Should i get my atck, str, and defense to 40 and just melee him?

Hey there, Ive been reading around and most guides show people killing the dragon using melee, is it viable to kill him using magic? I have lvl53 magic, lvl 43 hits, and lvl30 defense, Do you think i can take him using magic atacks?
