  1. So let me get this straight. You bought a soldering iron to light cigarettes with, but you don't have any cigarettes to light? Then why buy the soldering iron in the first place?

  2. my soldering iron (which I use to smoke)

    Wait, what?

    What?

What's wrong with a lighter? Why would you use a soldering iron to smoke?

    -no refills necessary

-less cost over time due to the above

    -no butane inhalation

    -no butane taste

    -can be used for soldering

-could be used to vaporize rather than combust

Did I mention no butane taste?

  3. Post your favorite words. I'm very curious to see if favorite words are highly individual or go across many people.

Mine is probably egad. It's just so hilarious to hear/see people use it. I remember a post on the Faith/Religion thread by someone and it went something like:

"to stop possible male and female fraternization (egads!)"

So, what's your favorite word and why?

  4. So my grillfriend and I are fooling around when all of a sudden she stops and says, "You know, you could do better than me."

I sputtered out something like, "But I don't want anything better...because I don't think there is."

Good save? It really caught me off guard.

You shouldn't fool around while cooking with a grill. You could burn yourself.

    What?

Who are you? And by that I mean which OT member are you.

He misspelled girlfriend and I made a joke about it...

    I am Implying.

  5. My dad fixed them :^_^:

Funnily enough, had I not bought my soldering iron (which I use to smoke) it could not have been done.

I have a birthday coming up so it's not like it would have been the end of the world, but now I can get something else

Oh US consumerism. We love you so.

  6. Broke my [bleep]ing headphones. Out 80$.

    [bleep]'s sake.

Why did you buy these expensive headphones?

I didn't know anything about technology. Still, they were very nice while they lasted. Turtle Beach PX21s. I had the P21s before them and they broke too. Never again.

  7. So for those of you who are anti-piracy, what do you think about this situation: Someone wants to buy a 10 year old computer game, but the company that made it went out of business and the only way to buy it now is secondhand. Because the game is still popular, it's value has almost tripled from it's original cost. Is it "ok" to download (pirate?) the game, because the company wouldn't be getting your money anyway? Or should that person spend $80+ to buy the game from some random guy on the internet?

Regarding DRM: What do you think about activation only versus full-blown DRM? (for those of you who are anti-DRM)

Then pirate it. The company doesn't exist anymore, so nobody is getting hurt.

But the vast, vast majority of pirating is done with games/music/movies/whatever from companies that still exist.

  8. Every guru was once a newb, Tim. Don't be embarrassed to ask. I was at the skatepark with a friend a few years ago (must have been 13 at the time). This 30 year-old ex-skater showed up and asked the kids half his age to help him learn to ollie again, and learn to ollie again he did. As long as you're friendly, modest about your present abilities and positive about your development, in whatever you do, people won't refuse to help you.

Speaking of that, how in the [bleep] do you ollie? I tried to learn for hours, but I could never make the board get up off the ground enough. Is it supposed to smack into the ground?

  9. MY SHINS! THEY BURN!

Considering I haven't done any form of exercise/cardio w/e in a year, im trying to build my stamina back up from nothing...and these joggers suck. Maybe I should buy those feet-shoes since I walk around bare foot all the time

Bike or swim instead. Walking/running/jogging hurts the knees.

  10. That's not preying on anything.

"Do you want to buy this rock?"

"That's just a rock from the ground painted red."

"Okay, do you want to buy it? $50."

People are willing to buy his expensive [cabbage]. He is not preying on them, he is selling a perfectly legitimate product without ever being deceptive.

He is preying on the psychology. I don't care, I'm just telling you where he's coming from.

  11. I'd have to agree with rocco here. I may not be a huge fan of Capitalism, but the fact is that Steve Jobs made a product that people liked, charged a price they were willing to pay for it, and the products were all LUXURIES. It's not like he was holding water ransom for $30 a bottle, for things like this, if you dislike the product or the price, you just don't buy it.

Think of it this way. You say he repackaged the MP3 player. Probably true, but in a market driven by competition, people preferred HIS ripoff to the original or any of the other ripoffs and were willing to pay for his over the others. Nothing devious about it, it's exactly how our economy is supposed to work.

Yes, but it is still preying on consumer psychology. He just doesn't agree with that. His opinion.

  12. So people should never just want to feel pleasure? They should, every time they feel the basest instinct, have to create another person?

Can you imagine what that would do to the human population? It would explode. We already have too many people, we don't need to increase our numbers any further.
