Runescape here and there when I have some free time yet again, and look forward to seeing some old friends. Feel free to message me if you remember me so we can catch up!

  2. I'm happy to see this game still going!

I don't have the time to play anymore, unfortunately, but it's fun every now and again to hop on and looks at all those TIFers I knew in the past still getting spotted. It's a shame that most of the more legendary members of my time don't seem to play anymore.

Keep taking those pictures and having fun, after all, that's the point of the game - fun!

To those of you who know me, message me, it'd be fun to catch up! :)

  3. Construction is by far the fastest, so I'd go with that.

(480k xp when using sc hammeres, not counting time to acquire hammers, compared to like 100k smithing xp when making addy arrowtips).

I don't get why you want a 99 that requires sc hammers when you totally hate that minigame though.

Thanks for all the help thus far. I am just playing SC lately, so I still have some time to make up my mind.

As for SC, I don't want to waste money if I can save it for nearly the same xp rate. I don't full hate the game, I just find it boring, so I get tired of it fast, but it's not like it is unbearable... I can work through it, ha.

Take a break then. :P To be sure, the minigame (and game as a whole) was made for entertainment. While achieving goals is fun in its own right, if you are getting tired of something you should be entitled to take a short break, am I right?

You are right, but I get tired after the first game. I usually just have a little time to play one or two games a night as I am extremely busy, so that is definitely bearable. It would be different if I was playing 4 hours a day, I would definitely take a break in that case. :D

Henry: Thanks for your input. As for your strategy, thanks for sharing! I tend to only play in fastsc because I find that more fun and it also means more tools, but I will try that out if/when I don't play fastsc. :D

  5. I like the look and emote of smithing cape better. They're both respected in my opinion. Oh, and for SC, try joining the cc SC Claymates. The games are fast since it's non combat.

Thanks for the responses thus far, and yes, I join fastsc usually, but I may try that out as well.

  6. I am looking to go out and spend some of my cash, but I also have to get all the sc hammers for the skill, which stinks.

Anyways, I am trying to decide between 99 Smithing and 99 Construction. They both fall in relatively the same price range. Which cape do you think is better, which emote, and which is more respected?

I am going to be busy the next couple of weeks so I guess I will devote that time to playing sc. (I hate that game)

Thanks for the help ahead of time.

  7. Does this work on a macbook? See, because it is a laptop, you don't have the keys on the right, and the regular numeral keys do not work with mouse keys turned on. What buttons do you use? I know that 7, 8, 9 and a couple letter move the mouse, but they don't move the mouse enough for it to be efficient. You literally have to hold the button down, and a regular mouse would be much more efficient. I know you have no experience with this, Wakka, but I was hoping someone may have been able to solve this problem on their macbook.
I'm not sure what your trying to say. If you are referring to the mac mouse that is a single click, yes you'll want to get one that has right and left click. the ctrl key on a PC is the modifier key that allows the mousekeys to function, if you don't hold it down the number keys should still type numbers. All I did with my keyboard is relocate some of the keys on the normal keyboard to a spot that was more easily accessible for me to use. It can still be done on all computers.

I understand what you did on your keyboard, and on my mac laptop, I have a two click mouse. My problem is that since it is a laptop, the keys you would normally use for mousekeys, on a regular PC, are on the right side of the keyboard. On a laptop, these buttons do not exist, there are only the numeral keys that are above the letters on the keyboard. When I turn on mousekeys, and hit control on any of those numbers, there is no reaction. I read in earlier posts that you have to hit the fn button, which I did. When doing that, the 7, 8, and 9 button move the mouse, but not in the method you described. It moves the mouse ever so slow, therefore it is not efficient. I tried to hit every single key, and none of them really seemed to skip to the right spots, like described, they just slowly move the mouse.

Has anyone encountered this and know how to make mousekeys work on a macbook laptop?

  9. Well the SC tool is really a little crystal thing you can buy after getting some reward points at the stealing creation minigame. You can transform the seed into a hammer, needle, butterfly net, harpoon, pickaxe, hatchet, and something else I'm forgetting. These tools give double the experience when used to skill with.

Basically, in an effort to maximize my inventory space, while not having to bank to get more tools, i keep one hammer in my inventory, and the other tool i just make a wield-able tool, and wield it. When the charge on your first hammer runs out, you can take off the tool wielded, revert it, and transform it into another tool, without using any charge.

XP/Hr is about 80-100k, depending on how attentive you are, how quickly you can restock ore into the furnace, and how good of a team there is at blast furnace.

Ok, I definitely understand now. The hammer can take more than one form. And the xp per hour is excellent. I remember I had a method which was extremely fast xp for the furnace, so I am sure I will be able to be attentive and maximize xp per hour.

I really appreciate all your help and congrats again on such a wonderful 99! :D

  10. I don't quite understand why people complain when I would like a toggle option to turn make x off. I do not complain if people take the easy way out, that is their choice. For instance, if the toggle option were available, I would probably keep it on for cooking and skills such as that, because I find them a little relaxing every now and then, but I do think it should be the players choice to hurt their wrist if they wish to gain more xp per hour. But what would it hurt you to make the option up to the player? And I remember in the old days, when you didn't like to do a skill, the solution was that you just didn't train it. Now-a-days, when people don't like a skill, they get make x on it making it afkable. I don't see the fun in that at all. If I am going to take time out of my day, I would like to actually play they game rather than look at the screen every minute to see if my make x is done and I need to click again.

  11. Congrats!

One question, though. How did you do the blast furnace? What was your method for using SC hammers in there?

I would take a random amount of money (500k or so) 2k Mith ore, 4k Coal, and two proto tools.

One tool was the hammer, the other tool was just any wield-able tool. You wield the tool and when hammer runs out, take it off revert then transform it again.

The hammers each last for about 81k at blast furnace (because of smelting xp)

    Try it out its good.

Can you clarify on the part about taking the wieldable tool off and then having it revert to transform again? Sorry, I do not know how these SC tools work, so I am just trying to figure the thing all out. I just came back after a bit of a break!

And how much xp per hour with hammers did you get at blast furnace? I do remember I had a lot of fun at Blast Furnace, but I am unsure of the XP I got per hour. I do remember that it was a little bit profitable.

  12. There's a line between working hard, and just ridiculous. I am very glad they implemented offer X, even if I am losing a bit of time. And I don't agree with people who say that clicking repetitively counts as "working hard", it's more of a test of endurance in my eyes.

Maybe they should have a feature that allows you to turn off the "X" features if you don't want to use them. That way, everyone is happy

I would say it takes a lot more discipline in order to do tedious skills rather than to hit make x and just sit there. That was the point I as trying to make. I do believe that they should have an option to turn off make X. I believe that if a person wants to do tedious skills in a tedious method, they should gain more xp and that should be their option.

  13. I am personally sick of all the Make X options being added. It seems the whole game is no longer a game of skill, but a game of who can sit at the computer longest.

I am sorry, but I would rather have the Make X option removed on numerous things, such as cut x at barbarian fishing, make x for fletch, burn x for bones, etc.

Slows it down for those who are willing to work hard in the game.

  14. I'm not saying it's easier. Just for some people. If you can buyout like 10,000 of the same item and sell it at a higher price in a few days, you can make loads of GP with not much effort.

The fact that the skill CAN be buy-able takes away some of it's credit from me. Some people have crazy ways of making loads of money, and can blow it all on expensive furniture over and over. You can't do anything like that with Runecrafting.

To each their own, I guess. I am not arguing that it may be possible to merchant. I used to be fairly good at merchanting and could make good money with the early GE. I am not sure if this is still possible, but you must remember there is risk in that as well. As quickly as you can make it, you can lose it, and it has happened a fair amount of times to a lot of people I know.

I have respect for anyone with a buyable skill because I know you had to work hard OR take a lot of risks to get where you are. Usually, you have to be smart and good at what you do to get money in this game, and for that, I think the player should be commended. BUT, we all have our own opinions and our own definitions of a commendable skill.

  15. About time you posted again on your massively popular thread.

    That should be stickied...

Haha, sorry I have been inactive. I try to get back into the game and just become extremely busy and am forced to quit. I think I should be coming a bit more active now, but we will see.

And I agree, I believe it should be stickied. It is still fun, however, to see that the TIFers are able to keep it bumped and at 130+ pages, so I guess they don't see the point if it remains on the front page.

  16. Construction can be easily bought.

With all the tens of millions of GP that you and everyone else has laying around? :P The difficulty in skills like construction, prayer, herblore, etc., isn't in the leveling process but in making the money, which is no easy feat for the average player.

Once you have a lot of money, it's easier to make more, like merchanting on the GE. But yes that's also true. I just feel sympathy for the boringness of Runecrafting :/

Why do people always make assumptions such as this? If 99 Construction is so easy to buy, then why do you not have it? I never quite understand that. It is EXTREMELY tough to make the money for those skills. I do not know if it has become easier, but I know when Tripsis went for the expensive skills, it cost her millions upon millions. She had to Runecraft for numerous hours in order to make that money. Maybe the skill itself is easy, but it's not like some players are just blessed and out of tutorial island they just receive 500M on the ground to pay for the buyables, they ALL have to work hard for their money, and for that, they should be commended. Once again, I challenge you, if it is SO easy, then you should go ahead and get it. It can't be that hard according to your logic!

  17. Man, spotted again :S

I don't think GE is a safespot, but it is looked down upon I hear :P

I'm not sure if I ever actually made it against the rules, but the problem was that most of the pictures were in the GE, so I do think it was a looked down upon picture to be taken. It takes away the fun if it is in the GE. It is more fun to find people elsewhere anyways!
