  16. Hello all, and welcome to Head Cheff's cooking class! In here I will try to cover the following, [1] What to wear [2] The Basics of cooking [3] Mid Level cooking 20-25+ [4] High level F2P 40-50+ [5] High level P2P 40-50+ [6]High level P2P Alternatives! [7] The cost [8] Places to cook [9] Equipment [10] The cooking guild! [11] Tips and tricks [12] Quests [13] Acknowledgments First off, here are some Tip.it guides that might come is useful! - cooking guide - fishing guide - woodcutting guide - firemaking guide - Cooking guild guide - shop database What to wear [hide=] All us top chefs wear chefs hats and aprons, so as to keep our food germ free! The white gloves pictured here are cooking gauntlets (P2P) and will be mentioned later on in the lesson, the boots are desert boots and along with the glory (P2P) and legends cape (P2P) just complete the cooking outfit. If you do become a true master of the skill then the cooking skill cape (P2P) can also be worn but again this is mentioned later on in the lesson! NOTE: this has no effect on your cooking ability, its just for fun.[/hide] In the beginning - The Basics of cooking [hide=]Cooking food in Runescape is vital for survival, raw food has no use apart from being a raw material (no pun intended!) however cooked it can save our lives! When food is cooked it can be eaten to heal health! As a rule of thumb, the higher the level to cook the more health the food will heal and the more it will sell for. The best way to start your runescape cooking career is by completing the cook's assistant quest, the guide for that can be found here. After completing this quest you will be quickly shot to 300 cooking xp and level 4, well on your way to mastering the skill! Once you have done this I suggest heading over to the lumbridge cow fields! Make sure to take with you any armour and weapons you want, as well as a tinder box and a woodcutting axe. Here's where the cow field is located. You have to options, either kill the cows yourself, or just walk around and pick up raw meat that other cow hunters leave on the ground! Once you have the meat the next thing to do is actually cook it! Use your axe on a tree and obtain some logs (woodcutting guide) and then use your tinder box on it (firemaking guide) When you advance a cooking level you will see and image appear that looks like this... This is a congratulatory message from jagex and also tells you what level you have advanced to, if you then click on the cooking icon on your stats table and it will tell you what is available to cook at your new level, and also how much xp till you next level! An alternative to raw meat involves fish, a food source you will be seeing a lot of in the future! Grab yourself a fishing rod and some bait and F2P players head over to Draynor village, and P2P chefs get yourselves over to catherby! At this level I think your best of getting a full inventory of raw fish, and cooking it straight away to get up those levels nice and quickly! You can then bank this food and use it for valuable combat training later on in the game. At these locations you will catch Sardine and herring, you will however need level 5 cooking to cook herring. Dont be upset if you burn a few of these, as I said earlier the higher level the fish the harder it is to cook. Draynor fishing Keep going with one of theses methods until you hit around 20-25 cooking, you will notice the higher level you become the less food you burn! Once you reach 20-25 please take a look at mid level cooking![/hide] The long road ahead - Mid Level cooking 20-25+ [hide=]Rite then, so you have the basics! Now its time to branch out from cow meat a little bit. The remainder of our cooking (especially F2P) revolves around fish, so again you have the choice, you can either catch it yourself and make some tasty gee-pee's whilst cooking tasty fish, or you can buy the raw fish and just bank them, however this way will lose a little bit of money. If you plan to catch the fish these are the places I would recommend getting hold of a fly fishing rob, a bunch of feathers and heading of to either The first is lumbridge, here you can catch both salmon and trout, cook them using the trees behind you and then bank them in the lumbridge bank. Alternatively you can use the chefs stove in lumbridge castle (providing you have done the cooks assistant quest) or just bank them raw and cook them later at one of the above spots. lumbridge fishing The second place is Barbarian village; this works exactly the same as lumbridge, you can catch salmon and trout here, and you can either cook them on the logs behind, use the range in the house just west of the Edgeville bank or alternatively just bank them! Barbarian village fishing Now then, unfortunately level 50, although numerically is half way we still have a long way to go! However your now ready for the high level sections, this is where it changes between F2P and P2P, so please pick yours![/hide] The rest of the journey! High level F2P 40-50+ [hide=]Right then! Now we have a decent cooking level of say around 50-55?! Now we have bigger fish to fry (bad dum tshh) Tuna to be precise! Again you can either catch these yourself or just buy them and cook them. The only place to catch then F2P is on karmajan so its quite a treck to the bank, so it may be very time consuming! If you do plan to catch these, I think its best to bank raw and after you have caught say 500-1000 tunas cook them at on of the places mentioned in the places to cook section. The same also applies to the later used fish which are lobsters and swordfish. So I would recommend if you have the spare cash to buy them raw, cook them and sell them on! This way you only lose a small amount of money but the time you save more than makes up for it! Here are the levels recommended for each fish Tuna until level 70-74 Lobsters until 85-90 Swordfish from 85-99 Karmajan fishing These levels have been set out so you burn as few as possible therefore dont lose too much money! Good luck with the cooking F2Pers, dont forget to check out the laces to cook and tips and tricks sections for more ideas![/hide] The rest of the journey! High level P2P 40-50+ [hide=]Ok then members, first things first, cooking gauntlets are VERY useful! They are obtained by doing the Family Crest Quest. Again our main focus is on fish! The best way remains the same as F2P with a slight difference, instead of swordfish I would use sharks, and maybe get some monk fish in there as well! Personally Im cooking lobsters until level 85 and then moving onto monkfish then sharks, but this is really a thing of preference and depends on how much money you have. The best place for a member to catch any of these fish is in Catherby (unless of course you are in the fishing guild), banking raw and cooking later is a quicker method than walking to the range in the north of catherby to cook then bank, but this does break up the routine a little bit so keeps you going. The levels I would recommend are Tuna until 60-65 Lobsters until 85-90 monkfish until 85-95 Sharks from 95-99 These levels are based on you having cooking gauntlets, if you dont you will find you will burn more, so it would be best to work to the top of the level range rather than the bottom. Catherby fishing Guild fishing [/hide] High level P2P Alternatives! [hide=]A cheaper alternative to this, and if you get bored of standing in one place all the time then why not try curries? If you have a cooking level of 60+ (the higher the better) then check out this great guide written by Matok! "Curry - One Bilion Indians Can't Be Wrong". Another method used by high level P2P players is using pizza, deep in the wilderness there is a shop called 'Tony's Pizza bases', as the name suggests Tony sells pizza bases, the great thing is it has a tomato spawn, a cheese spawn and a net fishing spot for anchovies, perfect or what?! If it wasnt for the revenants and other players yes it would be! But if you wish to brave it then it is very good xp, and the foods not bad either![/url]"[/hide] The cost [hide=]Now unfortunatly if you wish to buy your way to 99 it will cost you money, because so many people do this the cost of raw ingredients is higher than their sale value. This means us cooks normally get a net loss which does add up. Here i have tried to work out and average of what it will cost, i have not factored in burns yet, but i have rounded up the numbers to the nearest 10k so there is a little bit of le-way! Each price is based on the mid level GE price so you may lose more or less depending on how you buy them. I used the mid range of the levels i gave in the respected section. (GE prices were correct on 08/11/08) KEY: Raw Price - Cooked Price F2P Tuna until level 70-74 Lobsters until 85-90 Swordfish from 85-99 50-72 = 7,980 Tuna | 124 gp - 108 gp | 130k 72-88 = 29,055 Lobsters | 351 gp - 293 gp | 1.7mil 88-99 = 61,777 Swordfish | 474 gp - 420 gp | 3.35mil Average Total loss of = 5.2mil P2P I am assuming you are using gaunts, otherwise the levels would be slightly higher... Tuna until 60-65 Lobsters until 85-90 monkfish until 85-95 Sharks from 95-99 50-63 = 2,673 Tuna | 124 gp - 108 gp | 45k 93-87 = 30,031 lobsters | 351 gp - 293 gp | 1.8mil 87-95 = 31,996 Monkfish | 402 gp - 362 gp | 1.3mil 95-99 = 20,300 shark | 1,079 gp - 987 gp | 1.9mil Average total loss of = 5mil As you can see, 5mil may seem a lot, but for a 99 skill and that elusive cape its definatly worth it![/hide] Places to cook [hide=]The best places to cook banked food in F2P are either the Grand exchange (Varrock), or in at the bounty hunter arena (wilderness, members can teleport here with an games necklace). Both of these places have the same merits, they both have banks and they are both outside so you dont have to leave the bank to light a fire! The difference is at the GE there are always lots of people so if you fancy a chat to keep you amused this is the spot for you! Otherwise id suggest BH as there will rarely be anybody there (especially if your not on a BH world) so you can get down to some series cooking! For members there are two more places, obviously the above two still apply but there also two more! The first is shantys chest (Al Kharid), this is the chest used in most of the desert quests and is very useful for a nice secluded cooking spot out of the wild! But my friends I can do you one better than starting your own fire, down in the depths of The Rouges Den (Burnthorpe, p2p) There is not only a bank but there is a constantly lit fire next to it! This frees up the tinderbox and log space allowing you to cook to more lobs a load, and saves time on lighting the fires making it by far the most time efficient spot! Grand exchange cooking Bounty Hunter cooking Rouges Den cooking Al Kharid cooking Do you have varrock armour level3? if so take a look at this! A great place to cook if you have varrock armour level 3 is the cooking guild! Not only does the armour count as entry so you dont need a chefs hat (although they are pretty trendy!) It also gives you acces to the guilds bank! This provides a great mix between the excellent resources of the guild and the convenience of a close bank! This allows you to cook all the things you dont see around so much such as a tasty apple pie, or a nice jug of wine! Cooking guild cooking For more info on the guild please see this guides cooking guild section, or alternativly for a much more comprehensive guide to the please click here.[/hide] Equipment [hide=]The main piece of equipment you will need is raw food! However you may also need tools to cook it and catch it. So here's a list of the following All Raw food Tinderbox Hatchet Low level Armour and weapon for cow killing Fishing rod and bait Mid level Fly fishing rod and feathers High level Harpoon (F2P) Barb tailed harpoon (P2P) this is wieldable so frees up an inventory space! Lobster pot (F2P+P2P) Of course not all this has to be on you at one time e.g. if you were not going to cook your fish there would be not point carrying around a tinderbox as it just takes up space![/hide] The cooks guild! [hide=]The cooks guild is a haven for all us cooks! located west of warrock (just south west of the GE) it provides pretty much all the things a chef could need! To gain entry to the guild you must have the following... - 32+ cooking - a white chefs hat The guild contains a range of ingredients, a mill, a range and the all important Head Chef (no not me, im spelt with double 'f'). Hes the man to talk to about the cooking skill cape. This is the cape given to all those who have reached 99 cooking! for more information on skill capes, please click here. If you want to see a video of the emote that the cooking cape enables please click here. If you are lucky enough to have completed the varrock Achievement Diary then the varrock level 3 armour can be used to gain entry to the guild insted of a hat, on completing the hard part of the diary you also gain access to the bank within in the guild! For a much more comprehensive guide to the cooks guild please click here.[/hide] Tips and tricks [hide=]- After completing the Cooks assistant quest you have access to his range, it is the best range in all of the land so when using this range your chance of burning is slightly decreased! Best range in the land! - Cooking gauntlets obtained in the family crest quest also greatly reduce your chance of burning food, this is why for members they are highly recommended! - If you have a full inventory of the same food, right click and click on cook all then you can get up the tip.it forums or something like that and read whilst your character cooks for you, this relieves any boredom so keeps you going! - Racing a friend can also provide motivation to achieve your goal, either this or trying to obtain enough cash for a certain item! - Setting small obtainable goals such as multiples of 5 and every time you reach one of those goals take a small break and do something in or out of game that you really enjoy! - Click on the cooking icon on your stats page will give you a list of what food is available to cook at what level! -.- - The closest range to bank is Al Kharid and the benefit of this is it doesn't have a closing door/gate, meaning you wont have to stop to open it! - Having your first bank slots like this like this will make cooking from your bank quicker as you will not have to keep changing tabs! And allows you to get an inventory like this... Which means you can light the logs, and cook all allowing for quick xp and also allows you to do something else to remove boredom! - Tip.It do a great range of dynamic signatures, why not get a cooking experiance one? [/hide] Quests [hide=]There are plenty of quests that can give great cooking xp, they also provide a welcome break from the same task! To see a list of them why not check out the Knowledge base on the Runescape website by clicking here[/hide] Acknowledgments [hide=]I would like to give thanks to the following people for helping in this guide...! - for information and some images - for free image hosting. 17. Hey all, Head Cheff here! Im tryng to put together a cooking guide for the AoW as it seems a bit weak in that area, so im wondering if you guys can all input your tips and tricks?! (you will be credited) im trying to make it f2p and p2p, with both cheap maybe even money making methods aswell as expensive quick methods! All help will be greatly appreciated! i will post a link here to the beggining of the thread shortly! Thanks, Head Cheff!
  18. Hey guys, i just re-joined members and need a decent place to train strength! my ststas are below and i will be wearing drag med, rune plate, drag legs, drag boots and gloves, drag scim, a drag square, obby cape and amulet of glory! any help is greatly appreciated!!
  19. whats a gs? that me being stupid? havnt been a member for a while  is a whip a bad idea then?!? and thanks i will get on the training! any recomendations for placesto train?!
  20. ok guys with the addition of the new PvP worlds i would love to make my main into a decent pkr, what should i do? andwhat should i wear?! i plan to make him members...!
  21. i still have my main account, head cheff is his name, i made him because back when i first sstarted playing me and my friend spent ages in the lumbridge cow fields cooking on his account and loved it! i still play him sometimes, but im at uni now so have less time to play hense lava harry my pkr was born! I started head back before members before fatigue - i miss the old game i really do!
  22. yeh i plan to stay 40 attack, whats a brine sabre? havnt been members for a looooong time?!# EDIT: just used that snazzy compare item thing in the item database, i will buy a brine sabre, cheers!!
  23. As Im sure you have all seen PvP worlds have been released! I logged on today to check it out, and the slaughter was endless, there were bones everywhere! It seems people really like this update. Hopefully it will calm down in a few weeks time as I found myself constantly being kicked by people with nothing but food whose obvious aim was to annoy people very frustrating as it used up my valuable food. Another observation is I bet shark fishers etc. are raking in the gee-pees! As these are now hard to come by even on the GE! This cant be a bad thing, rite? The only thing that did disappoint me was the drop system; I killed a guy with a granite maul and some rune and lost about 10 rune arrows and a few sharkys and all I got in return was a Mithril scimitar When with me I had my Guthix staff, 40 rune arrows, 40k worth of runes, red dragon hide and 2 rune scimitars to try and get my total cost up, so I was defiantly over the 75k minimum. I know I didnt lose much but when your level 47 with no non combat skills its a lot. Anyway the question is, what effect do you think this PvP update will have on our (what I saw as) slipping economy, do you think it will drag it back to something what it was like in the days of old, or do you think it will send us into a credit crunch?!
  24. heres a sneaky peak at my bounty hunter/pker in the making hes combat 47 currently, started making him about 2 months ago, just started uni so progress has slowed dramatically, but yeh any advice would be nice! aiming for 60 strength then 70 range then 65-70strength at the moment. as you can see i will bh/pk f2p as i wont be able to afford members to long, that £3.50 is atleast 1 maybe 2 double vodka redbulls! I made myself members just for training really, make my money by selling the herbs i get, pretty good quick cash, like 1k a minute... not to bad for low leve no skills! The outfit is what i wear for training, i will wear whats on the top bank tab for bh/pking, green drag hide and mages robes i expect, unless i dont mage then i will wear iron insted! So yes please rate and advise away!! (best to open in a new window) cheers for the help1 better go to bed got a lecture in 7 hours!!
  25. hey all, just started playing on my old dueler and im thinking of making him into a bounty huner. anyway he has 40 attack and 48 strength 1 defence and 60 hitpoints and is combat 47. i need a place to train my strength! any ideas?!? he is members! a nice money maker would also be nice, but it doesnt have to be.
