I wasn't going to read the full 14 pages or something of the responses so i'll just say a few things first, the qwerty keyboard was designed to slow people down in the good ol' days of the type writer so it wouldn't die Secondly, how does using 1337 speed up typing, because alot of shorthanders are also *shudder* 13371575 (leetists for those who refuse to read it, me included) finally why don't people teach themselves to touch type? it would certainly help them, for one thing they would be using 8 fingers at least in stead of the usual 2, do what i did and not replace your light, then use your computer later at night, forcing you to learn, or suffer. In general though i agree with this article, you may notice in my typing that i miss alot of capital letters, that's because i'm a word autocorrecter and find it better to leave them out, but one thing that is really creepy for me is that i sometimes type one and sometimes type 1, look at me ramble, i do it alot.
