  1. Things I couldn't go without in a day...

A daily fix of soccer/football (playing or watching, though preferably playing).

Food and sleep are a given :P.

And my sister and I have some late night talks just about everynight that are basically tradition now.

    Yeah, that's about it.

  2. I unfourtunatly didn't get to watch it... a replays being shown at midnight here though :\.

From what I heard, Terry played fantastic but Ronaldinho, Messi, and Deco were just teasing them at the end of the 2nd half.

PS: Really wish you hadn't put the score in the subject/title line. Some people may have wanted to catch a replay without knowing the score yet (I already knew the score as I was being told everything that was happening through a friend).

  3. Alright so, i'm slightly bored... should be sleeping but I have a few things on my mind and decided to make this in an attempt to get them off for awhile!

I was reading an article somewhere and one of the questions was: What do you feel are your best assests/virtues and worst faults? Just thought i'd ask it to anyone bored or up for answering it.

For me... I don't really have the answer yet but one of my worst faults its being too critical of myself (which can be good and bad) and sometimes diving into things without thinking them through first. Oh, and procrastination lol :P.

Oh, and an edit to say... yeeeeahh Arsenal ;).

  4. I wish I could watch the Premier League over here in America... I haven't followed football in such a long time.

Man United haven't been the same since Cantona left.

EPL is shown a lot over in North America. Infact, more games are shown in the US than in Canada (Fox Sports World Canada doesn't show as many as the American one).

On topic: SO glad to hear Liverpool won. The game was on pay per view here so I didn't watch it... i'll just catch the highlights or a replay of the match :).

  5. I'm definitaly going to be watching it, though think i'll miss some of the opening due to midterms :(.

I'm watching bobsled for sure (there's actually a Jamaican born on the Canadian team), hockey, short track/speed skating... as much as I can get in :).

  6. The cartoon is offensive, yes.

Would you like someone saying everything you been taught to believe since you go to school resumes to violence?

The muslim reaction isn't proper though...

After all, if you think imparcially, you will see the world is full of wrong sides.

    My thoughts exactly apinagez.

You find it offensive? Did you even do any research before you posted that? The muslim religion is pretty strict. And by the way, "killing human"?

And "putting things on fire"? Learn to freaking write! They have every right to burn down embassies! If someone would start a cult that burns all copies of constitutions or declarations of independence or stuff like that wouldn't you be insulted? And by the way... they're not freaking acting like undereducated animals! You're the freaking under-educutated animal!!!

What gives anyone the right to burn down embassies, or anyone elses property, etc.? Violence doesn't prove a thing. In my eyes, it does show that someone is "undereducated".

Are you freaking stupid? If those people should be hunted down, then everyone that believes in something should be freaking hunted down! Everyone is encouraging acts of violence right now! Bush, me, and even you!

Your rights? Your freaking rights are also their rights! And why are you calling them fanatics if you're a fanatic in a way too? You believe that what they're doing is wrong! That makes you just as much of a fanatic as them! And why are you talking about freedom of speech? Wouldn't you want to burn all things related to someone who insults everything you believe in, in one of the worst ways possible? Just freaking think for a second! They have every right to protest!

Tell me... do you believe that what they're doing is right (the violent protests)? Firstly, I do think they're in the right being mad. But I wouldn't protest with violence, whether the person has insulted what I believed in in one of the worst ways possible or not.

Upset? Offended? Angry? I am sorry this might be me but when I get angry or offended by someones comment I tell them, yell at them, go blow of steam or something. The one thing I don't do is go burn buildings and kill people. I was fine with the boycot. The comics would be offending and it was immature for the other countries to publish them. That DOES NOT give them the right to go burn down buildings.

If is just said a very offending Jesus joke right now (which I would not do because I am a Christian too but for the sake of the argument say I did) what would you do. Flame me? Cuss me out? I would bet that you probalby wouldn't try to burn my house down and try to kill my family now would you.

So if someone just insulted Jesus right now I have the right to burn down their house. By what you are saying if someone does or says something insulting then you should try to hurt them as much as possibe. I am sorry but for me insults are not a defense for murder or arson.

The best way to protest the comic is not to prove it right.

Their religion says that that is a sin and that those people are their enemies and have to be killed or something like that... You're totally right, but in your example you used the Christian religion, which is really different from the Muslim religion. From what I know, their religion tells them that they have to burn down buildings and kill people that blaspheme that much. But it's still not their fault, and they're not immature or uneducated or something else.

So i'm confused - their religion tells them they have to burn down buildings and kill people?? I'm sorry, I know quite a few Muslim's and I guess they're going against their religion because they definitaly don't go around burning a building down or killing people because they were insulted (to a high or low degree). I've seen a few been insulted due to their religion and yeah, they get pissed off by it (who wouln't get mad if you were insulted??) but there's a point where you just need to stop at mad instead of going to insane actions.

square 101, I agree very much with what you've said.

I mean come on... this is a bit ridiculous:

Iraqis rallying by the hundreds demanded an apology from the European Union, and the leader of the Palestinian group Hamas called the cartoons "an unforgivable insult" that merited punishment by death.

    :\

  7. Well, it's kind of a relationship between the person (or well, their "individuality"/identity) and the place and how they're interconnected/one. It doesn't matter at all what the area is like. Scenery doesn't really need to express mood. I guess I should've given an example film (i'd use it myself but I know of 4 others using it so don't want to); The Shipping News. Basically, it needs to show a connection between an individuals character traits and their surroundings. I can use different individuals as well so it doesn't need to be just one person. Hmm... I don't know of this will make it more confusing, but another example could be: (if you haven't) imagine you've moved away from your childhood home (a place). What was home to you though? Did you identify it through the people there, the grass, the neighbourhood, etc. - what gave "home" meaning to you? So in saying that, if you were to go there today, it'd probably be very different - could you still call it "home"? I guess that's sort of what i'm trying to get across. A place and how it has meaning to you.

  8. Hey guys,

I have an assignment to do, and basically in it we're suppose to reference a book and/or movie (among various articles). The general idea behind the assignment is a link between how a big change in an area or how an area can affect a person (in simple terms at least :P).

I'm not asking anyone to do my work - I actually quite like writing papers - but i'm asking for ideas on what film I could use for this. I'm having a block on movies right now so, hence the post. Your help's greatly appreciated :).

  9. I watched The Gods Must Be Crazy (1985) last weekend.

Good movie :). Haven't seen that in a few years... might have to rent it again or somethin'!

    On topic...

Just saw Hostel. I'll probably be repeating what others have said but i'm too lazy to check through this entire thread ;). Must say, it's not for the squeamish but it has no plot and is definitaly not what I expected. I was expecting a somewhat good movie and this just didn't live up to the hype i've heard. Basically, it's softcore porn and gore... that's it. I think it's loosely based on true events, which makes it pretty disturbing in that sense and I guess that's the only reason that it may keep you watching till the end. Otherwise it just didn't do it for me.

  10. What possible reason is there to "not like" (all) people who drink? Sure, people who are vomitting/urinating in the street are often unlikeable, but those people are no more a good representation of all people who drink alcohol than a 25 stone person who eats chocolate would be an accurate representation of all chocolate eaters.

    In my opinion:

    - Not drinking doesn't make you "more mature" or "better".

    - Drinking doesn't make you a drunkard, 'yob', 'chav', or whatever else people are thinking of here.

    And conversely:

    - Not drinking doesn't make you boring and lacking of a life.

    - Drinking doesn't make you "cool".

For the record: I drink. I drink because I enjoy it; it relaxes me and improves my mood. That does not mean that I need drink to have fun, nor does it mean I spend my time with my head in a toilet bowl, it just means what I said.

I see nothing wrong with enjoying alcohol in moderation. It's also a personal choice as to what extent people enjoy drinking and not really anyone elses business until it gets to the point where it adversely affects those around them.

Couldn't have said it any better :).

  11. yup like i said im going to state for engineering in 2 years. Most likely though i will get an apartment and not a dorm. (my dads loaded with money). What kinda grades did u get in highschool i get straight a's with the occasional b

my sister might be going to harvard for law school (duh) she's the one who can lie and not get caught, who is the more artsy side and is good in arguing....while im the technical/math person.

Grat's :). One thing I just wanted to say though - don't miss out on the dorm/residence experience. It's awesome and i've never really heard of anyone whos disliked it.

  12. When I was younger, it was all about having fun or whatever - my parents encouraged me to play but they wouldn't be annoyed if I lost. My Dad was pretty big into sports though so it was obvious that they wanted me to do well.

However, as I got more and more involved in my sports, I put work into them because I expect something out of them. I hate losing. I run track and play soccer both at university now and winning IS what matters. It's VERY serious but I like it like that. We also have a ton of fun along the way and throughout the season too. I love my sports and can't imagine anyone who loves there sport a ton that wouldn't care about losing.
