I have a puzzle box, have all but the last two rows, had it done all but switching 2 peices!! Can't do it. Can somebody please help me!!!

I am stuck on the ratcatchers quest. I can get to the second floor landing, and then I can't get down stairs, the guards turn around when i pass them. Can anyone help?

I have a map clue, it is the one that is on the way to mort'ton, southwest of the fishing spots, well, there is no place from the gate to mort'ton that looks like the map, I have spent the last 2 days walking the entire area. Can anyone tell me if somehow the game details have changed? How do I find out where to dig?
