There are so many different ways that people say it, they never star all the abbreviations, in the end it would probably be worse, there are alot worse 4 letter words than noob, and if it was starred, the game would seem to have alot more profanity.

The addictiveness of Runescape is because its not like other games, it's non-linear, there's so many skills you can do and no order told in which to do them, you have free choice to do whatever you want in the game and that's what makes it so much fun and so addictive.
