I've always found this speech stuff kind of interesting. So you prepare these big speeches on a topic given to you, and whoever gives the best speech wins? Because that's the exact kind of assignment in school that I loathed. Again, interesting. It's kind of like that. However, we get to pick our own speeches. Probably the most best explanation: There's two categories of events, platforms and interps. Platforms are what you would think of as a speech. We pick a topic, and we either write an entertainment(a funny speech with no factual merit), an informative(Informs, rather than persuades, about a topic), or an oratory(Persuades, rather than informs, about a topic). Then we get together and give the speeches, and get judged on who gives the most natural presentation with the best written speech and maybe the best visual aids depending on your event. There are also Extemps. They're more like what you described - they get given a topic about some modern political issue, and they're given a half hour to write a speech about it and present it. It's a different kind of speech, and it's usually not counted alongside the others. Then there are interps. These are more like mini-plays or acting skits than speeches. You don't write your own stuff, you find or put together a script and give an interpretation of that. There's HI (Humorous Interp, primarily funny), DI (Dramatic Interp, usually monologues about sad events (like rape)), and Poetry (Several different poems with a common theme put together and delivered.). The winners of these events are the ones who have the best characters, the best pops, and the best readings. Most people do these events, rather than platforms. As a subset of interps, there's the two group events, duo and OID. Both of these can be either funny or serious, depending on what script you choose. Duo/duet is what it sounds like - 2 people interping a script together. The difference between duo and duet is that one of them allows the speakers to touch, and the other doesn't. OID, on the hand, is a group of people. 3-5 people are in an OID team, and they interp their script together. Touching isn't allowed in this event at all. Both events are judged on the same things as the solo interps, but the judge will also look at how well the group works together, which can be a blessing and a curse. Speech kids don't get together so much for the speech giving, though that can be fun sometimes, especially if you're in a good entertainment round, but instead they do speech because it's fun and classy. Speech kids wear suits. That makes us pro. Edit: Most best. Wow my brain is fried tonight. I kept writing right instead of write too. >.< I actually read all of that. Is it like a class dedicated to giving speeches? No, it's an extracurricular.

Well, one hour of cutting later, and I got rid of a quarter of a page. Awesome.

Hey, pie, you're the right guy for this job! Or anyone really. I need 3 random things that go together in a funny way.- Last one to post wins
"In fact, while we sleep, our mind not only rejuvenates itself, but it also strengthens the mental connections in the brain, which is why it's better to study a little every night rather than all night right before the test." Read that, was like, "[bleep]. I should be studying for the tests I'm going to fail tomorrow." God damnit.- Last one to post wins

That's a terrible idea. For one, to cut a minute and a half off my speech, I would have to be talking about one and a half times as fast. For two, talking fast in speech is a surefire way to get last. 90% of the time, the super-speed speaker gets last.- Last one to post wins
I wish I had that problem. I only have that problem when I have a small page limit. The time limit's 8 minutes. Right now, I'm at 9:48. If the time limit were 10, I would be able to hit it every time, because that's about how long I write. @Goon: Not for a class, otherwise I might consider it.- Last one to post wins
I need to cut a full [bleep]ing page from my speech. God damnit. I have nothing I want to cut. Nothing.- Last one to post wins
Huh. Killer's right. It doesn't happen when I click Full editor so I can post. What did we discover this time?- Last one to post wins
Eh, tbh, most people don't even make it through college. It's not as big a deal as everyone makes it out to be. It's nice, but not absolutely necessary.- Last one to post wins
No matter what, when you go to college you're going to be spending a ridiculous amount of money. Also >using loans to pay for college http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svwGRJA28lY I'm fairly certain you can't get through 6 years of college on scholarships. My sister-in-law's a vet. She ended up going to school 7+ years (She lost some because the original college she went to dropped the program). She has $200,000 in debt. However, she had some extremely nice scholarships and that kind of stuff, and her parents are relatively rich. So that's only what she paid. On the other hand, my brother went through college with no debt at all. In fact, the only reason he did have any loans to pay off after college was because he bought a car so he could visit my sister-in-law after she moved to a college 2 states away. He went to school 4 years for his bachelor's in Electrical Engineering.- Last one to post wins
Working at a zoo would be infinitely better than working as a vet unless you legitimately enjoy science and such.- Last one to post wins
Vet jobs are horrible if the only reason you're getting into them is that you like animals. There has to be more reason than that. Especially considering you end up with a shit ton of debt because of loans to get through too many years of college.- Last one to post wins

@Halo: No, but he speaks Spanish and isn't Mexican. Therefore, Spaniard. Besides, I like Spain more than South America. No offense to South America.- Last one to post wins

No, Napalm's the only one. Pepsi's Mexican.- Last one to post wins
Aww, no Spaniards on tonight.- Last one to post wins
You actually spent money to see that? Yes. It was on opening day. I regret it immensely. Dylan liked it. I wanted to punch him in the face.- Last one to post wins
Avatar the last airbender is amazing. I very much enjoyed it. The movie, however, made me want to gouge my eyes out.- Last one to post wins
