  3. Vimeena's Slayer Diary...And Rants (NOTE: Still working on layout colour etc.) Hi everyone. Fairly new to this blogging thing but I've decided I wanted to do one. And by now your already thinking...oh great another list of tasks, drops and what not. But wrong they are boring once you have seen one sceenshot of a whip next to a little pile of ashes you've seen them all. Thats not to say there won't be sceenshots but I'm going to be a bit more selective and give them a backstory. So what is this blog about. Well I want it to be a diary of sorts. Where I will add to it regularly. Pretty much whenever i have something to say or show. This could be ten times a day or only once in a week depends whats happening. I'll also keep the usual log just for a bit of interest. I welcome comments and especially discussion. In the most selfish sense I am doing this to keep me ammused so something to read and reply to is always appreciated. Well the account is called Vimeena. It was started November 2008. Not my first account but for reasons I don't really understand I wanted a fresh start. I'd always been a bit of a skiller in the past so this time I insisted I'd go a different route. Being a goal driven person I set myself two tasks: 99 Magic 85 Slayer So with a shiny level 3 account where do you start... Well I started with melee doing all the usual stuff. Taking a detour to get scimitar and dagger of course. And at this point it dawned on me I don't think I could dare to get too accustomed to a whip then have to go back to strength with a scimitar. For some reason Saradomin Sword hadn't crossed my mind. So I plodded on with scimitar till I got to: 75 Attack 75 Strength 70 Defence From that point on I only trained strength due to my worries of getting too accustomed to a whip. Around this point I started slaying as well. All my pre 85 slaying was done from the lost city. Nooby but easy to do at low levels. My main aims were securing enough money for 68 summoning, 70 prayer and ultimately 99 magic using string jewellery spell from 80. With a few trips to green dragons (or a few hundred...) I got the money got all that done and 99 strength around the same time as I bought the 132k unstrung gold amulets and 264k astrals. What followed was a tedious few weeks but worth it in the long run. With all that done I diversified a little, did some quests and eventually reached 85 slayer. And that brings me to my recent events. I continued slaying with intermittant farming until I had the money for 92 prayer. Buried all those bones and then thats where we are today. I know thats hugely summarised and a bit boring I'll probably rewrite it when I can think of an interesting way to say I planted seeds, I hit things with a sword and I stood in a bank casting spells. Not many pictures to start with so I guess I'll just do the usual and post a picture of my stats at time of writing. Kudos to anyone who can work out what I've done to my stats in this image and what I was doing. [spoiler=Entry Two - 22:09 04/10/2010 - Confusion About Gargoyles] Well I've just finished two Gargoyle tasks with only one task between them. I haven't done many of these tasks before because the need to click the rock hammer every attack just used to anger me. Well with the relatively recent advent of what I call 'auto hammering' I removed them from my blocked task list and gave them another chance. Now to understand my confusion here you have to know I've never had a granite maul drop before. Ever. And in these two tasks I didn't just get one, two or even four drops...I got seven. Now this is more of a question for the readers. How rare is this? To understand the next part of this entry a bit of personal background will help. I've studied maths at university and will be starting to study computer science in a week. As a part of that I have studied statistics which includes expected probabilities and the likes. Also when it comes to religion, faith, the paranormal etc I believe in the purely rational, logical and scientific point of view. Well anyway assuming the experience at gargoyles was a rare occurance I was wondering what other people think of such events. As I see it people usually follow one of these thought processes: a) That was a rare occurance which is just a function of probability. Every kill/task after this has the same probabilities as always. (My point of view) b) That was very lucky, I'm on a lucky streak I'm going to keep getting good drops it's great. c) I got very lucky so now I'm not going to get anything good for a while, I've just had all the luck I was owed. d) Jagex control the drops, some peoples accounts are given a higher 'luck modifier' than others. I definetly belong in group a yet I must be quite pessimistic in nature because sometimes I find myself wandering into group c but never group b. I promptly remind myself I'm being irrational and get a little bit annoyed with myself for starting to think like that...but it still happens again. [spoiler=Entry Three - 11:01 05/10/2010 - Thoughts On Blocked Tasks] Whilst busy hitting hitting some demons with a weapon made from their own limbs I began questioning my choice of blocked tasks again as I do on a regular basis. To remind you my blocked tasks are currently: -Skeletal Wyverns -Kalphites -Steel Dragons -Black Demons Whilst I don't want to and wouldn't do any of these tasks I began to think about whats the most efficient use of slayer points. Lets say theres 8 tasks I won't do. It would make sense to block the tasks that are the most frequent and use points to cancel the ones I don't want to do but don't come up very often. So if anyone has any ideas on which of these are rare and which are fairly common it could save me some slayer points. Besides the above four I also would never do: -Iron Dragons -Living Rock Creatures -Greater Demons (can't explain why I hate this task) -Bloodvelds These next ones I do but don't really enjoy: -TzHaar Creatures -Fire Giants I'm suddenly quite aware of how picky I am. I guess that just proves I need super antifires so I can happilly do iron and steel dragons. Blogs need pictures right? So ermm..struggling here. Oh well you'll have to put up with a picture of what I wear for gargoyles, abyssal demons and hell hounds. And I suppose greater demons if I did them. Still working on getting Bandos back after my binge to 92 prayer. A few more gargoyle tasks right? [spoiler=Entry Four - 12:23 07/10/2010 - Prayer vs Strength] For the purposes of this discussion lets assume you don't have the money to spend on prayer potions for the whole of a slayer task. Well I find myself wondering do I want to buy Bandos' tassets and chest plate. So pros and cons. Pro; strength bonus no degradation costs. Cons; small prayer bonus compared to the alternatives, Verac's and Proselyte. So I want to maximise damage output over time. So what matters is the total of max damage multiplied by time which that is your max damage for. Bandos adds to max damage for the whole duration of the task no restrictions on it. Where as if you wear prayer gear you could have a strength boosting prayer for a duration of the task. Now here is where my confusion begins. If someone has a Saradomin godsword assuming good stats and either Verac's or Proselyte armour it is very easy to keep 5% strength prayer on the whole task switching to 10% or even 15% when your prayer builds up. Without doing my research but please shout at me if I'm wrong..your max hit with 5% prayer is higher than without but wearing Bandos. So I hypothesise that it's a waste of money to buy Bandos unless your planning on using prayer potions. Now having just got 92 prayer and the ancient curses I'm wondering how this argument stands up with the use of Turmoil. Is turmoil efficient with your prayer points for a strength bonus? And if not that starts a whole new discussion, soul split or weaker strength prayers for slayer? [spoiler=Entry Five - 12:40 07/10/2010 - Progress Update - 280k Till 99 Attack - Full Slayer Helmet] So what have I been doing? The answer is not a great deal. I've done two desert stykewyrm tasks and currently doing a jungle one as well. Having spent quite a long period of time selling all drops to make money for 99 magic then 92 prayer and whatever else in between I think its about time I started building up a bit of a bank again. So I'm keeping this: I'm going to put it with the focus sight I got on the first of those desert strykewyrm tasks and eventually get a full slayer helmet. And your going to ignore the fact I wrote that in the future tense and am now jumping to past again...I write as I go: Yesterday I also did a bit of dungeoneering getting the first level in months. Now I'm slaying again I've started a bit of a half hearted effort to get chaotic rapier and maul. Upto 74k tokens at the moment. Beginning to worry about my ancient effigies. I'm upto 7 of them in the bank. No idea what to do with them. Should I get assistance and use them now, or clear out half my bank for my ever increasing number of them. And on a final note my new task is 68 Suqah, useless but quick task. [spoiler=Entry Six - 10:55 09/10/2010 - 99 Attack & Nomad's Requiem] (will upload this entry soon)
