  1. I turn on Michael Bublé and hop on Facebook. Or I light some scented candles and take a shower until the hot water is gone, then get out and spend a ridiculous amount of time meticulously drying my hair. Or make a blanket nest and curl up with a book.

  2. I don't play anymore, but here's a couple of new ones of me so anyone who used to know me can see that my life did continue after Runescape (please replace the indexed ones with the first 2):

    Those dont work.

Looks like I suck at life!

Went back and fixed them. :)

  4. Be careful who you say that ("Oh the test was soooo easy!") to. I had that attitude after taking the written test (got 100% like you) and then found out my friend hadn't passed it -- after dropping the whole "What idiot fails that?" line. So be wary.

But then I failed the practical half the first time. ;)

Now I've been driving for 3 years and it all seems silly. :D

  5. My older sister Liz was in the Scripps Spelling bee... at city level. When she found out she was going to get to participate she started freaking out, terrified she'd win because she knew my family couldn't afford to go with her to DC. ("But what if I WIN???")

She had nothing to worry about, she did last 4 rounds but that was it.

    - - - -

In 5th grade I went to the county Spelling Bee and got 3rd place, and then I got 2nd place in my middle school for qualifiers, but the 1st place person (my good friend Megan), picked someone else to go in her place. Which still annoys me, and I still bring up at least once a year. I wanted a chance to redeem myself for 5th grade's measly 3rd place.

  6. 200 days

200? Seriously? That's like a fourth of school. I'd be kicked out if I missed fifty. o_o

I'd be kicked out for ten.And thats without my current [wagon] streak.

Yeah, I was pretty well scrambling to graduate. I missed about 40 days freshman year (compression fracture in my spine), I think 50 sophomore year, only 30-some junior year (I had a law class I LOVED and couldn't miss), and then over 70 my senior year.

I got a "standard" (aka loser) 22-credit diploma (had 25.75 credits) and I think academic diplomas were 28 credits to get. 31 for honors (which my twin sister, our Valedictorian, got).

Got a 32 on the ACT anyways, and a 5 on my AP Language & Comp test which annoyed my teacher for that class (where I got a D one semester and failed the other) to no end. :)

What's lame is I wasn't even "skipping school" to do something fun or cool. I was generally at home, asleep (a good way to temporarily escape the world, which was my goal, plus I was always exhausted [failure anti-depressants]).

  7. In fourth grade I laughed when this girl sneezed really really loudly near me. My teacher took me out into the hallway to tell me how mean that was and how I could have hurt the girl's feelings. (Oh, and the girl was a good friend of mine.)

And then about 10 days before graduating from high school, I had been called down to the Vice Principal's office to get some graduation requirement forms finished up. I didn't want to be missing class and I'd been sitting outside his office for over a half-hour when I asked the secretary if she thought he'd be able to see me soon. She told me to go poke my head in and find out. His office door was wide open, so I peered into the room. He was leaning back with his feet propped up, laughing and talking to someone's mom who had come in. He looked up at me (and the girl who had followed me who was also leaning into the doorframe a bit) and said, "Yeah?" and I said "We've been waiting for a while and wondered if you'd be able to see us soon?" He smiled and said "In a minute."

The other girl and I went back into the hallway to wait, and a few minutes later Mr. W came out. He pointed right at me, said, "You!" and brought me into his office. Then he shut the door and started yelling at me about how incredibly rude I was, did I think the school revolved around me? and here someone's distressed mother had needed to talk to him, and me being the incredibly rude, selfish person I was had shamed him, myself, and the entire school with my behavior.

I started crying and he got even angrier at me for crying about it then pulled the "You do want to graduate, don't you? Because I don't have to help you with these forms!" so I cried more. The whole office and the adjacent offices and everyone in the hallway could hear the whole thing.

That's about it. I did miss about 200 days of school in high school, due to depression and a back injury, which got me a few trips to see my counselor, but that really wasn't "getting caught" doing anything. I never had detention, though. Well, one time in Kindergarten I didn't push my chair in on my way out to recess, so I was supposed to stay in at the next recess and practice pushing it in or something, but I slipped out the door and it never came up again. (I still feel a bit guilty about that). I know my "worst thing at school" is a bit off the ordinary mark, but I was a pretty good kid.

  8. Funny story... I suggested Bunny Ears for the 2002 Easter Drop in an e-mail to Jagex shortly after the Christmas Cracker drop. Lo and behold, Easter rolled around and suddenly there were bunny ears dotting the map. And then at a find-me game I was hosting shortly after, someone who was a friend of Mod Mark got him to teleport to my side to find out where I was hiding (cheating by all accounts!) and when I asked him about the bunny ears (more specifically, was it my input that brought them about) he said something along the lines of "That was a great idea Topazjewel!" (Note - I've been told many times by friends and acquaintances, 'No pic, no proof.' But that leads to my point...)

We will be running community events, tournaments and JMod participation in-game to provide more support to you and make RuneScape an even better place to be.

That seems like a pretty innocuous statement to me. But apparently it's caused a lot of frustration and unwarranted grumbling for some members of this community.

I think it should be flattering to TET members to see ideas that they've put into play being emulated through the official events that may be hosted. Yes, it's nice to be recognized for what you've done, but I think your personal knowledge of your contribution should be enough.

While the TET did put on many good events for the Tip.it community, I think the fact that Jagex wants to host some for the entire Runescape community is an excellent idea. Remember, Jagex was holding events for players since the early days. Halloween 2001, pumpkins were not just distributed through a mass drop like the following holiday items, they were dropped/given away at a Jagex-hosted Halloween Party in Falador Park. (Back when Runescape was much smaller and such a thing was possible without significant overcrowding and utter chaos).

Furthermore, Many of the events that the TET hold utilize Mini-games that are a part of Runescape anyway. And back to this whole "stealing ideas" (let's just say, borrowing?) concept, the Find-me has been around much longer than TET (as I sort of pointed out in my little self-anecdote), as have item finds and running around burning things. (Not to say there haven't been a few really unique and well-done events by the TET, but most of it really is basic ideas compiled together and then minigames).

And after all, nothing is stopping you from continuing to host Tip.it-exclusive events. You'll still get a good turnout (provided public opinion hasn't turned against you after reading all the whining -- sorry -- expressing of opinions so far displayed on this thread). And if it's all for fun, what does it matter anyway?

    ____

As for "The Future of Runescape"; I'm waiting to see what changes really do happen under Mark Gerhard's leadership. I think it was really nice of him to introduce himself like that, but at the same time I suspect if he hadn't gone into the gaming field, he would have done well in politics. And don't we all just love our politicians?

  9. thats a gatherer not a skiller

and i know the way it works i was playing on RSC when the world was PK but that means nothign to me since i would never ever log onto a pk world

i was just saying that the whole concept of PK is some1 a lot higher lvl killing a low level to make themselves feel good (i dont know how)

PK and PvP are 2 different things

With the really old PK system (pre-wildy), it wasn't PK worlds at all, so you obviously weren't there. There was a toggle option which I believe you could do three times then be stuck forever as a pker/nonpker (until the wildy came out).

And the "whole concept" of PKing has never been about "feeling good" for killing someone that's a much lower level than you. Not really. It's about the items you gain from who you kill, regardless of their level. Or killing someone that's well known.

Back on topic... the article was okay, except that I too believe that the price changes are brought on more by end of the summer (kids going back to school) than by anticipation of the update. I don't know how many people seriously go out and stock up on potions, but then I was never hugely into the pk crowd.

And I have no clue what was meant by the pressure being on the skillers to produce enough items to meet demand... when you're making money, where's the pressure? That seemed like a way to try to make it sound dismal all around, but really if you're the one getting the fish or potions to sell there's no pressure at all. You make money, you win. Yay.

  10. It's sad to me that everyone here thinks they are too cool to / would destory their reputation by wearing a Runescape shirt. Maybe that tells you something about the company you keep. All false pretenses, hmm? I'm glad that I have friends in real life who don't care or judge me for playing a MMORPG sometimes.

I would buy a RS shirt if they came in womens/fitted sizes. The logo wouldn't matter to me but wearing a potato sack would.

  11. Well, my term of service is done. Aside from the day I started this topic, I only got called in one other day (today). Sent home early both days, as the two parties in each case decided to settle at the last minute.

It looks like my law experience will be limited to junior year's mock trial. (Where I was Lead Council for the defense [head lawyer] and got my guilty defendant acquitted by my foolish classmates -- ha!)

I can always go and sit in on a trial, though. I may do that. :D

No idea what any of the cases I might've faced were about, they don't tell the jurors until jury selection which I never made it to. Yup.

  12. Sounds fun, but I'm also a greedy person and don't like the idea of CoinShare splitting a potentially valuable drop to people who stood around and did nothing. Or hit a 2. But I'm not familiar with how the system works, so maybe I have the wrong idea.

Maybe have a couple of hunts going at once, one for the higher levels (like DK or KQ) and one for the lower levels (like the Mole or KBD)?

  13. I'm not doing War of Souls...I've not finished the trilogy...Anyway,I do know its not allowed

Not much progress on mine yet though, trying to make it historically correct...(Its not a fanfic if its about real people, right?)

    Right.

You're lucky to know what you're going to do. It looks like I'll be writing 30,000 words in 5 days at this rate.

  14. Sorry. I'm not sure what War of Souls is, but as long as it's not a fan fiction, it's fine.

I mean as in being a diary.Like Anne Frank's or something...

    Go for it.

Googled War of Souls, and it looks like a book... Dragonlance: The War of Souls. Apparently some shootoff of Dungeons & Dragons.

    So that's not allowed.

I wish you'd give a topic or something. X.x I have ideas that need direction.

  15. They cannot watch tv news or read any newspaper.

So If I'm on jury duty (which won't be for a few years) I won't be allowed to watch any tv at all, or read the comics/sports section?

It's not that you're not allowed. But you're supposed to avoid any possible coverage of the case. If you were watching a sports channel or reading the sports/comics, that wouldn't be subjecting you to possible trial coverage. The idea is that you don't let the media bias or, or throw in additional "evidence" that was not submitted in court. And it's only two weeks (here, anyways), and a month in some places. I'm sure you'd be fine. :P

  16. My dad was on jury duty for the month when we had a huge murder case with 3 or 4 people getting murdered. It was one of those family killings where the mother went psycho and killed her family. He still won't talk about it, but I could see that it was really hard on him. They eventually sentenced her to 4 life terms even though she plead insanity. I'm registered for jury duty, and I really hope that I get to do it :)

So the murder happened when he was on the jury, or the trial? Because it's very unlikely that someone would be charged within a month of the incident.

I sat around for 3 hours today and they sent me home. They didn't need any of us, I guess. :D I'm excused for tomorrow and friday, so maybe monday I'll at least have a chance at being on a jury.

  17. Iron Armour actually cannot be lent. There's a list of items, and they didn't put potentially useless items on there. Like cabbage. And iron armour. Item lending is for items that the person may not be able to obtain themselves. Like godswords and party hats and that kind of thing. There's a list of lendable items in the RS KB.

The first item I was lent was a whip. I have one already, but we were testing. Then I lent out a red h'ween mask for 24 hours.

Another point of confusion was whether the item can be taken back at any time. A friend of mine was lent an Armadyl GS but the one who lent it to him logged just as he entered Bandos, and the sword "poofed." When you're lending an item, you can check a box that will make you either receive it back once you log, or guarantee the lendee that they'll be able to keep it for x amount of hours (up to 24). So be careful that if someone lends you something you know the terms.

It annoys me how people will follow another player, begging them to lend them an item. It's so RUDE. If they wanted to lend it, they would. But I don't appreciate running from Lumby to Fally and still being followed by someone wanting to borrow something.

Lending needs work, but if people were smarter about it, then not too much work.

  18. I've looked up Runescape designs on cafepress.com before, just to see what's out there.

    "I eat noobs for breakfast."

"My life is RUNED" (runed is in the rune stones like RuneScape was on the site)

    "[skill] 99 - Jealous Much?"

"'cuz im da mod datz why..."

    "I'm with the n00b --->"

"My friend met Zezima, and all I got was this shirt!" (image of Zezima on RSC)

    and just found this one:

    "noob (nooob):

a very weak player; Moss Giant toe jam"

    "GAMING GODDESS

    You May Bow Before Me"

"Where in the World Are We???" (with a world map image)

Some are cute, and some are just stupid. I don't know if I'd talk to someone if they were wearing a RS shirt, though.

  19. Heh, speaking of Rick Rolls.. Not really a prank.. But hearing it on my friend's car stereo while driving, it was pretty funny. Apparently the DJ (sounded like in his 30's too) had no idea what people percieved Rick Astley as, he announced it in a totally normal voice.

Rick-rolled a few hundred thousand listeners right there.. My friend had no idea why I was laughing either. Guess it's not that known to people that only rarely spend time online. And it's not really that hilarious, but still quite special to find out it's on normal 80's/ 90's playlists too

Was it XM radio by any chance Blue? I heard it on their 80's station while in the car with my mom and sister, they had no idea why I thought it was so funny until I explained it to them.

Could you explain it to me? :(

  20. I'm actually downtown at the county courthouse at this moment on one of 4 supplied computers in the jury assembly room.

I turned 18 last November, and found myself being summoned to jury duty in April (to serve in May). I had to defer because of school, so it was postponed until July, and this is my first day actually here.

I don't have anything exciting to say. There's supposed to be a trial today but if there is (which there won't be, often people settle once they realise they're actually about to go to court as in the jurors [me] are showing up), only 6 people of the 22ish here will be selected. I'm hoping that I'll be somehow unsuitable and be able to go home, and if not then that the trial will only last today (the juror lady said it might be a 2-day trial). Anyways, even if there was a case I couldn't talk about it until after the verdict was reached and it was all over.

So here's my question: Has anyone here ever served on a jury? How old were you? What were the facts of the case, and outcome?

    I'm bored. :D

8 potential days of jury duty left, if I keep getting called in.

Animal Planet is on the TV. Old ladies are crocheting and I don't know how many people have touched this keyboard. Ew.

Share your stories and experiences! I will, if I have anything to share at the end of this ordeal.

  21. This is slightly different but it's sort of the same concept, kind of. In my Geometry class my sophomore year of high school I had this psycho teacher. We just watched movies like Alice in Wonderland and Monty Python and A Beautiful Mind, because they all had logic or math in them. Anyways, my teacher was a bum. But one day we had a discussion:

Suppose there is a distance of twenty feet. You can cross it in 10 steps, or you can go halfway, then half of the remaining distance, and half of that remaining distance, etc, etc. Some kids thought it would be faster to go the half-way way, but then my teacher said you'd never get there. So long as you were only covering half of the remaining distance, while you'd get closer to your destination faster, you'd never actually get there. Because you were always only going halfway. So you could go 10 feet, then 5, 2.5, 1.25, etc, until you were down to teeny decimals. You'd never get there. But then logic says that so long as you're always moving forward you'd get there eventually. But at the same time, if you always were covering half the remaining distance, you wouldn't.

    What do you think?
