It was a Jagex staff mod. I was doing some research and came across this article talking about how someone hacked a lot of runescape usernames this past summer: http://www.cyberwarnews.info/2011/07/24/v0id-issues-a-warning-to-all-runescape-users/ Does anyone know if this article is just BS or no? It is interesting for me that this article was posted right in the middle of the period when my account was being accessed by someone else (miid - late July). To me, it seems that if this actually happened, active players would probably not be affected much because they would be able to have their bank PIN hold over while they immediately took care of the situation, inactive players would not care because they wouldnt know, and the few formerly inactive players who may have been affected are getting [bleep]ed because there was also nothing I could do to stop this because I also didnt know, but care because I came back to the game. I know hacks like this are extremely rare, if possible, but it DOES happen from time to time...Right now I am just trying to figure out exactly what happened so I dont make the same mistake in the future for something else.

Thanks for the responses so far...One other thing just crossed my mind. My bank PIN was not set up. I do remember setting up a bank PIN years back, and if I remember correctly, is it not impossible to reset a bank PIN unless you knew what the number was? The number I had was not something I ever type in, so a keylogger or trojan would be impossible. Also, my entire friends list was deleted, and one new person was added: a moderator. I dont know, something tells me a mod may have been involved, is this type of thing ridiculous to even think of? After all, this account was inactive for a very long time and I know mods can mess with account settings...This whole deal seems extremely sketchy to me.

Hello, I used to play RuneScape several years ago. I played from 2003-2005 or so and then again in 2008. I have had member's before and have a lot of general experience with the game. Recently I saw an ad for RuneScape and decided to check out the website. The game seemed new and somewhat interesting, so I decided to log back in and see what had changed. After noticing that my username and password were NOT working, (this is the first time EVER that this has happened to me, for this game or any other game, no matter how long of a break that I have taken), I also noticed that my character was not even appearing in the highscores. I submitted an account recovery request and my account info was reset nearly instantly. Upon finally logging into the game, I notice that my character's name and gender were both changed. There were also 3 messages in my inbox from Jagex detailing billing information for member's subscriptions this past summer, something I did not do, and the fact that my character was logged in less than 2 months ago, when I havent played the game myself in years. New member skills that I have never even heard of were leveled up. The biggest issue I have is that my partyhat is missing. I dont really know who else to turn to, I couldnt find any info on the website that detailed about what to do in a situation like this. I have an enormous amount of information to prove that this is my account. If anyone could please help me out, post here or send me a message about where I can start or who I can talk to ingame. Is this really supposed to take forever? I got the bronze and then iron ones fairly easy. Like within a couple minutes (50 tokens max). Then i spend a whole half hour (300 tokens, with ring of wealth) and didnt get the steel one at all! And i was getting tons of rare drops like addy maces, black 2hs, etc. but no defender! :x So is rune like impossible to get? Is it even worth it? I was going to get it for training, but this seems like a waste of resources.

thanks guys, that all pretty much makes sense... and just another random question, but is the whip still the most widely used best all around weapon? and is the GE price accurate? because im thinking about buying one, and a set of rune, to start back training up again soon. thanks

Whats the market price for pure essence right now? The grand exchange says its 149 to 165, but i know that can be inaccurate. Ive pretty much been mining it for the past few days to make money, and would this be considered a good way of making money? Is killing green drags still a good way to make money? Back in the day (i just started playing after a three year break) i was making BANK off killing green drags. But are dbones/hides still in demand enough to make a good profit off of that? I mean like what are the prices now. And are there any other really good money-making things to do? I have semi-decent combat skills so anything combat related (ie killing green drags) would not be a problem. Thanks a lot

i knew about the 3k limit but that doesnt apply to grand exchange transactions, right? and whats the best way to sell a rare, i mean it sounds like the prices are set? so does that mean they arent going up in price anymore like they used to? and no more wildy? :( whats up with that?? i was definitely a pker and a combat-oriented player when i quit and i dont really want to change that...

Well i quit RS over three years ago...and just randomly bought members again because i became really, REALLY bored today. i quit because it got boring and i didnt have enough time to play all the time anymore, and recently i visited the website and noticed theres a LOT of new things. ive been mulling over joining rs again for a while, and just decided to do it... anyways so i have a few questions... whats the best way to make money now? all ive been doing is basically fishing lobbies. i basically sold my bank before i quit to buy a purple phat, so all i have in my bank is purple phat, 125k, very few basic runes, some f2p crap, etc... and whats the deal with this grand exchange? is that the best way to sell/buy stuff? (like for the best price, time is not an issue now since i have like no money.) are there any other cool things i need to know about? im basically asking how to restart my new rs career with such limited resources. thanks a lot.

... Verac's set does not negate Prayer as it does armor. For the last time: if you can hit 31 on an individual who is not praying, then you can hit 31 on him or her while they are praying. I have 86 strength at the moment. I can hit 22-23s natural with a Whip. Therefore, when I duel (no prayer, no potions), I have the capability to hit anywhere from 0 to 23. If my opponent starts to pray, I still can hit anywhere from 0-23, only, the fact that he's praying makes it so that I cannot hit on him as often as I could before. The fact that people have hit high while wearing Full Verac only means that they got lucky when their opponent was praying. It does not mean anything else. Protection prayers merely lower the chance of you hitting your opponent. They have no effect whatsoever on the damage that can be inflicted. i still dont really agree with you there...prayer reduces the damage by like 30-40% or something i think, ive NEVER hit anywhere close to my max while the other person had prayer on. but then again i could be wrong...its been a while since ive actually fought someone with protect prayer on long enough to know for sure

Ok. Today i cleaned up my desktop a bit, got rid of unused icons, etc, and decided to get a new theme going. I downloaded and installed a new skin from wincustomize.com and used the WindowsBlinds program thingy and that worked great. But my question is, how do i install and use a new cursor and a new icon package? I have a few .CurXPTheme files (the cursors) and a few .IP files (icon group files) But what do i do with them? I just realized...i think i have a dynamic IP address o.0 I checked it yesterday just to know what it was. Today i see one of those sigs that say "Your IP is blah-blah!" and i noticed that it was different o.0 Then i went to imageshack to check it..."Your IP:blah-blah has been logged." It was the the same one in the sig, but its different from yesterday :shock: I have BellSouth DSL, does anyone know if they change it often? Oh yeah, by the way my question is answered now lol 8)

Or unplug your router overnight, after "X" ammount of hours your ISP usually declares that IP as unused, and will then go about and give it out to someone else. When you reconnect to your router, your ISP will send you a new IP I think i heard that somewhere, thats what i meant with the first thing i said. So to do this doi have to unplug the cord from just my computer? Or from the router? We have a router in our house and all of the computers are hooked up to it and thats where we get our internet from (DSL). I think if i unplugged the router itself then my dad might get a little pissed as he is a businessman on the computer all the time+needs to be on the internet for email and stuff a lot lol...So would this work by unplugging it from just my computer? (Im assuming no, but hey it may work...)

I think i remember a way to change your IP address maybe? Someone said you unplug your internet from your computer for a day or something. I also know some people have dynamic IPs but thats not my question. So is the chord-unplugging technique true? Thanks, I've always wondered about this... :wink: 8)

Ha, never mind, i seem to have fixed it. My virus scanner evidently picked up on something and i think the problem is fixed now... :P

First off, i would just like to say that i have never, EVER had an issue with those random pop-ups, aka "Ad-ware" I would also like to say that somewhere, cant really remember, i heard that Ad-aware IS ad-ware it self. -------------------------------------- Well last week, i decided to give ad-aware a try, even though i had heard that it installs onto your computer the very thing it deletes. I had never really had a problem with ad-ware, i just kind of downloaded it for the heck of it. Well recently, ive had some issues with random popup ads that appear out of nowhere. I get popups from Internet Explorer, and i dont even use it! I use Firefox, yet i still get popups from IE for some reason. To be honest, this hasnt really happened until i downloaded Ad-aware, and im beginning to think that Ad-aware DOES install some sort of spyware or adware on your computer. Now im not saying it does, but it looks pretty obvious. Ive tried running Spybot and Ad-aware (just incase if it doesnt install adware...) and nothing seems to work, i still get them. Im doing a virus scan right now, scanned 35k files so far and only one possible problem, doesnt seem to be it. Ive tried downloading the latest version and updates for IE, even though I dont use it. I used to have ZoneAlarm, but that messed my computer and RS for some reason, making them run very slowly or not at all... Later ill probably post a hi-jack-this log So honestly, i have no idea whats wrong. Like i said before, ive NEVER had a problem with this and I just dont understand why it happened all of a sudden. Any advice? :?

does anyone know of a good, FREE, image hosting server (such as imageshack.us) that can host images up to 3MB ? (yes im serious rofl) imageshack can only host up to 1MB an image, angelfire is good 'cause you can host up to 20MB total except you can't direct link it which stinks, and apparently you cant post an image from freewebs because its banned from tip.it so....does anyone know a good place i can host a large image(s) (other than imageshack, freewebs, or angelfire)??
